One thing Tate sang manly. Meaning that where a lot of rock singers sang in a high range but sounded almost like a female. But Tate could hit some extremely high parts but still sounded like a man. One of the best vocalists of all time.

I have to say, It's always great when a band has something to say...and when their lead singer can delivery that message in a way that connects with the audience. Queensryche must be one of the most under appreciated GREAT bands of all time. In a day and age of dance numbers, lip synching entire shows and dozens of backing track vocals when they do decide to sing, a band like Queensryche shows you the beauty and the majesty of doing something pure, simple and powerful.
@dreadalex
@dreadalex 3 жыл бұрын
True but hate to say there aren't bands that are underappreciated there are people with more advanced music taste than others. Ok compared perhaps to Gun's n Roses they weren't that mainstream successful but to metal audiences Queensryche are one of the true greats ever.

They flew under my radar but I was a sleeper. Now I'm obsessed with them. I can't believe what DeGarmo/Tate did in such a short time. They were hitting their stride at a bad time. They were getting great exposure and airplay right before Grunge killed off metal for a while. Sadly, the best metal band from Seattle was handicapped by the Seattle Grunge scene that shifted the tastes of many listeners and stations. DeGarmo leaving was the nail in the coffin.

Clearly the best band of the era with extraordinary musicians, experts in their own field. And that voice, there is no match. Between Steve Perry (Journey) and Geoff Tate, their simply were no other singers, Eddie Jackson (Bass), Chris Degarmo (lead guitars) and of course, Scott Rockenfeld (drums) and Michael Wilton (Guitars), that band was supreme with incredible songs. Whatever happened, they had their time when they were #1.

I wish I appreciated Queensryche more in the 80's and 90's. I think when you're that young, you don't realize the magnitude of what you're listening to, and how meaningful it can be. I haven't listened to Queensryche in years, but they popped up on my music app the other day, and I haven't been able to stop listening to them since! Geoff Tate was (and still is) a phenomenal singer!!! There aren't many that can sing they way he can. I've read about what has happened with the band over the last several years, and it's disheartening. To let petty BS destroy something that was so great is very sad. I will not listen to anything with their new singer, because Geoff Tate made Queensryche what it was, and he is the true voice of the band. RIP Queensryche... you will never again be what you once were.

Don't slam the door on your way out Don't leave without saying goodbye Another long distance night alone You leave me wanting, always leave me wanting more Last word today, coming home to stay? Wouldn't that be nice, for awhile? But now my take-out food is growing cold And the candle's burned a hole in the floor And I'm still waiting for the ring of the phone I'm all alone And it's another rainy night, without you Guess I'll leave the light on for you It's just another rainy night without you Listen, there's a foghorn blowing from the coast tonight Remember making love in the rain? Strange how laughter looks like crying with no sound Raindrops taste like tears, without the pain I'm not much without you, can't leave if I wanted to Maybe that's why you stay around But tonight I'll sit here tending the fire And pace the floor one hundred times in an hour And check the voice-mail for a message you've called I'm all alone It's just another rainy night, without you Waiting by the phone alone It's just another rainy night, without you Guess I'll leave a light on for you I know I've said it before Hate the sound of the closing door And your footsteps walking away But now my take-out food is growing cold, And the candle's burned a hole in the floor And I'm still waiting for the ring of the phone I'm all alone It's just another rainy night, without you Waiting by the phone alone And it's another rainy night, without you Guess I'll leave a light on for you It's just another rainy night, it's just another rainy night, It's just another rainy night without you

I've heard people say that Queensryche would have made millions more had they emerged ten years earlier. But to be honest, I'm glad they came out when they did. It did two things: 1. It made/kept their music more authentic. They wrote more from the heart without the temptation to write garbage to make a quick buck. 2. It also made their fanbase more authentic as well. You don't hear many people hating on Queensryche simply because they haven't heard of them, and those who do generally enjoy what they hear. Frankly, in my opinion, I like it that way. Seems more genuine to me.

So many memories. I blasted Queensryche non-stop on my cassette tape in my 77 Camaro. I was in my early 20's, I bartended at night, hooked up with chicks whenever possible, lived at home, barely had a concern in the world. Best time of my life! Then adulthood took over and RIP fun times. But I'll always remember great music like this and recall back to that time when I felt so free and I had my whole future ahead of me and I didn't give a s*it about anything. Unfortunately, I never felt freedom and fun times like that ever again. If you're young .... live life like you want and don't hold back because one day it'll be too late to ever get those days back again.
