The only instruments and voices in this are the 4 members of Queen with no additional tracks or autotune, just pure talent. That "Ladies voice" is the Drummer Roger Taylor. His range is incredible. Freddie called it the "Dog Whistle" 😅

I had to laugh when you thought there was a choir in the back!! There has always been just the 3 voices (John rarely sang- the bassist). Roger, the drummer, had the high pitch voice. Brian, lead guitar, had the warm middle range voice and Freddie could sing anything. Their 3 voices merged perfectly creating the best harmony in any group. Their live shows were always just them. I never knew a group that actually sounded better live than the studio version. There are 2 songs I really wish you would react to. One is the Bohemian Rhapsody live at Montreal 1981. The next is White Queen live at Hammersmith Oden 1975. They are both fantastic. There are so many lives that are amazing including their history making 1975 performance at Live Aid. There were 60 bands playing at Wembley in London and in the US. It was a fundraiser to help the starving people in Ethiopia Queen stole the show and it is still ranked the number 1 live performance in history. Freddie had a throat infection and was told by his Dr not to perform. He did anyway and regardless of being ill, he sounded great. I’ve been a fan since 1974 and I still love hearing their music.

There is no female "choir". The backup voices are Brian May (Queen's lead guitarist) and Roger Taylor (Queen's drummer). Roger has a four-range vocal span (E2-E6). Freddie compared Roger's voice to a dog whistle. Here is a video of the Montreal 1981 concert. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnilhn2CatqGlcU The Montreal concert was a one-off and not part of a tour. Queen agreed to perform 2 dates in Montreal and allowed a movie crew to film both dates. The movie company wanted to take the best from each night and combine it into a movie version of a Queen concert. They planned to show it in IMAX-type theatres. Unfortunately, the experience was not positive as far as Queen was concerned. The film crew got in the way of Queen and their crew got in the way, especially during Queen's pre-concert run-through that they always did before each concert. The film crew or their cameras, or just their cables got in the way of the band on stage which really annoyed them. The director, Saul Swimmer, was not easy to work with during the actual two nights of filming. He tried to dictate what the band should wear during the concert (we wanted them dressed alike). The director tried to dictate where each member of the band had to stand during the performance and tried to tell them they couldn't move from those spots. This did not go over well, and the band was really irritated so much that they were pissed during the actual performances, which probably explains why so many of the songs are played faster than normal. The Final straw, at least for Freddie, was when the Swimmer went before Queen's audience before they came out to explain about the filming and then, threaten to have any member of the audience removed if they were too loud or got out of the seats during the concert. He dared to mess with QUeen's audience. Queen loved their audience to participate and sing along (they wrote songs just for that purpose like "We Will Rock You" or "In The Lap of The Gods - Revisited). Freddie worked hard on stage to get the audience involved in the performance and he was beyond pissed by the director's instruction. Brian May said he had never seen Freddie so annoyed. In fact, the band banned their manager from their sight for some time because he was the one who had hounded them to allow the movie company to film the concerts and they blamed him. Freddie took his revenge on the second night of the concert. Towards the end of the concert, there was a point that they could change to fresh clothes. In this case, Freddie changed into a pair of booty shorts with no shirt, socks, or shoes. Needless to say, that screwed up the continuity of the movie. The fact that it was filmed on double 35mm film explains why the images are so clean and crisp almost like high def. Yet the band hated the final cut of the film. The whole experience left them with a bad taste in their mouths. It did not come off as looking like a Queen concert because the camera didn't seem to know where to focus. On top of that, Queen did not own the film and had no control over the product. It took them years to finally gain possession of the tape. They had their people remix the concert to produce something more to their liking but unfortunately, the movie company had destroyed any film they didn't use, so they were limited on how far they could restore the film. Material from both nights has been used in the final version. In a number of instances, the footage is a mixture of camera shots from one night and audio recordings from the other night. The Queen-approved version was finally released in 2007.

Later they made a similar concert film of the Budapest concert - it was theirs not like the Montreal one as the Hungarian gov. 'paid them' with it (concert ricket prices were lowered significantly otherwise the ppl could not afford it) - on the practice one of the cameraman asked Freddie to change position / make something again. He shot it down real quick. 😂

Your big smile from the third vocal note said it all. From that point on I knew you were going to love this performance. Thank you for listening to us so that you would have the opportunity to hear and see this outstanding performance. Queen was perfection both live and in studio. Roger and Brian are the only backup singers and that was usually how it was with Queen. The high voice is Roger's (Drums) amazing falsetto which you will hear in many Queen songs. Freddie referred to Roger's high notes as "Dog Whistle Pitch." Another insane live performance both vocally and particularly instrumentally is White Queen live at Odeon 1975. It will blow your hair back. Thank you for a great reaction, I really had fun watching you get to see Freddie, et al at work.

