Only when you set the trick. If you miss it you can try it again. The next person can try a trick on the same obstacle. You just can’t set the trick twice in a row on the same obstacle.

It's a bit confusing. But, It only applies to each players obstacle choice not being repeated when they land that obstacle. Not their failed attempt, nor their opponents decision to do their own trick while using the same obstacle.
