I was born one week after Freddie Mercury in 1946 and first heard Bohemian Rhapsody in 1975 when it was released. Today it is still as fresh as the day I first heard it. Rest in peace Freddie. Happy birthday!! Freddie was a freakin' genius!! The recording of “Bohemian Rhapsody” took three weeks and featured 180 overdubs of vocals and instruments. Since the studios of the time only offered 24-track analogue tape, it was necessary for the three to overdub themselves many times and "bounce" these down to successive sub-mixes. In the end, eighth-generation tapes were used. May recalled placing a tape in front of the light and being able to see through it, as the tape had been used so many times.
