Buick made exceptionally good vehicles right up through the later 1950s. They were among the first US makes to adopt overhead valves and coil sprung suspensions at all four corners. They also adopted torque tube drive and used very robust frames by the standards of the day. I love this car.

My dads's 1964 "465" (425 cubes; 465 ft-lb of torque gross 4 barrel V8) Buick Wildcat's engine was factory painted in a color that was nearly identical to this car's, despite the 31 year model year gap. Buick switched to red blocks for the '67 model year. My parents picked up their special order Buick Wildcat 2 door coupe just two months prior to my birth. Hence, the car and I kind of grew up together and I still miss it. My father was friendly with two guys in Adams, MA that ran a private garage and specialized in Buicks. The main owner was the service manager of a Buick garage prior to going private. I spent a fair amount of time as a kid watching Buicks get serviced. Buick offered the best brakes in the American auto industry when they adopted their huge (12") for the time iron lined aluminum front drums that featured large cast in "fins" for additional heat dissipation. Those brakes quickly became the gold standard for American hot rod builders in the late 1950s through mid 1960s. The Buick nailhead V8 was also very popular among the hot rodder crowd from the mid 1950s through the mid 1960s. It's sad that Buick began to lose its way by the later 1960s, though the brand enjoyed more than 50 fantastic years of building automobiles that were oftentimes more sophisticated and every bit as luxurious as Cadillacs, which were allegedly GM's "top of the line" automobiles. Most of this is lost on the general public, including many car enthusiasts.

I finally get to see a Buick the way it should be. I bet that silk interior alone cost more than the rest of the car did when it was new.

Hi DrFruikenstein, Glad this one's "the way it should be" :-) Not sure what the cost was / is for a silk interior, but it feels nice, Lou

A really interesting car ; the Coach built body almost seem to come from an earlier time , and the interior has some lovely touches - I wonder if the flower on the dome light is a Tulip ( Dutch emblem ) ? Some Royals seemed to prefer Buicks , the Duke of Windsor was another .Mel is a lucky man !
