So good to hear your thoughts, Emily, and these are all little tasks that I have on my to list too - so it was very motivating. ❤

Finally, someone with a reasonable approach to keeping organized. Everybody has a sweet spot as far as how much they need to keep. It's so silly to try to conform to someone else's idea of how you should do something, especially if it works for you.

I'm definitely not a minimalist, but I'm also not a maximalist. My home is filled with memories of when our children were young and antiques from our ancestors. I don't want to look at stark walls and an abundance of empty spaces. That's cold and boring to me. I want my home to feel warm and cozy.

Absolutely agree, Dana! 😊

Hi, Emily, I am sooo glad to know I'm not alone with taking a step back from many aspects of minimalism without losing a clean and organized aesthetic. I have pared down sentimental items but I just could not just toss some of them without feeling very sad. My kids are grown but they still love to visit and see many things from their childhood, especially around the holidays. I had to smile when you were decluttering your recipe book. I call some recipes "fantasy" recipes, in which I imagine myself as having a Martha Stewart Thanksgiving--- but I know I'm not able anymore to complicate things, and instead go for the tried and true dishes everyone likes that I can whip up easily. It's not always about my own preferences but how my family feels when in our home.

Hi Patti! I love the term “fantasy recipes”. That’s totally what they are! Yes, as one gets older, sentimental things just have more meaning. 💗

I love cookbooks and recipes! I realized I only look up recipes online and rarely actually use cookbooks except to admire and inspire! I want to keep my curated cookbooks, but I fantasize someday I’ll have a binder of my tested and favorite recipes!

I really appreciated this chat and your views on minimalism and it’s funny that you are decluttering your recipes, because I just the last few days have decided to get rid of all the lovely recipe books that I haven’t once used in all the years I’ve had them😀

It’s a great time of year to go through recipes especially before all the holiday baking! 😊

I enjoy being minimalist. I don’t like over done decorating as I think it tends to look messy and fewer items makes cleaning much easier. Guess it’s whatever you’re comfortable with.

I absolutely get your perspective and even felt that way for a season of my life. 😊
