The message of the song , according to the band themselves, was basically Death himself is the Hammer To Fall on you. The line "Rich or Poor or Famous, For Your Truth Is All The Same" was basically saying " we all meet the same fate one day, no matter who you are"

I gotta say that I think he WAS the Greatest!. I honestly can’t think of anyone that holds a candle to what Freddie was capable of from the first sparks of inspiration for a song all the way to belting it out on stage, with that force of a band behind him, they created songs unlike anything that came before em and no one can follow em.

John Deacon is one of those underrated bass players, probably because he is 'the quiet one' in the band and that apart from a few early appearances, he couldn't carry on so walked away from Queen after Freddie passed away. He wrote some fantastic songs throughout his career, and his baselines were so good and iconic that others used them in their songs.

I really like this song from Brian May. I like and appreciate both this version as well as the faster version from Live Aid. Roger is the full blown conductor on this song keeping it pumping on the drums and John is literally killing it on the bass. Brian is rocking through the whole song and his solo is absolute perfection. Freddie growls out this song in a manner that makes me think he is going to shred his throat. In all, this is another excellent Queen composition and performance.

@@MyargonautsJason 1984, ZTT's Paul Morley designed a series of "FRANKIE SAY..." T-shirts to promote the record label's chart act Frankie Goes to Hollywood (FGTH). Morley has stated that these designs were consciously based on Hamnett's slogan T-shirts: "What persuaded me was reading Katharine Hamnett saying she wanted the T-shirts ripped off, which reminded me of Mark P, saying he wanted Sniffin' Glue to be ripped off. And I mean, I did a fanzine, so when I read that I thought, great, fanzine T-shirts!"[1] The official FGTH designs were particularly successful, and spawned many imitations of their own.[2]

Interesting note about is that when there were vinyl and cassettes the album was labeled with side white and side black instead of one and two. The cool thing is that it is reflected in the musical tone of the songs on that side. Highly recommended.

And it's great to hear you appreciate Deaky's work on bass. The quiet one of the group but supremely talented. The notes you read mentioned "Tear It Up"..that's a great one to do if you want all your viewers to be chair dancing (studio version)!💙🌿💚

Thank you for throwing some Queen into the mix!!! 😁They're #3 on my ALL-TIME list of favorite groups!! LOVE Freddie and the guys! P.S... Kudos for doing this one. It didn't get radio play here in the U.S, as well as "Radio Gaga" (the vid for Gaga is a fun one!) but they're such a great tunes! You're KILLING it today (and yesterday) with your reaction picks!!😎😎👌🤘

You picked an awesome and an often overlooked masterpiece here. Thanks for this choice! Another one that is awesome and overlooked is "It's Late" from the News of the World album. My personal favorite is "March of the Black Queen" from Queen II. Keep the good music coming! Thanks for this! Long live Queen!

Last I known Queen didn’t want to be one genre. One thing that made em amazing was that they were really diverse in the music

Hey Jamel 🤗 I don't think you've done Love Of My Life by Queen yet. I've seen it requested a lot in the past(I'm one of them). Totally different vibe & heartwrenchingly beautiful. Hope everyone is having a dandy day ✌️💜

The best concerts I ever saw were Queen in 1978 and 1980 in Detroit. Awesome shows!

As usual, Jamel, you pick an amazing song by an amazing band, AND - as usual - you hit the nail right on the head: "Hammer To Fall" _was_ criminally underrated (still is to some degree). This song was the 4th and final single from *The Works* album which featured the humongous hit "Radio Ga-Ga" and the moderate hit "I Want To Break Free." One of Queen's hardest and greatest songs ever, this song only went to #35 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Charts and *didn't even chart in the Billboard Hot 100.* One of many songs about the fear of nuclear war written and recorded between 1980 - 1987, "Hammer To Fall" has 1984 written all over it, right down to Roger Taylor's oversized white "Choose Life" t-shirt. 😅 PLEASE do "Radio Ga-Ga" and their Speed-Metal classic "Stone Cold Crazy" from 1974, which is the fastest and heaviest song Queen ever did. 🤘🏻
