I need to vent... I'm 40. Born Aug/75. I'm ashamed to admit I never really knew of Queen.... Mostly for several songs.... But, I NEVER REALLY KNEW QUEEN!!! Up until this week in January 2016- David Bowie passed away, ... I never really knew Bowie either, sake scenario. I've been watching KZbin videos on both of them since yesterday....... It's now 1:50am.... Something about this song which I'm really hearing for the first time, (watched over and over)and how Freddy performed it gets me to the point of tears. Sorry guys, I've just now in my life learned the story behind Queen and Freddy Mercury. An amazing group, an amazing performer, an amazing person. This song's tribute with David Bowie and Annie Lennox gets me as well. I'm actually feeling depressed. REST IN PEACE Freddy... Old fans and new ones, and into the future will never forget you brother!! Christopher

+Christopher Schemer All I can say is, welcome to the fold. When, someone like me, was raised hearing Freddie on the radio and of course dear Bowie, both such huge influences, I'm already instilled with the knowledge of what true genius and talent are, and both of these wonderful men, God rest both of their souls, embody. Enjoy and keep listening to good music. And I don't mean to sound like an old fogy but, yes, it was better back in the day :)

Freddie Didn't give a fuck what people thought of him. He was gay during I time were gays were shunned and hated, yet people didn't care about him being gay/bisexual. He only cares about public opinion about his AIDS diagnosis which he kept a secret until literally 24 hours before he died.

Bob Sacamono in this concert (and in live aid as well) his vocal range was severely damaged due to a throat infection caused by HIV. Once healed, his vocal range came back stronger than ever, which is why freddie's range was so high and soft after 1988

Freddie had the best vocals of any front man ever! There is no argument on that. It's truly heartbreaking here to see his shape in this performance, the Virus had clearly already worn him down. He can't hit notes he was hitting 3 years prior to this. As much as I love this video, it's bittersweet to watch. :( RIP Freddie and Bowie.
@MCSandman8 жыл бұрын
His HIV did not affect his voice. He did some of his best studio work on the years after this. He caught a cold in the Newcastle gig two days earlier and hadn't really shaken it by this time. By Manchester 7/16 he was hitting high notes again.
@mimimoneymachine8 жыл бұрын
Freddie was not diagnosed with aids until 1987. You do not know what you are talking about. This was a solid live performance for him. Not sickly at all, it's your imagination. Freddie normally did not hit all the high notes in concert that he would hit on record and this was at the end of the tour.
@MCSandman8 жыл бұрын
This wasn't at the end of the tour, this was July 11th. The tour wouldn't end until the Knebworth gig on August 9th. It is true that Freddie is not hitting notes here that he was hitting in years prior. His live performances from 1979-1982 were his most consistent and overall most daring, but some later gigs from 1986 are also pretty good. For example, he stopped going for the A4 at 1:51 after 1985. He did in fact have a cold at this concert, but it didn't really affect his performance too much until the second night, July 12th, where partying after this performance and general vocal strain combined with the cold to roughen up his voice. The heavy overdubbing on the second night is testament to that problem, whereas the first night has almost no overdubs.
@chrisnealis42707 жыл бұрын
Not diagnosed, but he likely contracted HIV sometime during the summer of 1982. The virus can go dormant years and then hit like a freight train. He knew. He may not have come to terms with it yet, but he knew what was happening.

You can't emmulate that. Putting a crown on, crawling on a velvet chase lounge, dying hair orange dose not qualify to go down in history as the greatest front-man ever. RIP Freddie. Even if you were still alive today following the 25th anniversary of your death next year, if even you and Adam Lambert would do a duet version of is song so Adam can sing David's lines like he did yours the same way Roger sang David's lines too during all Q+AL regional tours between in 2014 (North America, Asia, New Zealand and Australia) and in 2015 (UK, Europe (minus Belgium that was canceled for Adam being sick for 24 hours so it continued on without it for resuming in Italy) and now South America including Rock In Rio Brazil's BIG 30th celebration).
