I was there and was 16 and am now 55. There was 72,000 of us in the crowd and we didn't know for sure whether Queen were going to appear and when they did we all went crazy as things had started to get a little stale as I'd been there for 6 hours already before they came on. I was then hooked forever. I saw them twice the following year in 1986 one at Wembley (again) and Freddie's ever LAST LIVE performance with Queen at Knebworth. I've been an avid fan ever since. Remember too Viking, Freddie had had Laryngitis and was advised not to perform by his Doctor.. Freddie was born to perform regardless. Freddie the Graphic Artist, designed the face of Roger that features on drum kit.. John electronics, worked on the speakers, Roger studied Biology and of course as you say Sir Brian, does work with NASA too I believe. Bo Rhap is in the British DNA now, I'm sure of it.. have you seen the spontaneous singing of it in Hyde Park, by the crowd waiting for a Green Day Concert to begin...40+ years later and young people knowing every word and note.. love it.

Saw Queen in 1978 in St Louis MO. $7.50 for Floor tickets (there were no seats on the floor back then and no one got hurt) Best concert ever and I got to see lots of people. Freddie's magnetism is indescribable. The repeat portion was far different from Live Aid but we still did whatever he wanted. All of the sound coming from just 4 band members is amazing. I so wish Freddie was still here to perform for all his new fans! 😢😥 Kids now will never know the sound of no backing tracks, no auto-tune, just raw talent putting it all out there. You spoke of Brian's education. Freddie studied design, John engineering and Roger was going to be a dentist. They were all professionals and it showed in their music and performances. I'm just grateful there are all of the videos and interviews that people can discover and relive. Rock on, friend ✌💖😄

By a longshot, they were all awesome, but ofc Freddie was the epitome :P I still get offended to this day when people compare the Beatles to Queen. The Beatles got it easy and got lucky and when there was a nugget of success they all went separate ways. Queen wasn't like that, Freddie always said "hey i can go on my own solo adventures but im sure we will all be on Queen until the day we die I'm sure" And they did, well at least until his death :P

Freddy wasn't completely well that day, under doctor's orders for throat issues not to sing really high so he adjusts lower registers flawlessly. Rock history here, stole the show!

Did you know that his doctor had told him not to perform because of a throat problem. He pushed through,Roger said Freddie was exhausted and hardly had a voice left. He gad to rest up because he and Brian had to be back on stage just before the end to sing is this the world we created.

Queen is my disco time, where you could still rock out every Saturday. We explored the villages on foot, by bike or if you had a moped. Today this is no longer possible for us... Great video! Definitely THE best performance of all time, hands down! 🙌🏻 Fun fact, I'm actually in the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody! 🙂When the first teaser trailer came out, there was a contest called "Put Me In Bohemian" where you would submit a recording of yourself singing the segment of "Bohemian Rhapsody" from the Live Aid show and it would be mixed in with the actual crowd vocals from the original taping. Mine was one of many that were selected, and while there's no official credit, that doesn't matter to me. I'm just glad I got to be a part of movie history. Plus, not everone can say they were a part of an Oscar-winning film, so I'll take it! 🙂

Freddie could be Freddie because the band was so tight. They knew each other’s moves and had that confidence. Roger could tell he needed to go high to harmonize and boost. A truly magical performance based on the freedom of knowing they were capable.

Watch the clapping by the audience during "We Will Rock You". That is *literally* the speed of sound as a wave moving across the crowd. One of the few times it has been captured on film.

Also the concert was twinned with a concert in Philadelphia USA 🇺🇸 92,000 in Philadelphia, auto tune was not around then it came into effect in 1997,I actually attended LiveAid and Queen and Freddie with their legendary flamboyant performance stole the show, Freddie had the crowd in the Palm of his hand, I also attended the end of the Magic tour in 1986 where Queen performed at Knebworth Park in front of around 14,000 people, the concert was Freddie’s very last live performance ever, the backup bands were (Big Country) and ( Status Quo ) fond memories of them amazing performances, great reaction thanks 🙏

I just checked on Spotify - Queen are still ranked as the 44th act in the world for monthly listeners. Literally no other ‘legacy’ act tops them. I’ve been watching the trend over the years - the movie certainly gave them a bump, but they were still in the same position before it came out.

