Man, I so appreciate this. There are tons of tubers who chase fame and just talk to hear themselves speak. Ideally I want to present the cars I love with information and images that is worth seeing/ hearing. Thanks so much for sticking with the channel!!

Very nice, congrats! When it comes to this gen Quattroporte, the later Evoluzione version is the one to get. Built in a new factory, the overall quality is superior and you also get the V8

Brother, I owned a UK right hand drive version. The interior looked like it was made by a shoe cobbler (very English comment) The engine roared and made melodious sounds. I’ll never forgot it.
@TimsEnthusiastGarage2 жыл бұрын
It’s a rare delicacy here in the states, and I enjoy that most of all. The cobbler is an excellent analogy! I am looking forward to getting to know it. My boys and I talked about importing one “someday” and so it’s fun just to see it parked in the drive. Cheers and thanks for watching.

Drove a Shamal about a decade ago in the Toronto area, and loved it! It was quieter than I expected, and not really fast; but the looks just make up for so much of its deficiencies!
@TimsEnthusiastGarage10 ай бұрын
Not fast but has turbo lag and a locked rear diff which makes it enjoyable. I have spent more time in that specific car. It, like the Alfa SZ probably aren’t worth what they currently trade for but both are compelling designs

I've also been a big fan of this era and these Masers since they were first released upon us in the 80's. I think I still like the biTurbo's looks the best, perhaps cuz they were the first impression, but their proportions were just spot on. I'd love a biTurbo Spyder personally, but the Shamal is also a real looker. You QP4 is also a very quirky but pleasing car to the eye.

How do you feel about the Ghibli or Ghibli cup? Essentially a “perfected” biturbo . Thanks for watching !!
@travkatz2 жыл бұрын
@@TimsEnthusiastGarage Yes they seem great too. But I don't have any experience with them outside of videos. The Biturbo I got to interact with in the flesh, rode in a couple, back when they were new. I don't have any frame of reference to compare one to another.
@travkatz2 жыл бұрын
I revisited car porn of the biturbo spyder just now, re-familiarizing myself with its proportions at some length. It's been over 20 years since I've done that. At first glance, they look wrong proportionally. But then what I love about them comes back to me. They are so stubby, and also business-like in a cute way. My dream has been for some time to "fix" one, to sort one out with some modern tech and learning from what Maser did wrong with them upon release. That would be a dream. Buy a car that is in need of restoration. Not a basket case, but one that needs to be gone through, resto-mod it. That would be a real dream.

I've always liked the rugged looks of these cars and in 2022 they just standout (in a good way) all the more. Looks like you acquired a good example for a reasonable price that needs some TLC but isn't a basket case. Looking forward to seeing more on what you'll do with her. Congrats.

Well said! It’s interesting, there are several cars I haven’t liked at launch and then 15 years later it looks so fresh. Time has certainly helped this design. Thanks for watching

@sandyallsopp67782 жыл бұрын
I have owned the 350hp, V8 version of this QP4 in the UK for about 15 years. I reckon it is one of the best driving saloon cars of all time. Light, very powerful, lots of low down torque, perfect smooth power delivery, very exact steering round the lanes. It handles like a true lightweight, thoroughbred, sports car. Over 90 mph the shape pushes it down so it steers even more accurately. Top speed is over 170 mph and yet it does 25 miles to the gallon. And it takes 5 people in real comfort. Mine has done 125,000 miles and seems as as good as ever, so they are tough because I drive fast. Even today, there is hardly a car in the world to touch its all round capability. I also have a Audi A7, and just sold a Maserati Grancabrio and both are slow and cumbersome in comparison because they are too heavy.

Great to hear you are properly enjoying it! Is yours manual or automatic?
@reality92 жыл бұрын
@@TimsEnthusiastGarage Auto. I just leave it in auto for cruising, or for maybe eating a sandwich. If I want to drive fast I click it into the correct gear limit for the conditions. 2nd for the lanes and urban, 3rd for 'A' roads, and 4th for motorways. No unexpected gear changes in the middle of a corner so you can hold the line, but it will change down automatically when you stop for a junction and then up again to your gear limit when you pull away, which is very fast and saves a lot of clutch pedal hassle compared to a traditional manual. I love that way of driving. The turbo torque does the rest. This is what is so nice about having only 4 auto gears and a decent engine.

Looking forward to your next update on the quattroporte. I have a 3.2 1999 QP purchased over the summer. Adjustable dampers are not working so keen to see what you do with the suspension.
@TimsEnthusiastGarage Жыл бұрын
Yeah that is currently a big question mark. The stock non adjustable suspension is pretty terrible when pushed, particularly at the front under heavy compression. There is a company that makes simple coil overs but for what you get they are ridiculously over priced and not as adjustable as I’d like. I spoke to a local fabricator and have discussed making something but need to sort out spring rates . Keen to find an Evo and have not ruled out eventually bringing in one of those. I do actually like the auto and turbo combo on the highway as it makes sweet progress. Suspension is currently the big question
@sandyallsopp6778 Жыл бұрын
I had the dampers refurbished on my QP4 V8 at about 100,000 miles because they are hard to find new. We did not bother to keep the adjustability because the difference between hard and soft had been minimal anyway. So we just set the shocks to medium and it is fine.

I love this generation of Maseratis. I have a Maserati 3200 GT manual in the UK - has a tuned version of the Shamal’s twin turbo V8, so last of the bi turbo period, but crosses over to when Fiat put Maserati under Ferrari management. Love the mid-range torque and LED boomerang shaped lights. Love Shamals, but v expensive now.

My friend has a shamal and has a 4200 that he welded up and made a boomerang rear light car … which I am envious of. I have a 4200 as well and am looking for the right Ghibli cup. One day! Cheers! Thanks for watching and sharing your passion

Back in the 90's I was driving a Ghibli GT as a daily driver. The GT was a final run out of the Ghibli built after Ferrari had taken control of Maserati. The 3200 GT was not quite ready for production so they produced a small run of 250 Ghibli GT's which had a couple of new components and were much better put together. I also had a Karif and a Ghibli Cup as weekend cars. The Karif was by far the fastest and was actually far too quick for the chassis and suspension. I eventually modified it with adjustable coilers and 4 pot calibers on the front which sorted out the issues. The Ghibli Cup was a little disappointing and really no better then the Ghibli GT. It did have a very nice metal gearnob though. I was fortunate enough to take both the Ghibli Cup and the Karif around the Nurburgring on several occasions and as long as it didn't rain they were great. In the wet they were horrifying.

Według mnie to najgłupszy samochód jaki widziałem.
