Daniel King you are a very good presenter of chess. I've been subbed for years, and remain a loyal viewer. Even if I watch a Carlsen game on another YT channel, I'll come back to hear your analysis and take on it, which I find valuable and entertaining. What separates you from the other YT chess analysis channels is the fact you can talk about your own experience! I LOVE this! Keep up the amazing work!

The British are sometimes blessed with the absolute best narration voices (we certainly have the best in Attenborough), but I think it would be interesting to get some scallies involved in chess commentary! One advantage of a British commentator is the simplicity and simultaneous clarity with which they are able to express their thoughts in English, which is the primary language of chess commentary at this point. It's a subtle point but nonetheless a significant one. I do love Daniel, great to see him make a comeback 20 years after his fame in the chess world died down.

Very bold sacrifice by Carlsen. I liked Giri's commentary when he explained that the engine evaluation isn't worth much as white needs to find several unique moves to survive. It's amazing to see how Carlsen sometimes calculates precisely until some point and let being led by his intuition other times. Great analysis! Aren't you going to do commentary in this World Cup, Danny?

that's why I love it when people watch games and pass comments based on a number analysis of a position rather than actually looking at the position itself

Tough to know what Bacrot was thinking when he played f4... it's so positionally disastrous that he must have felt there was tactical justification, but if so, he certainly didn't demonstrate it.

As soon as you predicted a Carlsen-Karjakin final yesterday I was tempted to put money on Shankland winning today! Haha. This World Cup has been the best classical event I've followed in a good few years. Surprises at every corner. Incredible drama. And this was another great win from the World Champion!

Seems like the bishops are really dominating this tournament. I think white's bishop on a2 went to visit the Queen in Siberia this game. It is also absolutely beautiful how computer quickly picks up those tactics and just decides to go and dominate that misplaced bishop on a2, really reminds me on Karpov's playstyle or something AlphaZero manages to do so easily.

Both this game and the Shankland Karjakin game where great. What a bishop pair. And what a frustratingly bad spanish bishop. In the other game I was amazed by Shankland's calculation. He said he saw that king and pawn endgame before he took the knight with his bishop. The commentators where still trying to figure it out when he played knight c7 and they had an engine.

At 13.48 black has a nice winning move that Carlsen missed in time trouble - Rd8, with the idea: 36. bxc3 Rd1+ 37. Ke2 Bg4+ 38. Ke3 Rd3+ 39. Ke4 Bf3+ 40. Qxf3 f5+ forcing the king away and winning the queen

On the subject of the Anti-Marshall, 8. a4, Daniil Dubov (of course) played the Marshall anyway in Bjerre v. Dubov, 0-1, Batumi 2019! Simon Williams analyzes in Chess Base Magazine 193.

I sacrificed a queen yesterday, too! There was a forcing sequence of moves after it, as well. The only difference is that my opponent was not a top GM (albeit it was a decent player)😎
@PowerPlayChess3 жыл бұрын
I would hardly describe what happened in this game after the queen sacrifice as a forcing sequence of moves. This was simply superb judgment from Carlsen to appreciate that the position was difficult for White to hold.

As you said GM King, when Magnus goes for the main lines and the so-called "proper openings" it's always scary for the opposition, I've noticed that quite some time ago. I believe he just clocked he never won the World Cup and he is probably upset about it hahaha

I’m personally more likely to view if it doesn’t advertise queen sacrifice in the title. It feels so over used and it’s not like chess is only good because of an attack or queen sacrifice. 😐☹️
