@Mom Mom The Monarchy generated £1,766 billion pounds for the UK economy in 2017. In contrast, the cost of the British Monarchy is approx' £350 million annually but most of the Monarchy's expenses are not paid for by the taxpayer, but by people who rent land and buildings from the Crown Estate. Travel and security costs are borne by the taxpayer. By comparison, the cost to the American people for the president's staff, travel and security is gargantuan compared to the Royal Family, And those historic sites and castles you mention are historic because in most if not all cases they are inextricably linked to the Monarchy. The Queen has been a global icon for Great Britain for seventy years, it's a bit ingenuous to suggest this has no bearing on people's motives for visiting the UK. And I believe you are wrong to suggest that out of the 40,000,000 tourists that visit the United Kingdom annually there aren't some that secretly, if not naively, hope that they will bump into the Queen during their stay.
@beatermax12 жыл бұрын
@Mom Mom It's clear from your comments that you are not able or perhaps willing to see the worth of living in a constitutional Monarchy but, as you have observed, the vast majority of the British people do and are deeply saddened by the passing of the Queen. They mourn her death because they appreciate her lifetime of service and selfless devotion to duty, they are able to value the constantcy of her role as the figurehead of the country. They feel the loss as acutely as they would a family member because that is how she was regarded. Monarchy is simply not comparable with elected political Heads of State for the very reasons I've outlined. The very nature of an elected fixed term Head of State precludes them from achieving anywhere near the regard with which a Monarch attains during the course their reign. Political leaders and elections, as we know, are often open to corruption, the fight to the top can be brutal and once there they can only really hope to garner the respect and approval of half the electorate at best for the duration of their term. Monarchy will always have its detractors, whether it be out of ignorance or petty jealousy, but it will prevail, just has it has for a thousand years.

As a Pole who doesn't live in the United Kingdom I am shocked that this happened. Queen Elizabeth II is someone that always was kind and nice towards others. May Her Majesty rest in peace. ❤💜💕 Though I do not live in the United Kingdom at all I respect Her Majesty truly. I honestly shed a tear when I heard about this... If she was the United Kingdom Queen, then she is also my Queen. I hope that Queen Elizabeth II is now in better place and lives there happily. Long live Queen! ❤💖 👑💛💕🕊 We will miss you dear..

@@superwomanme Even so, she had seemed to be still in fairy good health. The end came very suddenly when it finally happened. It’s still sad. It’s always sad when a well respected figure passes. I don’t speak as a Royalist per se, but as an admirer of Her Majesty in a singular sense as an experienced stateswoman. I’m in my mid fifties and this is my first day on this earth without her presence. It’s the end of an era. She had 15 Prime Ministers under her ... you just can’t buy that level of experience.

I feel so sad. I admire the Queen a lot. She have been so strong for so many years... Working until 96 age. Kept doing her duty even when so many scandals, dramas happened. People may say whatever but its not easy for a women to do all these with such dedication for so many years. She is the strong and inspiring women for other women. Not some wannabes who gave her heartaches during her last days. Anyway, it's time for her to rest. Rip dear queen

Without doubt the world has changed immensely over her 70 year reign.