The ONLY voices you hear belong to Freddie, Roger, and Brian. That's it. No choir. No extra back-up singers. And I think you listened to this song in the correct order! First, as you did, the Official Video where you can experience the lush, multi-layered harmonies of Brian, Roger, and Freddie. And also, Freddie's clear, sweet lead vocals. It's just the three of them who form that choir sound. Next up, This Montreal 1981 version! Of course, they can't multi-layer themselves in a LIVE concert, so instead they brilliantly adapt their songs for stage. Performed with great power & energy, (Less choir, more rock), but still enjoys the rich harmonies with Brian, and Roger and Freddie joining (when he gets off the piano and isn't busy doing lead). Roger, the drummer, hits those high harmony vocals. Queen doesn't fail to capture an audience's attention.

The band created beautiful harmonies in the studios, but their live performances were on another level. According to Freddie himself their concerts were not just a rendition of the songs, but theatrical events. They all were masters of their instruments and Freddie had an extraordinary and very distinctive voice. Pls, jump beck into the 70s and check out the White Queen at Hammersmith 75.

Choir? No choir, just angelic voices on command. “Pass the plate!” I’m in! One of the compensations (there are so many, to be honest) of growing older is learning to appreciate the depth of a truly outstanding performance. Which is true, it seems to me, regardless of the field of expertise on display. I’m learning from you (I was a kid in the late 70’s and 80’s) as I also learn from the (many) young KZbin creators - it seems like everyone has something to teach me, though some more than others, naturally. It took me a while to gain the humility necessary to clearly understand the depths of my own ignorance, but now that I (hopefully) have, everyone is my teacher.

Hello again Mr Music Mindset. It was so good of you to have that introduction, especially to introduce people to the legendary band, Queen and their multi talented composers, musicians, and singers. May I suggest you critiquing Queen’s performance at the 1985 charity concert called Live Aid. If you think Freddie was a “reverend” in this concert, wait until you see him with the audience eating out of his hand at Live Aid. And, if you want to see Freddie completely do a 180 degree turn, you need to critique him singing the song “Barcelona” with opera singer Montserrat Caballe. Queen doesn’t perform in “Barcelona,” but Freddie co-wrote the song for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. I don’t think I can ever make it through this song without crying. Thank you again for your wonderful contribution to music appreciation ❤

What a gentleman you are! I loved hearing and watching your reaction. Queen deserves all of the great comments they’ve been getting. The movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” explains some of the bands background, but it’s got some factual errors in it. Nevertheless, I liked the movie. I listen to many “reactors” comment on Freddie’s walking the stage with a part of the microphone stand. The movie gave a plausible reason, but really, Freddie was his own man. Again, thank you for your post. I just subscribed (which I hardly ever do) and can’t wait to see more!

The gentleman telling the story of Queen in the beginning used pics of some of Queen's Tribute Bands. He might need to be a tad more careful next time.

I just started to watch your reaction to the studio version and I checked to see if you had found the live in Monteal version....can't wait to see your reaction. This version is way better than the studio recording. This is AWESOME!

The background vocals you hear in the background are from the other band members. The voice you say say sounds like a woman's voice is the talented drummer Roger Taylor, he has this amazing high falsetto singing voice, the man has an impressive singing range! Just so you know. 👍

The incomparable Roger Taylor!! He was/is a beast on drums and vocals!!! He and Brian still tour as Queen with Adam Lambert and start their new tour in Nov! In over 50 years Queen has never split up. Please, please check out Wembley 86 concert and Budapest also 86...both complete fire, and to me at their very best👑♥️👑♥️👑 Rest In Love beautiful Freddie ♥️🙏

I wondered if Brian May was having some sort of problem with his guitar just before Freddie engages the audience. Brian disappears to the back of the stage. Freddie and the others keep the beat going until he comes back to the front of the stage. You can see Freddie looking behind him to see if Brian's sorted, Brian nods and Freddie starts singing again. Does anybody know?
