I had found Jeff's fantastic works thanks to getting one of his titles in a humble bundle. His super-focused mid-budget genre of RPG was exactly in my wheelhouse. Regarding music, you can bet that he didn't have the budget for hiring a sound guy to make a unique soundtrack for the title. Still, a you can really improve the vibes of any RPG with even the most basic MIDI instrumentals, so long as they do not clash with the game itself.

Yeah, I was also using some royalty free music for my Let's Play of his games, but it just cant beat decent original music. While cost is surely a factor, he actually stated in an reddit Q&A that he didnt want to add music and thinks people are better off using their own, which I just cant agree with.

@@KordanorsGamingLair it’s my belief that he’s doing his best to make up for his likely razor thin profit margins for selling his products. When you’re that tiny of a developer every penny is going to count.

Very detailed review, many thanks! My issue when playing the game was that the graphics didn't scale and look good on a higher resolution monitor, did you have this problem?

Nah, still playing on a 1080p screen. But I would then also just suggest to set the resolution down to 1080p (+Fullscreen), that should work even on a 4k screen. I mean, sure. you won't get 4k pristine pixels, but I mean...we are talking about rudimentary Spiderweb graphics anyways. Don't think that really makes a difference. ^^ Possibly best results if you take your screen resolution and divide it by 2, to have pixel perfect scaling. But you'd need to experiment. You can change the resolution by changing the option in game to be asked again at startup.

Good review again :-) I just can't understand why Jeff Vogel doesn't use music in any of his games, even though music is a VERY STRONG mood carrier and is actually indispensable, especially in role-playing games. It really can't be that difficult to add some music files to the program code at appropriate places in the game. Even I can do that in my game and I'm not a top programmer ... Jeff Vogel does NOT create the graphics for his game himself and has them created by freelance graphic designers from the Internet for his project against payment. So it shouldn't be a problem if other people create the right music for his games. Using absolutely no music in an RPG is an absolute NO GO for me and as I said it is incomprehensible to me why Jeff Vogel has been doing THIS for DECADES ...

Yeah, he could basically just do what I did: Use some royalty free music and just trigger it at the right time. I mean if could still add an option to disable music for people who want to use their own soundtrack. ^^
