Queenslanders 'shaking their heads' over possibility of Brisbane's name change

Queensland Opposition Leader David Crisafulli says everyday Queenslander must be "shaking their heads" in disbelief over the government's misplaced priorities with more focus on changing the name of Brisbane.

The Queensland Premier should apologise! For a Premier to attempt to abolish a place name established by one culture and have it replaced with the place name of an another culture without any consultations with the whole of community is not only dictatorial but also very discriminatory against non indigenous Australians. A bilingual approach to renaming Fraser Island and perhaps the City of Brisbane would at least be received as being a decent approach to address any concerns of indigenous Australians. The prejudice and bias of the Queensland Premier who is seemingly hell bent on demonising everything that’s good about from emigrant settlement in Queensland has become most obvious in recent times. 🇦🇺💯%

I belive this labor government in Australia will only see one term and may end up having election early. Nothing they have done to please the people of the country other than make issues for the country. Big Business and small business people not happy. Unemployed not happy.The workforce not happy. Labor government are a disaster. And only Seem to be working for only to please manoirty groups of woke people. And if they dont watch it labor party will sit on the sidelines of government for many decades as they once did before till they change its policies. Prime minister Anthony Albanese has lied to Australia people to get elected. And has caused inflation intrest rates to rise cost of living to double through his idiotic energy policies. A worse housing crises by allowing a flud of migration. He's spending billions of dollars on defence with little platforms to actually defend with. On top of that he's trying to introduce an indigenous voice to parliament including adding it to the constitution that can cause serious issues for Australia legislation and billions of tax money going to a few manoirty and not even helping indigenous Australians at all. Queensland premier is also labor government and wants to change the name of city Brisbane to indigenous Australian name after 150 years. It's just ridiculous. Many places local city councils displaying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and not even the Australian flag. It's like they are a part of some cault. And they got into all the high position's of government.

Here are two points which prove changing the name would be shit: 1. Meanjin (the proposed new name) of course is in a language other than English. The reality of it is that different languages can have different names for places, the English name for Meanjin is Brisbane. There is nothing wrong with some languages having different names for places. The official name of a city (written on signs, documents, etc) is 99.99% of the time the most common language spoken in that region. So the real question is, why would the government change the name of Brisbane to a version of its name which less than 3% of its residents speak?! (Sorry for the borderline tongue twister paragraph) 2. The memories, physical locations, businesses, signs, roads, etc associated with the name Brisbane could never fully adopt a new name successfully. The name change would be too much effort and would pretty much tear up all memories associated with Brisbane. For these reasons they shouldn’t name Brisbane Meanjin to make 3% of the population happy, it would be shit.

Just like the change of name to Fraser Island without our consent There were 3 tribes that frequented Fraser Island. The Butchulla tribe were the dominant tribe. Only 15 of their decendants have any knowledge of their spoken language. 26 million people in Australia know of the English language so it is offensive and racist to us to give preference to 15 people. What about those other two tribes who called it something else ? Regardless, the Butchulla mob had no written language and therefore no alphabet so only a virtue signalling do gooder would put a silent 'K' in the word that the Butchulla pronounce Gari. Most of us will still call it Fraser. Cancelling European Culture is offensive to most Australians

Why not teach the local aboriginal languages in schools if you want people to know them and to revive them. Instead of introducing names that nobody can remember or pronounce (including the newsreader)
