OMG - I’m so glad that I found your video! I on Cunard for the 100th celebration of the first passenger circumnavigation of the globe in 1923. I thought - “Hey - wouldn’t it be fun to dress 1920s vintage for the evenings. It has kind of taken on a life of its own, but seeing you dressed vintage and KILLING it has given me so much more confidence! Thank you so much!

Glad to see you posted this. I'm going to Europe for the first time for an intensive language program in France...flying there and taking RMS QM2 home.

Hi Geoff & Mandi. Great short video that captured the essence of a Transatlantic crossing on the QM2. We've been fortunate to have done it 4 times now and yes, travelling Westbound is the best, not only for the 5 hours you gain on the ship but mainly for the emotive dawn arrival into NY as you pass the Statue of liberty. Just one suggestion. We travelled once in an inside cabin, the other occasions with a balcony. What I would say is that being 'inside' compounded the effect of motion sickness so I'd rather spend the extra and have a balcony and ability to get fresh air quickly during a winter crossing. You're right though that if you only spend min time in the cabin, why spend more. Taking tablets before sailing as a precaution is better still and we do that now regardless to avoid possible sickness. Love your outfits BTW.

Thank you so much for the note. Good thoughts and tips. I'll have to start taking tablets before leaving next time. We'll be on a vintage crossing with Ahoy Vintage Cruises October 18th, 2022, and Geoff is also doing the one a the end of April 2022 without me. Maybe we'll see you aboard some day!

Hi Geoff & Mandi, Thanks for the video -- my husband and I are booked on the QM2 in 2022 [NYC to Southampton to Norway]. This will be my first ever trip on a ship. I'm super excited. We specifically chose the QM2 because it is a more formal / traditional experience. We both enjoy history, and we both enjoy British history, so what better way... Can't wait!

We hope you have a wonderful time! That will be quite a journey, especially if you get to see the fjords from the ship.

Awesome! I'm 22 and have been obsessed with the history and legacy of ocean liners my whole life. Now that I make my own money the first trip I take will be on the QM2! I'm planning to go from NY->Southampton, stay in Southampton to marvel at it's seafaring history while the ship makes its rounds and catch it for a Southampton->NY return leg. I cannot wait! I do not care if nobody my age lol. If I do find someone my age, they are automatically my new best friend (assuming they are voluntarily there haha.) Plus, I'd love to hear stories and lessons from those my senior. My target date is 2024, where I'll be 24/25. If I'm single then, any tips on how to meet people who also want to get to know people? haha. Also love you two's outfits! I love to dress vintage. This trip will be a grand slam.

That’s great! You should check out the crossings with Ahoy Vintage Cruises. There will be more young people on those.

Thank you for sharing. I will be going in October from NYC to Southampton and wondered how rough the seas were when you sailed. I like your reason for choosing an inside cabin. I too made the same decision to go with an ocean view cabin. I didn’t feel I would get much use on cross Atlantic and I wanted to be out and about. Also I would rather spend the extra money on board.

Were the waves really rough in December?

We had a calm day or two at the beginning and then at the end but it did get a bit rough in the middle. I got sea sick, though Geoff was fine. Once I got the medication from the purser's desk I was fine though. It was so rough that things would fall over but enough to make me queasy. That sea sick medication is amazing! And it's actually really cool to watch the big waves, so it makes it a unique experience.

We have our sailing westbound in May, 2022 for our 50th. I would recommend more than 1 day in London. Great city. Cunard suggested the motor coach from Victoria coach terminal direct to the ship on day of departure. You 2 did a nice video regarding the QM2. Outfits look great. Thanks

I have always said that I would never want to go on a cruise because they just look like big casinos and I don't like that at all! But this looks amazing! I love all things vintage like you guys. I have actually been looking into the Queen Mary 2 because we have to transport my parent's dog from Italy to the US and they are well known for their pet transport and it gives me less anxiety I think than putting her in the cargo area of the plane! Plus this would be more fun for me! So thanks for the video and the info! New subscriber :)

I think you'll absolutely love it! Apparently the kennels get booked really far in advance so keep an eye out for that, they're very popular. We're doing vintage crossings on QM2 with Ahoy Vintage Cruises next year. (They're private parties on the ship with some extra vintage entertainment.) Maybe we'll see you aboard!

Mandi didn't really focus on the QM2's casino or how it compares to other ships. Yes, the QM2 absolutely has a casino area, but compared to other ships, it's stunningly small. The QM2 is built to feature the old-world dance halls and theaters. I think the video highlights very well the major attractions of this ship. (In other words, if it's not in the video, it's probably a very minor aspect of the ship.)

I am planning to take this crossing in 2023. As a single man, would you suggest a dinner seating at 6 pm or 8 pm and why?Additionally, should I request a table for 6, 8, or more. ..I am quite sociable....Thanks !

Hi Steven, have you already booked your voyage? I have a couple of thoughts about it. If you haven't booked yet, you might like to book as part of one of the special events through Ahoy Vintage Cruises. That way, you would have extra opportunity to meet and connect with a wonderful community of people including many single people. Then there would be a great mix of people at your table from the group, which would make it even more social. (The 2023 dates haven't been announced yet but I'm pretty sure Tom already has them on his calendar.) If you're booking on a regular voyage, I think the thing would be to ask if they can seat you at a table with other singles. At that point, it really depends on the mix of people. At lunch we often sit at tables with larger groups of 8 or even 10 (I think that's just a lunch thing) and we often find we are the most friendly and social group at the table. A lot of the couples tend to chat mostly with themselves, which isn't much fun. But if it were all singles that would eliminate that problem. However, because of the size of those large tables, it can be harder to speak with people further away from you and generally I end up conversing mostly with the people directly to either side of me. A table of 6 it would be easier to speak with everyone at the table. So my vote in order would probably be: choice 1 to join a fun private party through Ahoy, choice 2 to request to be at a table of all singles. Hope that helps!

@@sgsmozart Hi, I think there is a Facebook page if you wanted to meet some of the singles/couples. 2 single ladies are planning 2022 or maybe 2023, seeing how the virus situation is. Well vaccinated but I would hate to have to wear a mask all day. Just wanting to be safe.

I disagree with your point on why go on this ship and eat at the buffet. Well, as you also stated people go on these cruises for the SHIP. I don't dance or like formal dinners, so I won't be going to the dining rooms or the gala and will spend my time in the other lounges and buffet or maybe the dance club. But, I've only used cruise ship main dining rooms twice and didn't like any of them as I like to pick and choose what I want to eat and be able to see it right then. I'm taking the roundtrip transatlantic trip so I don't have to fly anywhere but to/from NYC.
