This entire song, lyrically, is a masterpiece. "They're just photos after all, outside the frame, is what we're leaving out, won't remember anyway" Good lord that is good. The photo isn't important because everything that's NOT in the photo is what mattered, but you don't think about what's just outside the frame of the photo. The ever quoted (rightfully so) "I want something good to die for, to make it beautiful to live" out whatever you want there..it's an AMAZING line. Could go on and on with this song.

Let's not forget . So safe to play along . Little soldiers in a row. Falling in and out of love. Something sweet to throw away. Damn . I lived that. She is riding the CC and I want a new mistake. And the emphasis on the line do you believe it in your head.. all sung differently, yes a masterpiece.

@@dana102083 same Dana. I really feel we've lost something along the way with the digitization of music (among other things.) It feels much more corporate, cold and artificial today. Reading through the inserts felt like a little journal with personal touches from the bands, they were always so unique and often had lots of little info and quotes from members. It just felt like a more human experience.

I was 15 and salty about being born too late for "good music" when this came out. Songs for the deaf would have been the very first thing I heard that was rad and of my own time. Whenever I come across something from this album, it takes me back to the excitement of having something new and feeling the urgency to push it on to friends. I hope no generation goes without that.
@jrodowens
@jrodowens 3 жыл бұрын
I guess I'm still a little salty. I'm close in age, I reckon.. remember just recently thinking I graduated high school at the very last death rattle of rock & roll (rightly or wrongly.) By the Way by the Chili Peppers was the rock album of my senior year, and anthem of that summer for me and my friends (went to see them in San Antonio, good show) Remember listening to my radio as a boy, always waiting for '1979' or maybe something from Pearl Jam, etc to come on and being so excited when they did. I'm with you in that I hope young people always get to experience something at least akin to that..

Man, I remember seeing this video like it was yesterday. I must’ve been like 8 years old when this began to ran on MTV, when that car drove through that fence and the song started blasting, my brain was locked in and I was mesmerized from what I was witnessing. The pure energy in this song and video is just unmatched to this day. Got to see them live first time ever a few weeks back, it was a dream come true and when this song started the crowd went F’N NUTS, myself included. Haven’t had that kind of experience in my life. If you ever get the chance of seeing these dudes live, do not hesitate to do so. This band is beyond badass forever.
