Brian May's guitar is a one of a kind hand-built masterpiece that Brian and his father built together when he was a teenager. It is known as the Red Special.

And one of the amps featured here is the 'Deacy', a practice amp John Deacon cobbled together from a sub-1 watt radio circuit board salvaged from a trash dumpster. When pushed with a treble booster, and due to fortuitous circumstances (an early circuit design using germanium transistors that also happened to be mismatched, and somewhat undersized transformers that go into magnetic saturation) it creates those unique bell-like tones.

Freddie Mercury was a gift to humanity. You're quite correct, there will never be another Freddie Mercury, and we are the poorer for his death from HIV/AIDS. Of course, the reason that we're talking about Freddie is in part because Queen was such a killer band (no pun intended) and the songs they crafted stretched the boundaries of rock 'n roll as a genre. The songs could've been done by a mediocre band with a mediocre frontman...and we'd end up with music that most folks would shrug at. But Freddie wasn't mediocre, Queen wasn't mediocre, and the songs were NEVER mediocre. Thank goodness.

@@ErnieDouglas oh God yes! Such a great tune! I was lucky that my folks had some America records collecting dust in the house that I grew up in. My childhood was almost nothing but music from the 60s, 70s, and the 80s came later.

From their best album "Sheer Heart Attack". "Tenement Funster" and "Brighton Rock" are a must listen. But any track is good. Come to think of it, any Queen track is worth listening to.

Classic pure through. Freddy is the frontman of all frontman. But EVERYONE in that band was a genius. Brian May played guitar like we had never heard before making new sounds. Roger on drums was a monster and Deacon on bass was awesome. They all wrote. They all sang. They harmonized like madmen. They were a band on par with the greatest ever. Don't forget that! But yes! Of course Freddy was the greatest singer of the era.

Freddie graduated with a degree in Art and Design - and he and Roger kept a shop in Kensington Market where they sold clothes second hand and redesigned them to be high fashion of the day in the area. He always had an eye for fashion and worked on the look for a lot of their music videos. :)

Fabulous classic! Its been a while! Queen just makes everything better! This song is from their third album, Sheer Heart attack and was what catapulted them into the public eye. The show this video was for "top of the pops" was for all up and coming artists and unfortunately, it was required for the band to mime/lip sync to a playback track. Even the drum symbols were fake. The experience must have been pure torture for them to have to mime and also a major insult to their artistic talent and professional integrity. They actually never played the entire song through when they sang it live, it was always part of a medley. They didn't sing it at live aid, but they sang it live at Montreal 1981, which went into "I'm in love with my car". While his stage presence was very dramatic or theatrical, he never pursued acting, he didn't have the patience for it.

I was like 12-13 when this came out and I thought it was about the same woman Elton John sings about in Bennie and the Jets "She has electric boots, a mohair suit". Don't ask me why I thought that, but I was very confused as to who this strange and wonderful woman was.

A really beautiful song by Queen is called ‘These are the days of our lives’. I think it was written by Roger Taylor, Queen’s drummer. It was one of the songs Freddie sang towards the end of his life. It’s such a beautiful song made all the more poignant because it was towards the end of Freddie’s life.

This is the song that got me hooked on Queen at age 13. I went back and got caught up with Queen I and II, and finished just in time for the release of 'A Night At The Opera'. I really was blessed to have been the age I was with all of this music that people now call 'Classic'.
