@sherryheim55044 жыл бұрын
I think they both sound fine. It is live and better than anyone else would/could be doing live these days. Sometimes it is not possible to hear yourselves on stage which was a problem for the QUEEN band at Live Aid but if you watched or listened to that show as it was happening, you didn't hear any major flaws. Nitpickers and haters will always try to tear things apart and spoil the party for everyone else, they are living a very sad life IMHO. Who even knows at this point if both being presented are even being picked up on the same mic or from the same taped recording at the time. Just enjoy the music, I am grateful to still have these available from shows over 40 years ago.

The uploader is not trying to hurt Freddie or Queen's legacy. They are only pointing out the needless editing done on official releases that Queen Productions Limited (QPL) has done. IMO they should just release the concerts with remastered audio/video and without the editing, and I think the uploader shares a similar sentiment.

At risk of being a nit-picker... the original singing is sharp, not flat. My ears told me that watching this - but I sampled the audio and put snippets of each side by side as a direct comparison. In fact both the singing AND the accompanying guitar are sharp in the original which strongly suggests that it's a tape speed / tape stretch error that would be imprinted either on the original or during a subsequent duplication to tape - until that speed variation is finally fixed forever in the digital format.
@darkprose3 жыл бұрын
That doesn’t mean it wasn’t pitch corrected or overdubbed. Are you saying that from start to finish the sound is sharp or just the individual moments in this comparison video are sharp when it says they are flat? Whether sharp or flat, the individual _changes_ are audible. And tape speed or stretch errors account for every instance of overdubbing or pitch correction throughout the range of official releases? That seems really unlikely. Singers and musicians make mistakes live. Of course Queen makes a host of mistakes in the sheer athleticism of their concerts. No big deal. It’s not just tape speed, Sam.
@SamDeeksRelovedGuitars3 жыл бұрын
@@darkprose I just noticed that the singing and instrumentation both seemed sharp and suggested it could be a result of tape stretch / tape playback speed. Have you noticed how so many old classic albums are NOT playable-along-able to? It's because a) they may not have been tuned to pitch to begin with or b) they were tuned to pitch but the sharpness was introduced by tape speed issues. Yes, sometimes all singers hit sharp or flat notes but that usually stands out against the 'in tune' instruments. I only referenced tape speed because I was recording with tape from the 80s on into the digital formats and noted the speed control and tape stretch issues and their effect on tuning over time (and the repeated bouncing-down of tracks in the build up of a piece of music when limited to 4 and 8-track tape recorders....)

Yeah, the real live versions were never meant to be recorded and listened to again in their unadulterated forms. When Queen did release the recordings officially, Freddie helped make overdubs. They sound like they're overdubbed with the original recording. It's a pity they went through and did this. Obviously not at Freddie's request considering he was long gone. The changes are so slight that it doesn't seem to be worth the time and money that must have been spent to do the overdubs.

Freddie recorded overdubs for the Wembley show (and probably montreal), and the 4 of them worked in Live Killers, so Brian wasn't/isn't alone in trying to fix everything they could when it came to live shows.
