Brimsley says the Queen is "trapped in time" because she is the only one to still dress in the old style. She does this for George for him to recognize her as they age.
@chaidie70563 ай бұрын
which is interesting considering the real queen Charlotte sticked to "old fashion", and even had her court wear old fashion. The fashion they use in the Bridgerton series is actually contemporary French fashion (the British court wore pretty outdated stuff because of Charlotte).
@MeyaRoseGirl3 ай бұрын
I, of course, was curious as to why the princesses never married in history, so I looked it up. It turns out that George's sister had a very unhappy marriage she was forced into, and in his addled mind, it terrified him that his daughters would be similarly mistreated, so he forbade it. The ones who did marry married after he was declared insane and the Regency put in place, so they were too old to bear children. I find that really interesting because in that time most fathers didn't really care about their daughters and just treated them as property to be sold off. (That's how the law regarded women, at least.) It's touching that he loved his daughters enough to want to protect them from pain, but he went too far with it, so it still had the same result of women's lives being decided by the men around them. But I think there is some truth to what Brimsley is saying, that the Royal Family was so focused on George and his condition that the children were largely neglected by their mother, but spoiled by their status, which explains why the princes fathered literally dozens of illegitimate children, but only managed to produce the future Queen Victoria between the lot of them.
@nataliedunn52393 ай бұрын
And then Victoria made up for it by having many children of her own and marrying most of them off to various European royal families. But then Victoria also kept her youngest daughters around her after Albert died because she did not want to be alone. And remained in mourning for the rest of her life. So there is a bit of a repeating cycle there. 🤔
@Cab17262 ай бұрын
Who knows what the actual TRUTH truth is, but I have read/heard in multiple places that George was considered a very good man and earnest and capable king when he was having his good days.

To be honest, I love the Queen Charlotte spinoff more than the 3 Bridgerton seasons
@lorettabes45532 ай бұрын
Interesting, what do you like about it? As I hold the opposite opinion.
@tonialston19682 ай бұрын
@lorettabes4553 I love the chemistry with the actors that play Charlotte and George. I love it in the spicy scenes and even when she helps with his episodes. I think their love is shown in a variety of ways. Not too many side plots and most loose ends are tied. Plus, the last scene under the bed gets my heart each time. What probably helps is that they knew it was a limited series, so plots weren't trying to get dragged as much. The exact storyline wasn't adapted directly from a current book like other seasons, so they probably had more liberty than usual. To me, the 3rd season is disappointing. I don't see the chemistry, and it still seems like Penelope was still the one trying to prove herself to Colin. Most of their arc relied on Lady Whistledown to me. Francesca looked to get more of the romance aspect in her arc. Also, I'm not a fan of friends to lovers. 2nd season, I think they had better chemistry, but I felt bad for Kate's sister a lot, and like in season 3, the pacing wasn't the best. 1st season bugged me because it was a little too much innocent girl meets bad boy.

@@tonialston1968 With Queen Charlotte: I liked the actors performances, but I wasn't sold on Charlotte's love for George. It felt to me like she was crushing on him, but then after that moment we didn't get to see them 'hang out' or grow their love. It was just about George's poor suffering. So I didn't really understand *when* she fell for him? Whenever she speaks of love in the future I can tell it's there. (Mind you I binged the series and it was a whiiiile ago, but this was my opinion after I watched it). That last scene I found really sweet, I wish we got to see more of current Charlotte in love because her acting is amongst the best in the series. There is still a lot about the season I liked, and I think it's close to number 2 if I were to rank all the seasons. I loved seeing lady Danbury's story and Violet. I don't know if I approve of Queen Charlotte's parenting style in the present, but it fits her character too. If a certain problematic thing didn't happen in Season 1, it would not have been my least favourite season, but it is. And yes, Lady Whistledown is the one thing that made it very difficult to write s3 well. But I do like that season a lot... though I still have no exact idea who the hell Colin wants to be. My order would be season 1, 3, Charlotte, 2. I understand feeling mortified for Edwina (me too girl!!), but man Anthony and Kate did great. And they were still shining on in the season afterwards, which made me realise that we're missing out on Simon's actor leaving the show. Thanks for sharing your opinion with me (and reading all this). On my next watch through I'll try to focus on the show and actors more. :D

Aaron gets all the heartfelt moments. One thing this show does so well is connecting the three older ladies, how they have loved and how they have grown, over the course of time. And honestly the dark humor of Lady Danbury faking her surprise at her husband's death alwas=ys gets me as well. Can't wait to see what you guys make of the next one! (missed Eric in this one but these three did well on their own)

The actors and creators of the show never came out and explained George's specific condition but there was multiple theories about him and most are guessing bipolar disorder and maybe some sort of dementia.

