Before the drug Ecstacy was available, the word meant “An intense exaltation of mind and feelings, rapture, overpowering emotions of joy and adoration”. Floating around in ecstasy meant he loved life. This was the studio version of the song, they just made the video look like they’re singing live, so Freddie wasn’t really playing the piano one handed. A scientific study was done on the uplifting effects of music and this song was found to be the most effective at making you feel good.
@fryke

It still means that, btw. The drug's just named after that feeling. (You using past tense makes it sound like the real meaning of the word doesn't exist any longer.)

Patrick Armbruster I got the impression that LFR didn’t understand the word except in the context of a drug. When Freddie wrote this song, ecstasy as a drug was not yet developed. Would not be the first time I’ve wondered at people’s lack of understanding of basic vocabulary

Trust me, you won’t be running out of Queen songs anytime soon.😊 And they are all great musicians. Brian May still has that hair except for the fact that it’s white now (he’s 73) and yes he’s way cool. Always get a kick out of the fact that the other 3 are looking like the rock stars they are but the bass player (John Deacon) is wearing a dad sweater. Check out Tie Your Mother Down sometime. You’ll love it!

John was very devoted to Freddie, John lost his father when he was little so Freddie was as a big brother or nearly a father to him. Freddie was 5 years older, that not so much, but enouth for John. Freddie had a very strong personality to, John have said « when I met Freddie I learn to relax, and talk a little. If Freddie dont was where I was I nearly dont say anything at all» the streangest are that Roger in an interview said that John was like a sykopath 🥺 my God, I should like to now why he said that 😳

Queen even created hits after Freddie died, with small clips that he sang individually. At the end of his life, he asked the band to write any lines for him and he would sing them so they could create a song with it after he was gone. He never heard some of the finished products.

You're right about Roger's range,but it was nothing compared to Freddie's. Also,John always swore he couldn't sing,the way Freddie thought he was only a mediocre pianist. The man was a genius that few can follow,either as frontman,pianist and songwriter extraordinaire! All 4 were top selling writers with top hits to thier name. John was the 1 always coming out with surprise hits.

All four members of Queen are University graduates. John Deacon has a degree in Electrical Engineering, drummer Roger Taylor has a degree in Biology and studied to be a Dentist earlier in his life and last but not least, Freddie Mercury had a degree in Graphic Arts Design! No drug ecstasy. It's just about feeling magnificent! I would suggest not trying to analyze every line of lyric until you've listened to the entire song. Brian May still has that gorgeous long hair. He is a genius physicist also. Queen performed without worrying about how they looked or whether they sweated etc. Now it's all so shallow with videos concerned about looks more than talent, in my opinion.

Just an FYI Brian May the guitarist made that guitar from scratch with his dad he called it the 'red special'. This from Wikipedia ( yes I know wiki but it hasn't been edited) - The Red Special is the electric guitar designed and built by Queen's guitarist Brian May and his father, Harold, when Brian was a teenager in the early 1960s.[1][2] The Red Special is sometimes referred to as the Fireplace or the Old Lady by May and by others.[3] The name Red Special came from the reddish-brown colour the guitar attained after being stained and painted with numerous layers of Rustins Plastic Coating.[4] The name Fireplace is a reference to the fact that the wood used to make the neck came from a fireplace mantel.[2] and Brian still plays that guitar today.

Ok sweetpwa-quick Queen rundown. Guitarist-now Dr Sir Brian May,one of a kind guitar-named the red special,was made by Brian and his father out of 200 yr old fireplace mantle,some stiff out of his Mum's sewing box,along with one of her knitting needles comprise guitar. Drummer is Roger Taylor-in Freddie's words,he could get to dog whistle pitch falsetto. He's the 1 doing all the Galleleo bits with Freddie. Then you have John Deacon,possibly the most under rated bass players I know of John was very shy,quiet and reserved and tried to stay out of the spotlight. Freddie took him under his wing as the new kid and as John said,Freddie was the only 1 who could draw him out of his shell. He became John's voice and shield on stage. That's why he refuses to play anymore and lives the life of a recluse.

These "Live" videos weren't new. That was actually the norm before Queen. It's not live, but instead a lip synced performance displayed as a music video. They actually popularised the more theatrical production-type music video in 1975 with Bohemian Rhapsody. Before then, just about every music video was like this; the band or artist performing on stage, sometimes with or without an audience, and playing to the studio recording. The thing about Bohemian Rhapsody was that it wasn't just a few takes of them performing and edited together. It was an entire concept of imagery edited to fit the music and be it's own production. I'd highly recommend watching that video. You did the live version but the video and studio version are MUSTS!

I think this song is about when he came out bout being gay, he didn't have to pretended being somebody he wasn't. He had always covered up about being gay because he had Mary and she was his love of his life, they eventually broke of the engagement and he went mad, and had a wild time with wild sex parties took drugs and and went solo for a time this was the time when news about hiv was becoming known so it might have been about the time he caught aids. He eventually found a man to love and was with him until he died. He left most of his fortune to Mary because he always thought of her as his wife.

Brian May IS cool...an astro-physiicist, actually, but also funny. He played guitar at the 2018 Academy Awards. His hair is now almost white, but he's till flexible and cool.
