Written by Brian May, specifically for the “Highlander” movie soundtrack... an absolutely stunning song, perfect for its section of the movie. Brian’s intro and his part of the middle exchange with Freddie - very beautifully sung. And of course, Freddie’s powerful, passionate voice raised this song to sheer epic beauty. This song as well as the others Queen made for “Highlander “ were featured on Queen’s 12th studio album, A Kind of Magic.

Was that Deaky playing the white double bass? There was never a proper shot of his face.
@imweakfordeaky3 жыл бұрын
@@janettesinclair6279 yes it was... ! I have photos and gifs saved in my phone from the day the video was filmed. Of course he was actually mimicking playing... while he does know how to play double-bass, I don’t think he does in “orchestral style” with a bow ( he was self-taught for the studio version of ‘39, which is a totally different, finger-plucked style)

@@imweakfordeaky They are all so multi-talented, and produced such stunning works. I am about the same age, slightly younger than Freddie, slightly older than Brian, but I have only just discovered the amazing collection of music that Queen produced (thanks to lockdown). I think this is my favorite queen song and I’m a super fan of queen. My mom loved Freddie and raised me on his music. We both sobbed the day he died. She let me stay home from school and just be sad. I was too young to see him live the last time they toured in the US. But at the time no one knew he had aids and he was sick. So my mom was like I will take you next time and there was no next time. My mom still feels bad lol. But I was 9 the last time they toured in US and he died just a few years after. And my mom just thought I was to young to go to a big rock show like that. I had been to concerts but not big giant shows like Queen puts on lol. But I sure wish I could’ve gone. But I’m glad there are so many great live performances they recorded that will live forever.

If you're prepared for another weepy emotional song by Queen I'd recommend "These are the days of our lives" - one of Freddie's last songs. Though it wasn't written by him, it really did seem like Freddie was saying a fond farewell to all his fans and everyone who had loved him. Really poignant and a real heart-grabber. RIP to the immensely talented and utterly unique Mr Mercury.

hahahaha I love your reactions so MUCH.... THANK YOU for doing these Queen reactions to honor Freddie's anniversary of passing to Heaven. You really should ALSO react to this song LIVE, because (maybe you've already figured this out?) ...Queen's songs are ALWAYS TOTALLY DIFFERENT between the studio versions vs the live versions. (And Fred will leave you SPEECHLESS with this one live.) I know a lot of people are recommending "Barcelona" (Freddie in a tux!)... There is also "The Golden Boy" which is w Montserrat Caballe, too. There is ALSO "Las Palabras De Amor", which I LOVE. (As well as GORGEOUS, mustachioed Fred in his tux). A couple other official music videos that you should put on your list (or have people vote on) are: "The Miracle" and "Breakthru". These are both really HAPPY, upbeat songs/AWESOME videos. ("The Miracle" is actually Brian May's FAV song that Fred wrote... because it is SO hopeful/optimistic, even though Fred was terminally ill at the time that he wrote it.)

Yeah, Brian wrote it! They did the soundtrack to Highlander and after Brian saw the scene where Duncan’s wife grew old and died while he stayed young, he basically rushed out with the song complete in his head. And apparently when they came back with the music, it matched up with the scene EXACTLY, no need to cut anything.
@sadfaery3 жыл бұрын
This song was written for the film "Highlander", which has an immortal main character who falls in love and watches the woman he loves grow old and die while he stays the same, never aging, never dying. This song is basically the theme song for that love, for that relationship in the movie. They wrote the entire soundtrack for that film, the album "A Kind of Magic", and the music was later used for Highlander the series as well. Brian wrote this particular song, and of course it allows is to hear his beautiful singing voice, as well, which is quite well suited to ballads like this one.

One of my favorite things about The Jayy Show is she takes the time to learn about these performers from all genres and follows the trail of what she likes and loves to gather more experience with her favorites. Then shares them with us. He really never left :-) And his musics gets better and better everyday! :-) This music is from a movie, Highlander, beautifull m,usic, and the clip they made with the movie too... the whole scene is awesome, to cry for. But still, it may says things about two people who cant be together, cos morals, cos family issues, racism, something like Romeo and Julieta too, "theres no time for us, theres no place for us"... he says "us" not "me"... theres a place for him and for his beloved one, but not for both. At least is what i get from the music. If Im not mistaken, the song was written by Brian. They made the video on the London Catedral with 1 thousand candles light on it :O Amazing.

The most tragic song ever. Put into the context of the movie Highlander, it's about an immortal who falls in love with a mortal. Over the years he does not age but watches his wife grow old and die. The pain can't even be imagined, spending a lifetime loving someone only to watch them fade away, knowing you have many lifetimes ahead of you to miss them. The love lasts forever but so does the heartache.
@johnmcdermid68963 жыл бұрын
Anybody notice Deaky (John Deacon) playing the double bass, Brian jokingly said he should play it in the video, Deaky went out and learned how too play it, the rest of the group couldn't believe when he brought it into the studio and played it perfectly, now that is what you call professionalism......

Immortal Connor Mcleod who marries mortal, Heather knowing that she will get older and die as he stays young and unaged. But of his immortality, they can't have children. This song playing as Heather dies in Connor's arms. Each year after her death, Connor light a candle on her birthday.
