Queen Creek family warning others after oven shatters

A Queen Creek mom says her Frigidaire oven shattered while she and her kids were cooking dinner.

Oven door contain tempered glass. If the tempered glass is put in wrong, it will bust. I work for a company that manufactured stoves. I have seen tempered glass burst in the door because the quality of the glass was inferior. Glass that burst because it was not aligned properly with the metal door. If the tempered glass is put in backwards, it does not reflect the heat back into the oven allowing the glass to break from the heat. Clearly, if the product has failures such as this, they are the responsibility of the company that produces the stoves

Yup bet way a company will listen is hit them where it hurts and that’s their pockets. Vote with your dollar don’t buy their products. Either they will change their designs or they will go bankrupt

What about their fridges? A woman here in Ont. Canada had her door blow off her fridge, totalling half her kitchen. It was a Frigidaire.

Cosmetic? I'd get a lawyer. The company is lame in it's response. Betcha sales plummet. Or should. Funny (not really) that they use safety glass that shatters into "safe" pieces. Like they somehow know it's an issue. They could have offered a new oven or her money back as a good will gesture. lesson learned? Don't buy a Frigidaire..

I bought a Frigidaire oven two years ago and just hate the beast. This gives me another reason to do so. I won't renew the warranty if they won't honor it. (A friend of mine had a little toaster oven in the dorm back in the 70's. She had just looked at the oven to check on her food and looked away just in time to avoid exploding glass hitting her face from her little oven.)

Thanks so much for bringing this to light ... good information to be aware of. The company shoud've not only replaced your stove but recalled all of the same model. It'll take a death for anything to happen ... just like installing street lights at intersections. Grrrr!

The problem being that most companies outsource to China now. Where as in the past, you could have confidence in the products that were made here in the US. I bought my son in law some pyrex pie dishes for making pies, I opened them as soon as I received them, only to notice bubbles, and what can only describe as waves in the glass itself. I thought that could be dangerous, so I sent them back and bought a different brand. Please pay attention to the brand name.... Pyrex is made in Sweden, pyrex is made in China.

We had the same problem here in South Africa, but had lousy service from the manufacturers after the incidents - yes, the replaced oven door glass exploded too!

How is something cosmetic if it renders the oven impossible to use? You can't use an oven that doesn't have a door.

This happened to me a few years ago and the oven was still usable because the interior glass didn't shatter but the exterior did.

This happened to my convection oven about a month ago. I started to open the door and it exploded. Thankfully I wasn't burned, but I am still finding glass.

Wonder if there is more to this. Years ago my husband covered the bottom shelf with aluminum foil. And somehow the change of air temperature change made the window break. It did say not to do that in the manual.

the interesting thing about my oven is that theirs glass in my oven door, but their's also a steel piece with tiny holes in it, in front of the glass. why is it this way? you can't see in, so why is the glass there?

This brand of oven is not good! When we bought our house, the back of this brand of oven had somethings coming out of it in the back. Like the pink soft material was coming out. Don’t know what it’s called. Also the dishwasher by this brand melted Simone’s counter because it got too hot. Don’t get it!

Interesting! Had to replace our GE range a few months ago due to cracks in the over door glass. I had never heard of this happening before.

Thats true we must be hands on on our kitchen ...and check it esp this range top...I had the technician come to my house to see and told me to stop using them it can explode ..

Just don’t do business with Frigidaire. My daughter learned the hard way to look at customer reviews be fore making an appliance purchase. When you are ready to make any kind of major purchase check your customer reviews FIRST.
