Months of work turned into almost two years of construction, and costs spiraled out of control. The Galaskas ended up nearly 40% over budget.

It's a shame that healthcare is held for ransom in a "free" country. The depths of depravity people are willing to go to for money is disgusting.

No, the town doesn't "feel" for them. The tax, even on builders, is just a greedy money grab.

I've never heard of that tax before. It's ALL about revenue. Of course, thanks to the present administration, anyone in the midst of a building project has been hit with a 40% increase. A few months ago, I bought a 4'x 4'x 3/8" piece of plywood, and with tax, it was almost $50.00. Lord, I pray you would send your mercies and grace to these dear people who have lost so much already. I can't imagine going through what they have endured. Yet, because of the insane, selfish drivers in the valley, one day, this could be anyone of us.😪

But this house was built years ago, long before lumber increases. The accident was more than 9 years ago and is no longer alive. Did you happen to notice the photos of the house? It's a luxury home. 40% over budget happens when owners keep adding stuff, expensive stuff. A luxury home is not needed just for disability access. And these people made a profit on the sale of the house and the tax is on that amount. So they had the money to pay the tax. Should people not have to pay taxes if they have a sad story? This is about a couple wanting a luxury and living beyond their means and now not wanting to pay. May they want to set up a GoFund to use their sad story to get money. A lot of people are doing that these days.

Shame on the US that people have to sell their home , go bankrupt , end up homeless , go without medication ,choose between rent or medical care or medicine , have to fund raise for medication , medical care , surgery etc all because there is no universal health care . smdh

@@shari9721 Yep I'm with you on that!! I actually had to sell my house and move into an rv because costs were killing me!! I made just enough to pay off mortgage and a credit card, buy the rv and prepare for the storms brewing. I am thankful for what I was able to accomplish!! So many good people didn't have a good outcome!! Our government is killing the American dream, reset isn't what people think it's going to be!! Praying for our country 🙏

@@shari9721 I hate to get in the way of your fantasy world but the reality is this house was started about 6 years after the accident. Very likely they were getting social security disability, insurance payouts, and other money. They then decided to build a luxury home using money that was suppose to go to the care of their son. A new luxury home is not required to have accessibility. There are many disabled people living in AZ in very modest homes. But the luxury house wasn't enough so they started add more expense going 40% over budget. Building took 2 years because of all the upgrades that kept getting added. The young man unfortunately passed away and all that money coming in for their son stopped and they could no longer continue to fund the house so had to sell it. They made a large profit on the house. The tax is 4.5% the gross income. The dude says the tax is "north of $50k". That would mean the house sold for more than $1.1 million....for an unfinished house. They're using their son's sad story as an excuse for living way beyond their means or just not wanting to pay their taxes.

Sad story. Sorry for their troubles. But gee we can see photos of the house. That's a very, very expensive home. This is house is NOT just to provide access for a disabled son. This about parents wanting a luxury home and not being able to pay for it. Living way beyond their means like many people. Using their son's disability as an excuse seems crappy to me.

You're an idiot. Maybe one day your kids become disabled and see how you try to accommodate your child or children who need around the clock care, to be able to maneuver around the house. What would you do for them? Probably just abandon them

What this says to the wealthy who would be considering building is if you've got money, we're putting the screws to you. And you thought we lived in a mostly conservative state.🤣The Californians are coming, and the state wants part of the action.
@MrWaterbugdesign2 жыл бұрын
You seem to be confused. Conservatives believe people should pay their way. Which is why there's a tax on building spec homes. It covers the costs of inspections and the building department. This is how AZ has always been run. When I built in CA the inspector's primary focus was correct building methods. Here in AZ it's about collecting fees because that how the department gets funding, how inspectors get paychecks. I've had inspectors sign off and never leave their truck. I've had electrical inspectors sign off on plumbing permits (I asked a plumbing question and he told me he was electrical and couldn't answer my plumbing question. Yup, it's cheaper to build in AZ and you get what you pay for.

Im torn on this. This couple n their sons suffered a horrible tragedy. But they maybe should have done more research?

It is a sad story. This was a luxury house build and had absolutely nothing to do with their son's disability. Existing homes are changed for accessibility. Even if a new home was built it doesn't have to be a high end home. This story was actually about a couple wanting a luxury house, living beyond their means. They made a profit on the sell of the unfinished house, the tax is on the profit. So they had the money to pay the tax but decided they didn't want to. Expect a GoFundMe to pay for their next luxury home. This is the new reality. People feeling entitled.
