Walmar neto I couldn't name any better tracks, but there are a few just as good. "Celestial Elixir" by Haken and "Grand Parade" by Blind Guardian come to my mind. And although I'm not the biggest fan of their latest efforts, Dream Theaters "Bridges In The Sky" is a fantastic track. Yes, I like long tracks.

A solid 9. I cannot get tired of this album. When I start it, I almost always listen to it all the way through. I think they should have won best album at the Grammys, but who cares (the Grammys don't mean anything, it just honors the popularity scale of teens and doesn't celebrate true art and craftsmanship). ..Like Clockwork is one of the most creative rock albums in a while, but I have never heard any songs from it on my local rock radio station (I have come to hate mediocre songs that are played constantly on the radio)

Joey Duran lullabies to paralyse and era vulgaris should be last I will admit I didn’t like Villains at first but now I think about it it’s pretty much the same QOTSA as they where before but expressed a different way and it’s cool to hear the band actually doing the songs on a whole album without the millions of guest appearances they’ve had on their stuff since the start

This was the album that introduced me to QOTSA and I think I couldn't have gotten a better start. Two of my friends were constantly talking about the album when it came out and they were actually going on my nerves a little, so I decided to check them out if only to shut them up. Now I totally get their enthusiuasm with the band, this record and Songs For The Deaf quickly have made it to my favourites and the rest of their albums, especialy Rated R, are really strong as well.

From the comments I've seen, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone talk about Kalopsia, it's my favourite track on the album. The beginning with just the piano and simple melody, with josh's singing, and then the transition into electric guitar conveys so much emotion. Also, the lyrics have such an interesting meaning, I love this track so much !

Its such a good song. It feels like the verses convey the idea of a peaceful 'Kalopsia' state, then the heavy hitting and loud choruses crash you back to reality, especially at the end when the song goes off the rail a bit.

Its halfway into 2016 and I'm still pissed that they didn't win that grammy, I mean come the fuck on, the Imagine Dragons album had like only one kinda okayish song -_- This album honestly is one of my favorite albums period. Not because it sounds the greatest (its really fucking good though, not trying to bring it down by any means) but because as I get older and experience more things and go through lessons of life, I start to understand the picture of ...like clockwork better. The vocals were fantastic-stellar, the guitar riffs had me in awe of how people could even make that sound with guitars, and the bass was on point. Imagine Dragons just sound like a shitty kinda pop-wannabee alternative rock group

@@Bolensgoldrush You think people pay for grammys? lmfao. No it works like this. Thousands of older established people in the industry vote across genres, and most of the voters haven’t heard 99% of the nominations, favoring older famous names, white skin nominees, and males. The most predictable way to win is an artist dying.

The animatic music video covering half of this album or so, it really changed my life. I was in a pretty bleak, dreary, depressing rut in my life in a job that I felt was stealing my soul, my days and nights, and my memories from me. And somehow, as a lifelong QotSA fan, I had missed anything recent by them for years when I stumbled onto this album via that concise, very designed experience through that 'one' longer, collective track composed of most of the best picks from the album. And as it turns out, I was actually starting to grow my own Vampyre of Time and Memory, in my eventual MS diagnosis this year (as well as Queens releasing a new LP) a track that even back then FELT like it had special meaning to me, but with a connection it would take years for life to actually prove to me. I'm not quite sure where this one falls, for me; even leaving aside my personal experience and biases, and even counting my massively wide range of musical preferences, ... Like Clockwork could very well be my favorite album. It is very hard for me to put concrete numbers or placements on things, but there's not going to be too many albums jockeying for that position even through my indecisiveness, and the fact that it would easily always make that cut to me says enough.

My opinion is that this is one of the best records Qosta have released, but I love all their albums. Josh has been through a traumatic period in his life and his songwriting has matured, Qosta's music has transcended beyond just creating great, hard hitting riffs in C standard tuning, to incorporate a more mature songwriting element, have you heard the lyrics on this album, they're acerbic, eloquent and charismatic!

I find it kind of ironic in a way that the old game guitar hero actually is what introduced me to a if variety of bands, many of which have become some of my favorites. Anyways tho glad to see that QOTSA album has reviewed such a great response! I have to admit I was really hesitant on buying the album when I first found it was going to be more of a compilation album than what I had been used to with their previous recordings, but once I heard, I appear missing, and a few samples such as Keep your eyes peeled and Kolopsia I fell in love again and can't wait to hear more great stuff from them in the future!