I was born in 1985 😆😆😆 my dad had to miss out in this concert because of my due date. He went to everything, never missed anything. But I was born a month before this concert and he had to miss out and stay in hospital and wait for me. I tell him off for kissing this 😆😆he was also a second cousin to a member of status quo . Got to join them on nights out in London in the late 60s early 70s

I saw a documentary on live aid Talking about queen's performance. Prior prior to queen coming on bob Geldof was really really biting his nails and Freddy because they were not getting the kind of money he felt they should be getting. When Queen came on he was in wherever they were Donations coming in through the roof. I just googled Your comment about him writing it in 15 minutes Because I wanted to know a little bit more about that. Brian may relates that mercury was sitting in the bathtub and he spent 10 minutes writing the song as His way of tributing Elvis. Rami Malek Said in an interview that the live aid scene was the very 1st scene That was shot for the movie. No pressure there at all.

Newly subscribed to ya bro, greetings from across the pond 😊🇬🇧 Couple of fun facts, I guess if you say the words Radio Ga-ga these days people will almost automatically think of the Live Aid performance of it with the ‘call and response’ of 72,000 people, well that all stems from the original music video where the guys are on stage in red and the audience head-to-toe in white. And the fun fact regarding the music video is that the band advertised through press and the then Queen Fan Club for extras, anybody who was free on the relevant dates were invited to be part of the music video, best I know is that all the extras in the official Radio Ga-Ga music video ………… ARE FANS!! 😊🇬🇧🇺🇸

Sorry, just found you; so, I’m late to the Comment Section! I’m a 66 y/o Glamma. You seem to enjoy the background of things. And, I’m a Trivia sponge, so here goes: They had just completed a Tour a month b4. So, they went & rented a Stadium to practice the performance. He ended up with a Throat Infection & the Doctor highly recommended he not do it bc he might lose his musical ability. He said no! Can you tell he had a severe throat infection? Most people think he was drinking booze from the cups bc on the piano. He’s drinking Honey & Tea. His command of the Audience was more than coincidence it was miraculous. Considering there were so many people there the sound was getting absorbed through them. So the people @ the back we’re following his hand gestures bc the actual sound hadn’t even reached them b4 the next sound was coming @ them. Go back & watch what his hands are doing & what the Audience is doing. NEXT: Radio Gaga is celebrating Radio bc M-TV is just getting started. LADY GAGA was a huge Freddie Fam growing up, so That was where she came up with HER STAGE NAME! You have to listen to the words to really understand the meaning. Most of us didn’t have a clue what a Band looked like unless we saw them in Person! NEXT-MICROPHONE. At sometime along the way a Microphone Stand broke, so that was the only spilt second solution they could come up with. He realized the freedom he had to move, dance, & engage the Audience. NEXT MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS CONNECTION on Song THING CALLED LOVE: It was written as his homage to Elvis-Freddie was a big fan. But, he just wasn’t sure about the song bc he didn’t want to taint Elvis. SO, he played it for Michael J. (Yes, they were friends!). And Michael told him he HAD TO, he said “Freddie, you have to”! (Can’t you just see that!?). NEXT FREDDIE’s VOICE. HE HAD 4 extra teeth so that’s the reason he had such an overbite. He had the ability to naturally flow from Octave to Octave. It was a natural progression, for him. SCIENTIFICALLY: Test were done on his Voice. He was able to use his Throat muscles on either side of his vocal cords. Which is normally seen in some Opera Singers. His Vocal Range was from Low Bass F, to High Soprano F! They were extremely surprised to find out that he could go from about 92Hz to 784Hz, effortlessly! See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW: nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since. His ability to blend highs, lows and mid range notes cohesively and with immense precision. This skill was due to the fact that Freddie was able to create faster vibrato and harmonics than any other singer at the time. Not only this, he was able to shift through registers effortlessly. Although he naturally held a baritone voice, he primarily sang as a tenor and of course had no problem then shifting into soprano parts. One study on Freddie’s vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves! LAST FUN FACT: His Lead Guitarist is playing on a Guitar he & his Father made. When he first starting to learn they were too poor to afford a high end guitar. So, they just made one! The included some “extras” that would normally have to be separate instruments to get all those features (think Concerts when you see guitarist changing Guitars depending on the Song….that’s why he didn’t)! I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music, & believe it or not Sports! (When he is waving his arm it is to tell the cameramen which way he is going bc he’s moving around so much. And, “We Will Rock You”, is actually a Prelude to “We Are The Champions”. It is actually all 1 Song!) LEAD GUITARIST: Brian May’s family couldn’t afford a Guitar so he & his Dad made it from an old Cabinet. Because they were making it there are a lot of extra features that he wanted. It is truly a “one of a kind”!

