Despite the fact that the proud tangs negate the purpose of the canoe pattern, it's still a really good looking knife. Especially considering the price! Cheers, buddy!

Yes, I'd be much more critical if it were more expensive. As it is not going to win my favorite Canoe award, but a solid knife with some excellent blade types.

I like the Canoe pattern and I love the Queen Canoe in sawcut bone. That one looks good except the way the blades stick over the bolsters. You said it right the design of my the Canoe is to blend them in so the tang doesn't stick up. So that part is weird but the rest of the knife looks good. Thanks for reviewing it.

Thanks for having a look, Frog. The original Queen was an American made brand that many wish had stuck around. SMKW is making them out of China now, but Tobias has heard some things about them coming back home. Dunno anything about that, but let's hope.

One of my criteria for a good knife is: can it do a good job peeling and cutting an apple? "Modern" knives can be like using a little hatchet. They do a bad job. A traditional pocket knife has thin, short blades that are more like a scalpel than a little hatchet.

Thanks for the quality response, Jeroen. I too would like to see the bolsters cover the tangs for a smooth spine profile. The 440C blade steel is a nice upgrade over previous Queen offerings from SMKW.

Oh, yeah, RJ noticed those proud tangs, too. Weird. I’m not excited about the covers - starting to remind me of old Parker Frost burnt yellowy covers from the ‘90s. I like the slightly better steel, tho. I think RR has spoiled me for choices.

I love Canoes, but if the bolsters do not cover the blade end, its an absolute no go, thats the main feature of a Canoe & design purpose of a Canoe, personally I would return such a knife. I am not picky about other things like centeering or some blade scratches but that here is just not ok, because here they superesede both ends significantly... ufff
