This wasn't a Queen concert, it was a benefit concert for Africa, involving artists around the world and the venues were Wembley, London England and Philadelphia In the USA. All artists had a 20 minute set and Queen came on six and a half hours into the concert. I was there that day with my husband, we were huge Queen fans, but we didn't know Queen were going to play because they weren't on the ticket. The place erupted when Queen were announced it was like electricity running through the crowd, their whole set was amazing and I really recommend you to watch it.

Lucky! I did get to watch it from my cool living room in July of 1985 but it wasn't like seeing a live performance by no means. The people that were there said it was horribly hot despite the energy, but when Queen came on the whole place went wild! one person I talked to said they knew Queen was going to attend but I thought that most people were not aware that Queen was going to show up at the concert because they didn't go in until the last week or so. From what I heard said by Bob Geldof people was that Bob Geldof told Freddie he was going to do it, and he ordered the band to regroup even though they had just come off a tour in May. 😂😂 Bob was so passionate about live aide and I can picture that. Bob Geldof said himself that Queen had the perfect performance at the perfect time on the perfect day. There was only one person that could go out in front of billions of people and say " ayyyoo & darling"& that was Freddie Mercury. I have to say that I agree with him.

Fun facts about this concert: Queen took this so seriously that they practiced over 3 hours. And my understanding is that they were the only ones that didn’t “dress up” or wore costumes for this. They dressed as themselves, at least that’s what I understood.

Official attendance was 71.000, I worked there, in the wings, unofficial was 121,000. Freddy was asked by his doctors not to perform that day because he had a throat infection and was already well into his HIV death sentence. Freddy, being Freddy, would never let anyone down if he didn't have to, and so he played the performance of his life. It is very rare that I comment on one of these but, if you really are gonna pass on a legacy and in a time that 'Black Lives Matter' then you should honor Freddy along side Martin Luther King! Different? Yes in every way, except one... All man, no matter creed color or surname, rich, poor, gay or straight. We are of one blood and we hold the same values as to those that matter most to us. . Good luck with your channel young man, make it heard... YOUR WAY!

That concert was beautiful and queen gave to free concerts to thank their fans at Hyde Park. I love listening to Freddie talk because of his accident in his perfect British English. It changed a little bit over the years as he Blended in with the British and English culture but he still had a bit of a posh English in the sixties and in the 1970s. . I certainly wish John Deacon would say something even if it was only the oppressed because he doesn't realize I don't think how many fans he really has. People appreciate the band and it wasn't just Freddie Mercury but it was all four of them!! They tore now and it's great still but doesn't. Sound the same without John playing bass.

Queen was a highly educated band. Freddie studied graphic design in college. The lead guitarist is also an astrophysicist that has worked with NASA. The drummer Roger Taylor is a dentist by trade and the bass player John Deacon was an engineer. These guys got together and studied on how to grab an audience and they were very successful.

I see I'm very late to the game, but if you haven't already, check out "Love of My Life," which is a hauntingly beautiful ballad with just Freddie singing to Brian May's accoustic guitar. A fun, sweet song is "Friends Will Be Friends." And from the Highlander movie, "Who Wants to Live Forever" and "Princes of the Universe" although I can really only recommend the first minute, thirty seconds of it, after which it goes off on a tangent. But that song rocks. I also love "Killer Queen," another feel-good song "Don't Stop Me Now" and for something completely different, rockabilly "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and if you want to go further down the rabbit hole, try something like "Prophet's Song" which also goes a little off the deep end in parts, but it's a totally cool and different song.

Freddie Mercury was born on the continent of Africa on the small island of Zanzibar which is present-day Tanzania. His parents were born in India when it was still part of England and they moved when his dad got a job in Zanzibar with the British government. Brad was sent off to boarding school in India from age 8 until he was about 17 and rarely saw his family. When he was in boarding school he had his own band called The hectics when he was about 12 or 13 and he had taken piano lessons from age 9 on because he can actually play by ear. He was nine and his aunt watched him was into something on the radio and then go play it note for note on the piano so she told his mom he needesd piano lessons to learn how to read music.. Freddy did play the guitar. The Crazy Little Thing Called Love guitar that the Fred used was just optioned recently by Brian a for $7,500 and that money was given to charity. When Zanzibar had their revolution in 1964 Freddie Mercury's family fled and came to England. That's how they ended up in England and Fred went to the university there at art school but he spoke perfect English and even better than the British people because of his boarding school days in India.

Enjoyed your reaction, my friend. You nearly missed the roar and ovation at the end :) That was not even a Queen crowd as there were 12 Acts performing that day. "Officially" the crowd was 72,000 but I live 15 miles from there and there is no way as that Stadium held 100,000 in those days and that does not include all those endless thousands on the Football pitch in front of THe Band though some seats behind the stage would not be used. More like 100,000 in my opinion...
