My man, if you were listening to the actual true 80 bands or even the bands that started in the 70s, you wouldn't make such an absurd statement which belies the truth.the 80 brought so many non disco,or rock genres,, and I men bands with tunes that did not have a middle 8, or a open closed- open closed high hat. I was done with the country rock, disco, prog crap and dont me started On the industries music of choice. The hippie exec's that made up the music industries elite, were in love with a phenom called Heavy Metal, which in its beginnings were fresh , and new, until Project CLONE Heavy Metal began. Metal became a joke it didnt belong to the younguns anymore. Just a bunch of mid 20 to 30 old men. Then Punk,,New Wave,, Techno, 2 tone, real music from real youth started playing in a scene that was akin to going to a speak easy , word o mouth, youth creating their own music devoid of anything. Sign of Mom and Dads Music. Every thing o. The radio today a terrible remake of of 80s, not 50s 60, or70. grunge ( punk) Emo(punk ,pop) today's metal 80s Thras/ Glam, not 70s style at all. Reas up, or listen, widen your range. I did, and holy shit. Way tooo many great songs and styles not achieved i. These lame passive easy listening years.

@@dantofthegenxfamily9529 Just FYI. Dear Atomic. Dan T. Queen were formed very late 60's, (69) WERE a 70's band, did openly admit to ALL their musical influences, did NOT fit into any one category, DID push the boundaries of music and its mode of presentation (visa vi Bowie) at that time, were UNIQUE, as each individual band member wrote their songs. They were thoroughly trashed by the "elite" and music media at the time for it, but stuck by their beliefs and listened, instead, to the feedback from their tens to hundreds of thousands of fans, eventually, who attended their concerts, throughout the 22 years that they were together. Of course, they were in their 30's in the 80's!! That's not to say that the late 70's and early 80's, more underground, raw, street talking bands like Nirvana, early Coldplay, Jebediah, the Divynals - (I'm from Oz) Smashing Pumpkins (and the list is endless) were not great, groundbreaking, fresh and exciting themselves. (Bar the fact that Sid Vicious was a complete and utter moron.) That's always the way for each younger generation. When the 80's more 'underground' sound became popular, the music business press once again chose to trash Queen and their contemporaries!! However, there's no need to judge anyone else's taste, preference or knowledge of the entire music market and it's changes. Additionally, to say that it made Queen look "frail", is simply untrue. You comparing apples and pears!! Anyhow, the above performance is, after all, from the 70's !!! Perhaps you should do a little more research?! I was a teenager in the 70's and watched all of it unfold over the next 30 years. Very lucky. Very exciting. I got to go to live concerts of everyone from the Monkees (68), Elton John (74), Genesis (89), Wishbone Ash (76), Pink Floyd (75), Omega (76), Iron Maiden (2001), Supertramp (76) and Billy Joel (77) to Queen (85), the Stones (96) and Paul Simon (90). All brilliant, all different. Plus heaps of great "Oz" bands of a mix of genres at local gigs. I feel blessed. I do, very much, agree with you, however, that today's radio music, bar some, just lacks any newness, spirit or much imagination. A real shame !

@@pamf.3290 ok, you named a bunch of pop bands from the nineties, when trying to validate your knowledge of late 70s and 80s. You know nothing of which you speak. Yor knowledge of what Queen openly said is 2nd hand at best. I'm talking about facts, not your opinion I lived through the transition from those decades, I can say with great confidence your knowledge is poor , as you were not as open to listening to any real lare 70, or 80 bands. Back to the shallow side of the pool with you. I was and still playing music in those days and bought records in those days. If you have any knowledge. Please elaborate. In those particular decades, it was very tribal, people dressed exactly like the music they listened too. It's very apparent you listened to everything but alternative, punk, thrash, etc. Forget research you minnie, I lived it.

I also bought and still own plenty of albums from the 50s through to the 80s. You say that the bands that I saw live in the 70s were 90s pop bands?? What? Ok, they were not punk or trash, but does that and our differences in musical opinion and choice give you the right or permission to turn a civil discussion into going out of your way to making it a 'personal' trashing of me?? I had a friend who at the release of the album In Love with my Car was his favorite song. I could tell it was his favorite SONG because at the time he owned an orange 75 Chevy Vega that wasn't anybody's favorite car. It was his 1st new car and his personal finances was a contributing factor. It served his purpose, it was a hatchback that would afford you the room to become horizontal with the companionship of a member of the opposite sex without crawling in the back seat. Of course the hood would suffice if the weather was nice.

The hulking and terrifyingly brilliant DOTL was always going to be a stretch live. A fair amount of studio trickery in there which had to be left out, little shifts in emphasis that were perhaps too subtle to fully engage with in a live situation etc. Glad they gave it a go, though.

90% of Queen's music was crafted in an over the top fashion in the studio. The stacked vocal harmonies, the layered guitars... Impossible to pull off as a four piece... So their live versions had more of a heavy, raw energy to them. I appreciate both the live and studio versions of most of their catalogue.

Never saw a light show to compare with it. The designer wasn't just an artist - the designer was a genius and it was his/her masterpiece. Can't remember if it was News Of the World or Jazz tour.