The warm reception of this album and its place in the current landscape reminds me alot of Soundgarden in the 90s. Their albums Badmotorfinger and Superunknown, like this album, were commercially accessible and not really doing anything new musically, but were still loved for the great songwriting and production.

You're very articulate. Where did you study? Anyway, the '4th LP' (LTP), I agree, 'didn't hit as perfectly', that is, in terms of fan acceptance (including Oliveri as a fan), but oh boy it is their studio masterpiece! It is their statement of what the fine art of recording is all about: quality, depth, nuance, 'shadows on the track', detail... SFTD was about that too, but LTP was such a smooth follow-up. Well, I just love it. Keep it up man!

This album really resonated with me, exactly because of the juxtaposition of the lyrics and the tone of the music. It can be soft and sorrowful at times, and at other times zany and pounding in it's drive. It's dark, dreary and a little haunting at times. It remains not just a favorite QOTSA album for me, but one of my favorite LP's ever.

10 years later this review still holds up. And now I'm older to know who Bowie was and is. I was too young and ignorant. I always discovered music on my own and nobody ever showed me anything really. I'd just pick albums from the library in France when I moved there. When I left France I remember downloading albums and Queens was a band I came across in games like Need for Speed and Gran Turismo. I had to Google them and became obsessed. Now it's time to obsess with Bowie and his music. I know. I'm extremely late.

+Jack Von Cider -- hey and what's up fellow music enthusiast. This is said with a plain / calm tone of voice. I have tried to understand what the heck this ignoramous is trying to say , by sitting through a bunch of his programs and.....ALL of this HumanSpam Fucktards reviews are 'fair enough'.......that's why none of the Damageplan show attending Homicidal Maniacs have not shot him in the face. Fair Enough does not coincide with: accurate, concise or relevant / valuable criticism........He is at best a hack at being a hack..........and yes this album probably is not going to eclipse the first 3........A. Fantano does not get the depth of music ; why do think he decided to be an internet critic (just sayin'). He does not innately get the depth of love and pain that goes into the process of being an artist. He does not grasp a body of work and that this catalog / cannon of music that is QUEENS OF THA MUTHATRUKIN' STONE AGE is and will always be F-ING relevant music , that goes down into the annuls of musicology without him............

I am a huge QOTSA fan, and I thought that ...Like Clockwork is their best album hands down. The only issue I had with the album., oddly enough, was Fairweather Friends. It kind of faltered compared to the rest of the album, in my opinion. Despite the huge "cast" of the song... It was just.. Kind of... Meh. It was boring and I felt that all of the vocals blended in TOO much. Where did Josh begin and Elton end? But everything else on this album was fantastic. I completely agree with your soft 9. And yes, I dug through all of your reviews just to find this since I discovered you. -JD

I realize this is two years after you left the comment, but that's the point. I felt the same when I first heard the song, but now, nearly four years after release, I think it's one of the best on the album. It was such a slow burner for me, but I've realized it's just so quintessentially Queens. Definitely some of the best guitar work on the album, and hearing Elton John go ham on the keyboard is amazing. Fairweather Friends is nothing short of legendary.

As far as this decade is concerned- I think this album is the gold standard for "rock albums". Meaning- this is a beginning to end complete work. There is no filler- it's all good. It's something that isn't being done anymore like it was in the 70's, 80's and early 90's. I'm not saying it's a concept album or anything- it's just one of those albums that you start at the beginning and many times you end up listening to the whole thing in one sitting. In my opinion, QOTSA has done this twice- Songs for the Deaf, which was more conceptual, was the other one. However, every single album this band has ever made always has a distinct vibe that goes along with it. And while QOTSA certainly has developed a trademark sound- nobody could ever accuse them of doing the same thing over and over. And of all the work they have done- this one just seems different from the rest. A great album that makes me look forward to another great one in the future.

Bravo for not being afraid to rate this highly even though QOTSA generally aren't necessarily apart of the fringe indie scene which seems to be the only acceptable avenue to be raved about in music today. Homme definitely pushed the envelope in a good way while still incorporating their sound and created a collection of great songs which deserve the high praise. Absolutely agree with the rating.
