You can hear his voice give in a few times, that was extremely unusual for him. I get throat infections frequently, and I can't imagine how much it must've hurt to just keep blasting over it like that. Mindblowing.

When you say "look at the crowd" what you need to realize is that this was being broadcast live all over the world. People all over the planet were literally singing together. I was a young punk at the time and hated popular music but still, me and all my friends watched this performance live and sang every single word with Freddy and the rest of the world. We'll will never see anything like this performance again. So glad that young people are discovering it. I am not an old man crapping on today's artists but every musician today could learn from Queen.

Elton on Freddie: “Backstage at Live Aid, I had a huge area that I kind of decorated. I made sure there were seats for everyone, so that people who were playing could sit down and have a natter. Freddie came over after Queen had stolen the show. I said, “Freddie, nobody should go on after you - you were magnificent.” He said: “You’re absolutely right, darling, we were - we killed them.”” Elton continued, “He was so excited. Then he said, “You, on the other hand, dear - you looked like the fucking Queen Mother when you were on stage. Where did you get that absolutely awful hat?” That was very Freddie. He was hilarious.

@JANICE DUKE ... and he could say that because they were the best of friends. There is a story that Elton tells of Freddie. Freddie passed on 24th Nov 1991. In Dec 1991 a parcel turned up for Elton. Live Aid was a charity concert to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia with several famous acts who volunteered to participate and didn’t get paid. Each act had a 20 minute set. A lot of the other performers played their current songs to promote their albums and didn’t take advantage of the time. Queen took it seriously and spent a week or so putting their playlist together and they had giant clocks in front of them so they could practice and pack as much in as they could in 20 minutes. It also helped that the sound guy worked for Queen and tweaked it so that Queen was louder than everyone else. By the middle of the set, the other acts backstage started to watch them on the monitors and realized that Queen was stealing the show and basically kicked everyone’s ass and they knew it!! Brian May (guitarist) said that they had an advantage because they’d been playing stadiums for years and Freddie knew how to get the crowd involved. Many people say it’s the best live performance. Also, because the stage was pretty basic due to all the different artists, critics didn’t think Queen would pull it off because their shows are typically a huge production with lighting etc. and again Queen shut down the critics proving that they can put on a great show with just the four of them. David Bowie who was a big star back then was the next act in the lineup and was quoted in an interview later saying how was he supposed to follow that. Elton John was quoted as saying 'Freddie, nobody should go on after you - you were magnificent. ' Freddie said: 'You're absolutely right, darling, we were - we killed them.

Watched it live as a teenager. Brian matched Freddie's vocal melody invention amd beauty with his guitar invention and beauty, and also the incredible harmonies he and Roger the drummer sang with Freddie. Also, Brian made his guitar when he was 17, and it's exclusively the one he's played all these decades, his 'sound'.
@johnniekilgore94132 жыл бұрын
It shows how connected he was with the audience. Queen was a last minute addition to lineup of bands. This was not a Queen crowd, Freddy just grabbed the audience and they became a Queen crowd. When they left the stage the next band up were cussing and asking how are we supposed to follow them ? ???. Freddy and Queen were unique. Their music will live forever. Everyone in the band has a degree. Check it out.

Was 14 - it blew my mind on tv, became a lifelong fan there and then and clips like these still give me goosebumps. Seen it so many times, and even a random reaction video like this is worth watching for a few more chills down that spine....

The 27th Nov 1991 was the saddest day in music history and my life, I loved Queen, and Freddy! His music was sensational, his voice the best to ever hear. I'm glad to watch you react to his talent, RIP Freddy you're sorely missed by your fans.

That long note in the "Ay-oh" section was called the "Note heard 'round the world." I just love that. Pianist Spike Edney on "Crazy Little Thing" is still playing with Brian and Roger to this day.

Incredible isn't it? 72,000 fans at Wembley there in London, 90,000 on Satellite in Philadelphia, & 1.8 billion on Satellite around the world. You might be surprised to know how many more Queen songs you are familiar with, grew up with, and didn't know it. So loved your reaction. Keep it going. Love your channel.!!!

Actually, your reaction is pure class. I love how you can’t take your eyes of the video, and your smile says it all. I have watched a lot of reactions to this set, and I still never get bored of it because I love to see younger people enjoying every second of such a world class performance. Thank you.

