Yes! always happy to see QOTSA! When you go through enough of their albums to get a feel for their range though, you HAVE to do a video on Them Crooked Vultures. I'm sure someone has suggested it before, but its a supergroup of Josh Homme from Queens, Dave grohl, and John Paul Jones from Zeppelin. Absolute 10/10 of a record

Everyone is anticipating someone’s in the Wolf it seems... great song. But I NEVER CAME, The very next song on the album in this review (and also the blood is love which bookends Wolf)is probably my favorite ever by them. And there’s a lot of runners up for what it’s worth.. can’t wait for you to hear part 2 👍

It's my favorite album by QOTSA, creepy, dark, sexy, moody...and I think more adventurous musically than the previous records before it. Also BILLY GIBBONS FROM ZZ TOP is a guest guitarist on some of the tracks. Killer. Also Joe Barresi produced and MIXED this LP, so it feels a lot like his other work (Bad Religion and Weezer's Pinkerton come to mind). There's a bit of a "darker" texture to the mix...it's not "muddy"...just...lots of low mids to the edge of muddy.

i feel you when it comes to the muddiness in the guitars - they definitely leaned into the guitars being front and centre this album, and i think that's why (josh focuses on really mid-range heavy guitars) but i think it serves to make the big brighter guitar parts stand out
@agdgdgwngo2 жыл бұрын
With the "muddiness" your describing on the guitar i think it's double tracked. Most prominent on medication and In my Head. Josh Homme is a master of guitar tone, make sure you check out Kyuss. It's not on a level of musical competency as Queens but there's groove, awesome riffs from Josh Homme playing in C tuning through a bass amp. They always had an absolutely shit hot bass player and drummer too. The downside is Josh doesn't yet sing in Kyuss, John Garcia is great but much more of a standard rock/metal singer.

After many many years i tried to dig into more of this band but i could not somehow (probably mostly cuz of my laziness) Now with you i definitely want to start from this album, cuz it sounds fucking amazing! Creepy, dark, sludge, dirty, heavy, catchy, energetic, emotional.. All are in one album. Btw if you dig into this kind of stuff you can check out the band Kyuss and other bands like them (stoner rock/metal is the only keywords you need) Kyuss is previous band of Josh Homme.