You're actually the first reactor I've seen acknowledge the tiny cracks and a couple of missed notes in Freddie's voice here. They're there, we all know they're there, and it's ignored for a very good reason. Freddie was very sick with a throat infection and was told not to sing. The fact that he did anyway and was so good at it is something that true Queen fans quickly forgive. Most of the places here wouldn't be noticed at all by someone unfamiliar with the band and they were covered nicely.

The cracks are significant if you think about why they are there. But they add humanity, flavour, texture and make it even more "real". I love the fact that they are there because of that. I think some people are afraid to say something that may be perceived as negative. I don't see it that way at all.

I am glad you have been able to see Queen + Adam Lambert, it is a very good show and everyone is so talented. Brian and Roger have never wanted a Freddie replacement, in their hearts there is only one Freddie and he is irreplaceable. It was just luck that they found Adam who can sing all the Queen songs in the key they were written and deliver them well and in his own unique way. Brian and Roger are sticklers for detail so the production of the shows is outstanding and one of the few concerts that is worth the ticket price these days. Queen always rehearses for all their tours or shows and does a soundcheck before every single show even if it is the third show in a row in the same venue as the day before. Freddie didn't have much in the way of piano lessons, if you note his hand position on the keys, particularly his left hand , it is not correct and also, Freddie didn't read music, which is something you definitely learn how to do when you take piano lessons. You are correct, he had no formal vocal training, though Monserrat taught him a lot when they were working together on their Barcelona album. Thank you for your reaction.

I heard a recent interview with Roger Taylor he said that the sound on stage was so awful that they couldnt hear each other. He said it was done on eye contact and memory, isnt that remarkable.

I watched the whole damn thing from mid-day in London right go the end and this set by Freddie & Co was about 6-6.5 hours into the gig and I like many others on the day maybe thought the whole thing was so overhyped and everything before Queen seemed half-assed with the other artists. It’s reported that Bowie (who was slotted next on stage) said “how the duck are you supposed to follow that?!” and Elton John reportedly told Freddie “You bastards stole the fucking show!” Amid rumours that after about 15 years together they were going to split, and a couple of poor albums recently Freddie & Co saw the potential and grasped the opportunity to put themselves ‘back out there’ reminding the potential billion + audience who the daddy was!! Plus, this wasn’t a Queen only crowd yet the band took seriously their responsibility to entertaining the paying customer. Virtually to the day, a year later they were back for two sell-out shows on the back of the A Kind Of Magic Tour in July if ‘86, BM has stated in interviews that they could have sold out WS for A WEEK, such was the demand but the stadium was only available for the two nights. To compensate they ADDED ONE GIG to the tour at Knebworth where they played to 120,000!! The Magic Tour Brian said was the first and only tour where they had made a profit!! If you don’t have it Queen At Wembley ‘86 is available on DVD! 😊🇬🇧🇺🇸

The biggest, highest notes come from Roger who has a great falsetto and I’m no musician/singer just an everyday dude, I don’t know how the hell you can master 2 disciplines and practice both at the same time. Brian is a pretty good vocalist too, not so much John and as was WIDELY reported following this is that Freddie was BELIEVE IT IR NOT only at 80-90% as he was carrying some g to grist infection or fly-like virus and had been told by his physician NOT TO TAKE PART. NOT that you’d ever know from this performance but the guys were so tight and Fred knew he could count on the others to carry it!! 😊

@VikingReacts chill again. It's not audacity. It's a universal fact. It's not even about favorites. There are many musicians who aren't in my favorites that are better than my favorites. It's just a fact. A little thicker skin won't hurt you. Its not an attack on u until u started thinking I criticized u. Enthusiasm is great to have, but it clouds judgements. That's all I said.

My skin is thick enough. But when people tell me what to do I respond. Me not chilling over what I have always loved and love to this day is exactly what I should do in a series called "Vikings Friday Favorites". Math is a objective universal fact. The best band is subjective. It is different for everybody else. This is what I am trying to say. Imagine having a KZbin channel with comments of all sorts of people telling me that I either pause to much, not enough, that I am not a real Viking, that I am a stupid American etc etc. It is a given and I am fine with that but I do also have the right to give those people my opinion. It works both ways. Also: the tone of voice in text doesn't exist so it is hard to judge if it is critique or not. My apologies if the initial response may have been a bit harsh.

Remember watching this on TV fabulous performance by Queen. You could feel the energy thru the screen. Great video.
