John Deacon is one of those underrated bass players, probably because he is 'the quiet one' in the band and that apart from a few early appearances, he couldn't carry on so walked away from Queen after Freddie passed away. He wrote some fantastic songs throughout his career, and his baselines were so good and iconic that others used them in their songs.

I really like this song from Brian May. I like and appreciate both this version as well as the faster version from Live Aid. As usual, Jamel, you pick an amazing song by an amazing band, AND - as usual - you hit the nail right on the head: "Hammer To Fall" _was_ criminally underrated (still is to some degree). This song was the 4th and final single from *The Works* album which featured the humongous hit "Radio Ga-Ga" and the moderate hit "I Want To Break Free." One of Queen's hardest and greatest songs ever, this song only went to #35 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Charts and *didn't even chart in the Billboard Hot 100.* One of many songs about the fear of nuclear war written and recorded between 1980 - 1987, "Hammer To Fall" has 1984 written all over it, right down to Roger Taylor's oversized white "Choose Life" t-shirt. 😅 PLEASE do "Radio Ga-Ga" and their Speed-Metal classic "Stone Cold Crazy" from 1974, which is the fastest and heaviest song Queen ever did. 🤘🏻