I think he was born with a mental illness but his mom later talks about being abused so I think his grandfather abuse made it worse.

The movie The Madness of King George made it seem like a blood disorder, but mental illness seems more reasonable.
@kairosvt30002 ай бұрын
@@AmyL._orcgirl yes originally historians thought it was a blood disorder or liver disorder but recently the biggest theory is bipolar disorder with psychosis during manic episodes (which is common) and then dementia/alzheimer's later on in life. but as everyone says, it's not like anyone can exactly diagnose without talking to a person face to face.

Violet's home is the Ledger home, not the Bridgerton home. Violet wouldn't have lived in the Bridgerton home until she married Edmund. So, the rooms (or sets) make look similar, but they are not the same house.

Honestly, even some of Lady Ledger’s qualities are reminiscent of the Bridgerton children.

With all the horrible luck Lady Danbury had early in life, she was so so fortunate (and fortunately brave and opportunistic early enough to secure her place) that Lord Danbury died at the exact time that he did and not a day sooner. She would never have been named a Lady if he had died before the royal wedding, and the Experiment was exponentially more secure after she publicly held that ball, in his house, with the royals in attendance, and the nobility making gestures to accept the social changes.

I know this was made a month ago but i think so many miss the significance of the king and queen showing up to lady Danbury's first ball of the season. She host the first ball of every season in bridgerton from then on meaning she sets the tone for the season for the entire ton. Its a sign of her power and Charlotte handed it to her from the very beginning

20:37, about dealing with someone experiencing a psychotic episode: psychosis forms in two ways, delusions or hallucinations and often people experience both at the same time. you don't have to have any disorder to experience psychosis as well, some people just have breaking points of stress or overwhelming and it can be a one off thing etc. but how to help someone experiencing an episode is similar to what you guys mentioned, you defintely shouldn't reality check someone (aka the whole "that's not real, it's not really happening, you're fine") because you can't really deny someone's reality that they feel is true. if someone started telling you the sky is green instead of blue over and over, you'd be confused and distressed too, because what an indivudal knows to be true is something that's cemented in us etc. the only time you should reality check a person is if they directly tell you to when they're not experiencing an episode, some people will tell you "hey, if i ever have an episode i actually do want you to do that because it can help me personally" but you shouldn't outside of that because you could never know how a person will handle it and it will just cause more distress. the other method you guys mentioned is affirming the delusion, this can defintely be helpful for dementia/alzheimers because delusions are connected to the memory issues and so the second they calm down they will often forget they even wanted to do that thing in the first place. however, reaffirming delusions outside of that can be harmful and isn't really recommended by professionals because reaffirming may cause more harm to the individual or others. for example, if someone has a delusion that they can fly and you try to affirm it to get them to calm down, they might try to go through with that delusion and hurt themselves. for most people with psychosis, what's recommended is to not deny or affirm their psychosis but rather to simply affirm their feelings. i've helped my friends going through episodes with simple language like "yeah that sounds extremely scary, i'm sorry you're experiencing that, would you like to go inside so we can try to do something else?" (due to many delusions being persecutory), so i definitely think you're right in that redirecting the situation can help (but it also can depend on the person). showing that you have empathy for their situation and feelings and not denying what they feel is real is something that helps largely in the long run. the most important thing is the just have cognitive empathy, i hope this helps someone out there!
@kairosvt30002 ай бұрын
there's also some things that people who experience psychosis can do to help with episodes as well! there's a method called double bookkeeping, which is something that the individual has to work on consistently. it's basically where you understand you're in reality B while others are in reality A, and sometimes you may also be in reality A. you have both realities on your shelf and reality B is real to you, but you know it isn't real to those in reality A. you don't really go "it's not real" you just accept that your experience of reality is different and oftentimes untrue to those in reality A. that way you can acknowledge your feelings and what you're perceiving while also trying to understand that it's not real, even if it really really feels that way. here a quote of an example written by a psych professional: "one of our patients from an open ward claimed that the hospital was surrounded by CIA agents only waiting to kill him. nonetheless, he went to buy an ice cream apparently undisturbed in a kiosk outside the hospital."

With dementia care we call it gentle deception go with the delusion of the person to keep them calm because when u go against it it causes further confusion and agitation so it's best to make them believe that u believe them and then redirect once they calm down some
