I do believe she knew her time was coming to an end and chose to die in Scotland. She was concerned it would be a bit of a logistical burden, but it wasn't really. Scotland can take pride in the fact that she was the nation where The Queen (not a queen, The Queen) chose to pass away after a long, long life. I support an independent Scotland, but am still proud that we were the first to pay her tribute and see her to her rest.

My Scots friend who has emigrated to Australia thought the Scots were personally committed to Her Majesty and would keep her their Queen even if they created their own dominion (and, with the consent of HM, their own Realm). He was not nearly so positive about HM King Charles... he's not a Scot and HRH Prince William is majority English. Of all the Kings of England and the United Kingdom, the last one to be a majority English was Henry VIII's teenage son, and he never ruled.... he was under 18, and so he had a Regent... and he died before reaching his 18th birthday. His father had also had to wait to rule, but he reached his 18th birthday in robust health. Other monarchs were English queens, Scots, or foreigners like William (born Willem, the Stadtholder of Amsterdam) or the current line starting with HM King George I.

You know what I like most about this clip? The emotional pause when the Queen unprecedentedly confides in Pipes after "there are days when I wake up and it all feels a bit-..." It could've been just a dull and boring dramatic silence where we would simply bask in Imelda Staunton's powerful acting, but instead, we were lucky enough to be graced with a sound effect by the channel asking us to subscribe and click on the notification bell icon. Now THAT'S what a channel dedicated to cinema should do, I don't think there's a greater show of respect for the art.

I cannot get over the casual way in which HM addresses him as "Pipes." I cannot find a source for it, but I am willing to bet that this is a nickname common among military personnel in Great Britain & Scotland, similar to "Sparks" for a naval radioman, or "Boats" for a Bosun's Mate. The reason it's significant - at least to me - is that, if this is so, HM here is addressing him, however momentarily, as the former Sergeant Windsor, soldier to soldier, rather than as Her Majesty the Queen. Which I find eminently fitting and appropriate, a momentary connection between people from very different stations in life. HM was a class act all her life. I miss her greatly.

@@Gfawkes77 Oh yes, sir, I understand. But whereas one might expect HM to use his name or rank, she casually says "Pipes," exactly like another soldier would address their First Sergeant as "Top." She never tried to hide it. Her home in Scotland was her favourite residence she could walk around outside the grounds in the village and no one bothered her.
