Just an FYI. Do some research but the leaves of the sweet potatoes are great for you and are huge in killing cancer cell among many other things. Mix them in your salads and add to other meals. Lots of health benefits. Wife and I are big fans and love watching your family. God bless.

Enjoy your time off, you all deserve it, I’ve only found your channel a few years ago, so I’ll watch some old ones from the start. One of your videos that I really enjoyed was way back, when Megan was talking about taking the kids out of our schools and homeschooling, and, that government was evil 😈 and nuts.well I’m not going to say any more, you know about that. Good talk Megan, I understand why that was the only video on that subject, hopefully you didn’t lose to many subscribers, but if you did , they didn’t deserve to watch you anyway, but I’m sure you gain more mindedness people like yourself. But at that time , that’s when families and friends started falling apart and arguing because of what was happening in this country 🙏❣️

Thats a really hard loss🙏 We really enjoy your field work Andy and explaining what your up to. We plan on putting in our garlic this weekend. It’s that time of year. Harvest and preserving takes so much out of us Megan. It’s so important, but I’m tired! Having our food and knowing where it came from is so worth it,and important to us. We love that you share with us, the kids are learning so many skills!..Rest,enjoy family, take time. Your faithful subscribers..we appreciate you❤

We plant our Garlic on Halloween or the first week of Nov. in northern NJ. We only grow hardneck. One month before planting we add a few inches of chicken manure and compost and turn it in. When it's time to plant we put ours about 4 inches deep. Once they sprout we cover over with a good 4 to 5 inches of shredded leaves. Last year ours where ready to pull mid June and we took the scapes off in May. We grow Siberian and Red Chesnok Garlic.

For the chook house you need to put a tow ball connector on it and have one of ride-ons with tow ball. Easier to move the birds around. Or something similar. We in process of doing same in Australia. Plus trellis for tomatoes are great. They cut down diseases and aerate the plant. Favourite way to grow them.

Hey folks! Nice video. I like your idea about putting tomatoes in those bean beds. Beans provide the nutrients that tomatoes love, so they ought to do well. I try to rotate every year or two my tomatoes and peppers, cukes, and beans. It seems to cut down on the amount of fertilizer/soil amendments as well. I do the beans between my tomatoes/peppers and cukes. The homestead is looking great. You sure are making a nice life for you all.

Love your videos! We cover our newly planted garlic with a fairly thin layer of chicken bedding/muck for the same reasons you mentioned...keeps the weeds down and protects it during the coldest months. I was glad to see your tomato plant(s) climbing a trellis because we've about decided to plant ours along cattle panels next year. We normally plant green beans on one side of trellis and cucumbers on the other, but our cucumbers never do well in our garden (they do better in our raised beds), so we're planning to put the tomatoes next to the trellis. Here's hoping!

Most of the homesteaders I watch grow their tomatoes on a curved trellis or a vertical cattle panel. They are vines, so they will climb like crazy, especially the indeterminants. I love watching y'all work as a family. Such a beautiful team!

I don't know if this will be helpful, (the ground doesn't freeze here) but many years ago I had some (store) garlic that was sprouting in my kitchen. I took it out and just poked the individual cloves in my flower beds here and there. It was just 'greenery' and didn't hurt anything. Then I forgot about it. When that happened again, and I had more garlic trying to sprout, I again just took it out and poked it in the ground. Sometimes a seedhead would pop up (scapes) and I'd pluck it off, and cook it with eggs. I'd pull that head and use it in the kitchen. Sometimes it would be one giant 'clove', and I'd use it like garlic. It tasted the same but milder so I'd use more. I did that for three or four years, and now I haven't bought garlic in a long, long time.

Good morning Lawson family. Sweet taters looks good. Megan next time you boil some of your backbone, when it's done throw you some rice in that stock (pork & rice) bake you some sweet taters, cornbread, stew you some cabbage or a pot of greens (with your chow chow on the side) & you got yourself a meal. Oh add a pot of your green beans or october beans...Yum Yum. Im drinking my morning coffee but getting hungry thinking about that meal 😂

Megan also another way to use your sweet potatoes is to fry them. My granny fixed grits, eggs, bacon or sausage & fried fatback & fried taters for breakfast every morning with either toast or biscuits. When she had sweet potatoes she would fry them for breakfast instead of the Irish potatoes. But fried taters regardless every morning with breakfast & always fried fat back. I miss her & her breakfasts. But it was good. My mama takes left over baked sweet potatoes & pat them out & fry them in bacon grease for a side dish. All this is some good eatin

We plant our green beans near our tomato plants. The beans reach out and wrap themselves up in the tomato plants and hold them up pretty good. We use cattle panels in rows. We found this out by mistake of course but now we know and they don’t seem to bother each other as far as production. And thankfully I’m 4’11” and can shimmy under the “crossover” vines 😂
