You should check out Inside The Rhapsody, a mini doc on yt. It's in 3 parts, 1st Brian and Roger talk about how it came about and the reaction to it. 2nd Roger talks about the video and how it was made, and 3rd, Brian takes you through the master tape and how the tracks were laid down for it. It is fascinating stuff, well worth watching.

It’s never too late for Queen ... their music is timeless! Freddie Mercury wrote this masterpiece!! Tons of over-dubs & the photo is based on Marlene Dietrich’s famous photo (Freddie loved Marlene). Queen’s studio work is genius but their live performances are something to behold!! All Queenies watching will ask you to react to SOMEBODY TO LOVE live in Montreal 1981. It’s required viewing I’m afraid. Do the live version of Boh Rap in Montreal, too! Good reaction! Do you plan to do more Queen?

@@JeffreyHackReacts “Fat bottomed girls” from that same concert is also a must. Their live versions are almost always better than the studio version. My personal favorite live song is “A Kind of Magic” at Wembley in 1986. Written by Roger Taylor for the film Highlander, but Freddie made it more radio friendly. The best song to hear Freddie’s vocal chops is “Just One Year of Love”, lyric version, written by John Deacon, also for Highlander. JMHO

I was a teenager when this was first released and the scene in Wayne's World wasn't too far off from reality. Everybody I knew loved this song, sang along, and anticipated the rock section. Looking back though, I don't remember any of us trying to interpret the music or wondering why he killed a man. ;-) We just went with it. There is something very satisfying about singing the word MAMAAAAAA! the way Freddie does. Can't explain it. Fun reaction! If you're taking Queen requests - one of my favs is White Queen 1975 Live at the Hammersmith Odeon. Nobody has yet explained how four musicians on a small stage can sound that unreal. It's flat out amazing.

That part with the 4 of them in black is a recreation of thier "Queen II" album cover. When performing this live the band used the "Operatic section" from this video as it was impossible to do live. I've watched a video of Brian talking how they overdubbed and multi tracked that part, it was done so much he said they almost wore out the tape. And, yes, back in the '70s the way we dressed was a bit different from today, over in England it was WAY different. Been listening to this song since 1975 and about 30 years after it came out while driving with my daughter and this played she did start headbanging.

This is such an iconic song and each part of the rhapsody brings a new and different energy to it. Every band member is spot on and showcased even in the subtle moments. Brian May just was awarded the title of best Rock guitar solo a couple of weeks ago by Total Guitar Magazine for his solo in this song. This song is perfection. Great reaction, thank you. Queen made this video in less than 2 days and for very little money. It was the first music video for promotion ever made. They set the scene for music videos. I keep my Night At The Opera CD in my car at all times. I have been listening to this song since Queen dropped it in the US. It was all the buzz with everyone at that time.

The only way I can describe Freddie Mercury and his talent....just like Tiger is to golf, Michael Jordan to basketball, Dale Earnhardt to NASCAR, the list goes on but some people are born with this special talent, sure they practice it, sure they grow with it, and they become better and better, until they reach the pinnacle of their career and that inherit talent is fully realized. They are all out of the box thinkers, to a certain extent risk takers, pushing the edge always. And if you notice, every single one I listed were HARD workers. They were serious, they were driven and they put everything they had into it. For Freddie, that voice, his style, his showmanship, his music writing abilities, his piano playing abilities AND yes, his band mates because as awesome as Freddie was it took all four of them to produce this music to sound this way. That is what Freddie Mercury is to music, insane, inherit talent, fine tuned through the years, until he was/is an absolute legend. All from a man who was shy, quiet, reserved when not on stage. Put that all together it is nothing short of amazing. ❤️

It’s all Freddy at the beginning accapella part. Genius on his part to put the others in there to make the harmonies sound like they were better than they were. The others sang on the other parts of the song. Freddy only had 16 tracks back then. He layered the sound. But, after he put so many of the parts together he couldn’t change or add effects once recorded. Where you said it was the best part of the song at the head banging rock part you mentioned the guitar you loved. At that part there were 5 guitars layered on top of each other. Freddy layered not only the voices but the instruments too. On the end of the rocky part where Freddy is belting the rocky part and he says to die. There were two notes on die side by side. It was a disonate.

Queen arranged their own film crew, who usually did sports. The Music people were not happy because they had a “deal” with one particular person for filming. Videos back then were not very creative. This video inspired other bands to be creative and Wueens video helped give birth to MTV. Queen wanted a good quality video to promote their song on TV because they were going on tour, and they always strive for the best. Also, because they multitracked their voices on the song, they could not replicate that choir of voices in a live performance. So onstage they always sing at the beginning, then leave the stage to let the track play the multitracked “Rock Opera” section, and return live for the Rock portion and ending.
