Queen was showing their abilities, their music is so diverse, they were never afraid to be diverse, that's why their fans were and are diverse too, from teenagers all the way to Granny. Great reaction

There's a great documentary about the early days of Queen. It's called Becoming Queen and it's available in KZbin. It's a really great documentary and it will give you a lot more depth and context on their early albums and about the members in general. Also you're get more of that sense of progression after it.

I bought Queen I and Queen II in 1991 and it took me multiple listens to understand what the hell was going on. Even Today something new pops up when i listen to these 2.

Freddie was a big Beach Boys fan (all those complex vocal harmonies are very Beach boys 20/20 & Sunflower era. 'Funny How Love Is' is a wonderful, if not particularly subtle homage to the classic late 60s Beach Boys sound. I love Queen 2. You really do get your moneys worth with those mid 70s Queen albums.

I am part of the cult. I bought it the week it came out and to this day is one of my top albums. My oldest son inherited the love for it, probably because he heard it so much as a child. I love your reviews, but you can't have my original pressing! Great job with your interpretations. You also helped re-introduce me to Kate Bush. The Dreaming was one of my favorite albums of the 80's, but it hasn't been out of its sleeve since then. It was exposed to the light again this week!

I don't think you can replicate Queen, ever. I think that guitar tone (whatever Brian May does, which is what? Reverb? Delay?) makes them unique and great, along of course with Freddie and the other elements. Freddie is also one of a kind. Of course Brian is also an astro-physicist or something, so he's got a big brain. You'll want the high end 180 g vinyl. This music will absolutely grow on you, should you not love it from the start. And it's pure nostalgia for me as I actually saw them in concert. About 100 years ago, 1973.

Great track! in 1972 Queen were asked to try a new studio and the wall of sound, they recorded under the name of Larry Lurex aka Freddie Mercury 2 brilliant cover versions of I Can Hear Music and Going Back! Check them out!

I know when I first got the album it was so much to take in. I played over and over again trying to digest it all. It is one of their best albums for me. I also love Innuendo. That one has a couple of great masterpieces on it. Thanks for doing the album!

This song has always sounded like a mashup of Queen and Yes to me. I like it.

This might unironically be my favorite song in the enitre album and yes I know there are many other great songs in this album but I can't explain why I like this one so much

He was asked to do a track Robin Cable produced. It was produced using the "wall of sound" technique.

I guess this is because of the argreement that whatever goes on the album, it does not get altered by other bandmembers. I remember having read that somewhere. That does give room to different styles in 1 album i suppose...

The way they hide Freddie's vocals in some of these, it's almost like the producers were afraid of Freddie's voice. The man could sing in almost every tone & register anyway. They should have just let him go for it. Wait until he breaks loose in later years!

I gotta say, this song has usually gotten the “skip-track” treatment by many people but this always stays out on as a play through by me. YES,…. I always wondered and not cared for the “behind my head-space vocal treatment” and wished his vocals were as up front as other tunes on this side BUT this song always reminds me of how high a register Freddie delivers here…… and not just a phrase or chorus or 1/2 verse, but his WHOLE vocal part is up there !!! Cool!! Live it.

When CD's first became available in the early 80s, everything new was released digitally. At first, record companies didn't immediately re-release prior analog albums on CD because they weren't sure that people would spend money to replace an album they already owned. The early 80s economy was in a recession. (Am I showing my age here?) Queen's back catalog was finally released by Hollywood records. They were awful. The "remix" left the songs sounding choppy and distorted. I was very disappointed. It was as if they took the songs apart and forgot how to put them back together again, with some sounding like they were missing a few pieces. I saw an interview with Brian May discussing how Queen recorded in the 70s. With only 16 tracks to work with, and the band's style of layered guitar and vocals, sometimes an additional guitar or percussion might be recorded on the same track as the vocal, or some other combination you might not usually see on a recording. I really believe this is why their early albums cannot be remixed digitally to sound anything like the original album. They were experimenting and trying to squeeze as much as they could on a single track. Somehow this doesn't translate on the remastering. Queen has now remastered all of their albums, but even their remaster of Queen II doesn't meet the mix of the original album. It's better than Hollywood records, but still different. You're right. You really need to hear the analog version, and if I were you, I'd try to get a pressing from the 70s. (Amazon is selling a vinyl version of the Hollywood records remaster. Buyer beware. Who knows what they're using to press new copies.) There are vinyl versions of the 1974 pressing of Queen II available on KZbin. You should take a listen. Even though it's compressed from uploading, it's still better sound than any CD version.

This is my least favourite track on the album, but it's fine, I still don't skip it. I agree, calling it a concept album is overstating the case. Anyway, I need to go see what you think of the single (now with words)!

One of my least favorite Queen tracks it sounds more like Beach Boys Meets Yes however Seven Seas Of Rye kicks butt to finish off the album. The next album Sheer Heart Attack if Justin cares to partake is in a different league, to me it is Queens second best album a much cleaner sound as they recorded on 24 track for the first time and it shows, the vocals are much more pronounced and that classic Queen sound makes it's presence known