One of the unique things about Queen, and I really can't think of any other artists that come to mind, but there might be.... They didn't just push their performance out on the fans, it wasn't "one way". They instead, invited their fans "into" their performances, making them feel that they were just as much as part of and invested in the song as the band, making them all for that short time personally involved with one another. If I am not mistaken, Brian and Roger still continue to do so til this day. Freddie, well he just felt every note that came out of every instrument, he disappeared and became the music, it's as if you could see the music leave his body. And you're right, he could run around that stage like a mad man and did most of the time because he had so much energy when the music was playing, but never lost a breath or even got weak. They are all legends, and don't think another band is ever going to match them, in one aspect here or there maybe, but not as a whole, because Queen had it all, all the genres, their love for and interaction with the fans, their presence, performance, ALL of it was nothing less than 110% because they wouldn't accept anything less than that for the fans they loved so much. Also need to add real quick....Roger (drummer) would keep a close eye on Freddie, he was a filler, he could tell when Freddie would get a little tired, and he would bring his voice in to fill it up, this is why you never caught any weakness in vocals "if" there were any. Roger is an amazing singer as is Brian.

I saw Queen with Adam Lambert a couple of years ago. They still have fans involved. It was fantastic!! You absolutely feel a part of the show. Unforgettable night!
@kelleeholmes94482 жыл бұрын
@@adriennevanquill1263 What I respect about Adam is he never came out and tried to be "Freddie" he comes out and does it as "Adam" but in a manner that respects Freddie's work. I do not really like Mark Martel because he is more of a "look at me, I can sound like Freddie" and comes across like he believes he is as good and needs the acknowledgement that he is strong enough to carry Freddie's music. I will say that yes he sounds a bit like Freddie, but a weak one, his vocals will never be as strong and powerful. The only other singer I think could have given Freddie a run for his money in a rock band as far as a powerhouse vocal, would have been Steve Perry from Journey, but Steve could really only sing in Soprano, he didn't have the range and the power like Freddie did in the lower tones.

A beautiful and meaningful reaction to the greatest super group of my time - my Army passing out party rocked to the newly released "We are the Champions" in 1977. Freddie and Queen have never been equalled, and I honesty doubt they ever will be. Thanks for this.

What a great reaction video. Thank you. Freddy was sick that night. There were people who did not want him to perform. He insisted however because it was a benefit concert called Live Aid. Queen did this concert for free. PS. there is a longer version of this concert. Queen also performed Bohemian Rhapsody that night.

A really interesting fact about that show was, that Freddie was sick at that time. he had Aids and he didn´t let anyone show. no one noticed he was sick. only his band knew. He loved what he did, he loved everypart of being able to sing and preform. He was and always will be the most talented Drama Queen. he loved it.

Nope while odds are Freddie had HIV at that time it's unlikely it had progressed to full blown AIDS at that point. Also Freddie himself didn't know at this time wasn't til later that he begin to suspect and even then he got a lot of negative test back as testing was very hit or miss. But yes once he did figure it out the band was on a short list of people who knew as he keep it tight lipped so it wouldn't affect the band in anyway (also why even though he was super duper Bi/Gay he refused to actually admit it in interviews and what not). It's also why I personally have doubts that the day before his death his announcement that he was Gay and had AIDS was his idea or that he gave permission to announce it as he felt doing so would kill the band in the eyes of the public ( not a unfounded fear he had seen plunty of people dragged though the mud and ruined coming out Roc Hudson I think for example) so I think it was someone in his house ( Caretaker or his SO ) who acted on his behalf.

@@duogemstone i have seen a lot of interviews to know, that he was at the time HIV positiv. ( I´m not talking about the film) guess it wasn´t AIDS at that point, yes. but the Band did know, right away.( like u agreed) true he never annouced it, but it was an open secret. The fans knew, that he was bi.
@duogemstone2 жыл бұрын
@@eveheartnet5415 it's not certain if he was its definitely very likely that he had HIV at the time of live aid but he didn't test positive until a few years after live aid. To say that he and the band knew during live aid is just false. He was however sick during live aid but that was with just a throat infection

Liite, I have watched your Live Aid concert reaction many many times and enjoyed it, but i think it's time for you to redownload the entire Queen LIVE AID set and really enjoy the full Queen set from the time they come on stage to the very end. Queen live was and is truly an experience from start to finish. The more you watch it the more you get from it and can understand why Queen fans are the way they are about Queen. It's all about the performance. After all their years together what did they do the week before the Live Aid concert? REHEARSE!! REHEARSE!! REHEARSE!! You commented on why Freddie could so easily transition from one type of song to another and sound so good it was because they rehearsed. Some day when you have time try and catch the Queen concert at Wembley 1986, for your own enjoyment, that will give you a true appreciation of Queen! Queen performed years before Live Aid to much larger audiences in South America. I believe their concert in Rio had something like 300,000 people in attentance. Queen LIVE IS TRULY AN EXPERIENCE!!!
