And one of the amps featured here is the 'Deacy', a practice amp John Deacon cobbled together from a sub-1 watt radio circuit board salvaged from a trash dumpster. Freddie Mercury was a gift to humanity. You're quite correct, there will never be another Freddie Mercury, and we are the poorer for his death from HIV/AIDS. Of course, the reason that we're talking about Freddie is in part because Queen was such a killer band (no pun intended) and the songs they crafted stretched the boundaries of rock 'n roll as a genre. The songs could've been done by a mediocre band with a mediocre frontman...and we'd end up with music that most folks would shrug at. Fabulous classic! Its been a while! Queen just makes everything better! This song is from their third album, Sheer Heart attack and was what catapulted them into the public eye. The show this video was for "top of the pops" was for all up and coming artists and unfortunately, it was required for the band to mime/lip sync to a playback track. Even the drum symbols were fake. The experience must have been pure torture for them to have to mime and also a major insult to their artistic talent and professional integrity. They actually never played the entire song through when they sang it live, it was always part of a medley. They didn't sing it at live aid, but they sang it live at Montreal 1981, which went into "I'm in love with my car". While his stage presence was very dramatic or theatrical, he never pursued acting, he didn't have the patience for it.

Brian May’s guitar work is always excellent but this one stands out; it is so familiar and instantly recognizable. Love this one.

Some people are great singers but not so great in concert, some people are great performers but not great singers. Freddie was both. He was the consummate showman with the voice of an angel. He never acted. He performed on stage.

*this time* it actually is a song from a movie sound track, written for a version of Flash Gordon. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_Gordon_(soundtrack)

I had the chance to see them live twice and Freddie never disappointed. It started back in 1973, I believe, with their first album and continued on from there.

I first heard this when I was about 11 and I thought I was on acid. I didn’t know what acid was back then.

I was like 12-13 when this came out and I thought it was about the same woman Elton John sings about in Bennie and the Jets "She has electric boots, a mohair suit". Don't ask me why I thought that, but I was very confused as to who this strange and wonderful woman was.

Freddie graduated with a degree in Art and Design - and he and Roger kept a shop in Kensington Market where they sold clothes second hand and redesigned them to be high fashion of the day in the area. He always had an eye for fashion and worked on the look for a lot of their music videos. :)
