Queen is a genre unto themselves. Their studio tracks are going to sound differently than their live performances. Their live performances of a song will be different from concert to concert. They are considered one of the best live stadium bands ever. Here are a few to start out with: Somebody to Love live at Montreal. White Queen live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975. Now I’m Here and Under Pressure live at Wembley 1986.

Freddie was a genius. I My face ballad is One Year of Love. From Highlander. Queen did most of the music for the Highlander movies and the TV show . Worth a watch

Great reaction …. I love how happy and upbeat you are…. it makes me smile 😊 And I’m really happy 🎉 that you are going to take the ‘deep dive’ …..into the fabulous music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s…… you will be amazed. No computers, no auto tune, no AI …….. just raw talent. Thank you so much for your reaction to this Queen song …… next “Somebody to Love” live in Montreal 1981.

Here is some info on the band. I think you will find the men behind the music as fascinating and special as the music itself: BAND: Queen was formed in 1970 by Freddie Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor. After going through a few bass players John Deacon joined them in 1971. They were together until Freddie’s death in 91. Brian and Roger played in the 2000s with Paul Rodgers as lead vocalist and then with Adam Lambert. Freddie, Brian and Roger had solo careers as well. Queen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They were all inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and are the first and I believe only to be inducted as a band. They are the only band where every member has written at least one number 1 hit. From their beginning they did things differently than other bands. They practiced for months and would only perform in front of family and friends instead of playing pubs and bars so that they could get their performance the way they wanted it. They were professional even from the start. They were very involved with all aspects of the business including their lighting, stage look and what they wore. They had the first moving lighting rig (looked like a crown) and other innovative lighting techniques that bands would copy. After they split from their management company they managed themselves and John Deacon oversaw their financials and they would not do anything unless John gave the ok. They were the first rock band to perform at stadiums in South America and behind the Iron Curtain. Freddie Mercury: Lead vocalist, songwriter, composer, record producer and plays piano. He can also play guitar and keyboards. Depending on what you read he had a 3 to 4 octave vocal range and according to a scientific study had a voice unlike any other in rock and roll history in part due to his extremely fast vibrato. He had perfect pitch. He graduated with a diploma in graphic design and designed the band’s logo. He also studied fashion design. He is arguably the best frontman ever in rock. Freddie passed away in 1991. Dr. Sir Brian May: Lead guitarist, backing/lead vocals, songwriter, record producer. He can also play bass, keyboards, piano, harp, synthesizer and banjolele. He was knighted in 2023. Brian has a PhD in Astrophysics and collaborated with NASA on their New Horizons Pluto mission and he has an asteroid named in his honor. He has an IQ of 181. Brian was Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University and is also a leading authority on stereoscopic (3D) photography. When Brian was 16 he and his father made his electric guitar out of items they had around the house. They even made some of the tools they used to make the guitar. The neck of the guitar is hand carved from an 18th century fireplace mantle, the body from an oak table, Mother of pearl buttons were used for the fret markers and the tremolo bar made from bike parts and his mother’s knitting needle. It is called the Red Special and 60 years later it is still Brian’s main guitar. His guitar has a sound like no other. He uses a sixpence as a plectrum and prefers those made before 1957 as they were made a bit differently after that. Roger Taylor: Drummer, backing/lead vocals, songwriter, record producer. He also plays guitar, bass, piano, keyboards and synthesizer. He has a falsetto vocal range which earned him the nickname, the Dog Whistle by his bandmates. I’ve seen some articles that state he has a 5 octave vocal range. He went to school to become a Dentist and got bored with it and got a degree in Biology obtaining a BSc. He has a unique sound playing drums and was chosen as the 8th greatest drummer in classic rock in a listener poll conducted by Planet Rock. John Deacon: Bassist, songwriter, record producer and would oversee the band’s financials. He also played double bass, rhythm guitar, piano, keyboards, drums and synthesizer. He earned a First Class Honours degree in Electronic Engineering (while playing in Queen). He made an amp called the Deacy Amp from a speaker cabinet and parts he found in the trash. He used it for a while and then gave it to Brian to use which enabled Brian’s guitar to sound like different orchestral instruments. Brian hired experts to duplicate it but no one was ever able to make one to sound like Deacon’s amp.
