Ken Brookins - Late 80's early 90's my friend, Freddie Woods, a tall black man from Detroit was a drummer in a local band & a DJ at KOMP a rock station in Vegas for years. One of the biggest and baddest head bangers I ever knew and an AWESOME radio personality! Biggest fan of KISS i ever knew, too. His skin color was irrelevant to me. In fact, we had been hanging out for a couple of years when one day I said to him, "OMG! Freddie you're a black man!". He replied, " You just noticed that?". "Actually, yes" I replied. We both laughed about that for a long time afterwards. When he would play the song "Hot Cherie" by Hardline at KOMP during his shift, that was a cue for me to come by the station with a bottle of Gewertztiminer (sp?) wine. He got a lot of "love" from the white chicks always until he married one. We had so much fun hanging out back then. Then, as is now, skin color means nothing to me. It's the person inside that matters. Ken Brookins, keep on rocking!
@SuperGorak7 жыл бұрын
welcome to the world of skin-color-doesn't-matter; and "black" is a strange word for a culture (which is shaped passively by slavery and Jim Crow) rather than a race. As a white guy who is also into this music, I feel like I share some assets of the "black" culture despite my taste in music, but I don't really need to elaborate on this, man. Don't feel weird.

Within Queensryche's music from '86 to '90, you could hear a very subtle proggy vibe (namely Rush, Saga, Pink Floyd), along with the main influence (Iron Maiden). That's why, at that time, the band was so popular (and so original).

I wasn't wheelchair bound, but when the horror is trapped in your head, you can't escape it. I'm now 38 years post injury and have accomplished more than I ever thought I could have. "Now I'm moving forward and I'm never looking back," powerful words I've lived. Music has power and Metal has driven me forward and classical music and jazz allows me to chill out. After a Car Crash in Little Rock Arkansas back in 1997 that broke both of my legs and was forced to a Wheelchair for a while with casts on both of my legs. I was told that I would probably never walk again and this was my life going forward. I contemplated Suicide and just ending myself until a former friend made me start listening to this track over and over again. It gave me the Strength to Fight back and take my life back. I stared Death in the face but I didnt let death take my life or the life that I live now. In the Verse I wont be torn between the man in the Chair and the man in my dreams, I'm going to melt the 2 men into 1. That gave me the strength and the power to come back from that part of my life and now I'm walking and have been since 1999. I have a 15yr old daughter and living in Florida. I'm truly being the Best I Can

Has a guitar player songwriter myself and fan of them since their first album, I think one of the things that made them a truly great band is that everyone in that band knew their place and worked to make the song the star. The solos weren't over done, the drums were right where they should be, the bass filled in the low end perfectly and Tate delivered the lyrics and melodies with perfection. The other thing that made them stand out from a lot of other bands of their era was that they were actually writing songs about something besides just partying and tits. They took a lot of heat early on being labeled as iron maiden copycats, but I think they did their own thing and had their own sound. I saw them live for the empire album tour and they sounded spot on with the album live. That album had a lot of production in it, but the fact they were able to pull it off live very convincingly it is a testament to how good they were as a band. Still blows my mind that Geoff Tate was a damn smoker. That's probably half the reason he can't hit a lot of those notes anymore.

I just saw from a interview that Tate wrote this song after he met a man that could no longer use his legs. People can say Tate is hard to get along with but Geoff will always b QUEENSRYCHE and he's now sounding great again.

That's not true that Tate wrote it Because I did and DeGarmo composed it Look to Sony Music It simply says composed by DeGarmo The St Louis Star wrote the words God knows, DeGarmo knows and I know Any more than us 3 is a crowd

Don't worry, dear he'll never find the gun A child alone in daddy's room The gun was hidden here No one home to catch me when I fall A young man now in a private chair I've seen the world through a bitter stare But my dream is still alive I'm going to be the best I can I want to be a busy man I want to see a change in the future I'm gonna make the best of what I have I want to write for a magazine I'm gonna be the best they've ever seen I know I'll win if I give it all I can I won't let go Gotta make the grade, no I won't let go To be the best man, the best man that I can Back street hoop star you've got it good You were the wonder of the crumbling neighborhood Now taking bids on the next six digit plan Showed me that my will survived The tragedy that came into my life Giving me hope and the new start that I have And I won't let go Gotta make the grae no, I won't let go To be the best man, the best man that I can Step by step I dream the plan From my chair to walking man This constant dream is on my mind Chase the light I see ahead Luminate the path I tread I live to be the best I can Now I'm moving forward and I'm never looking back Straight ahead, focused on the big attack On a roll and I'm never slowing down I won't be torn between The man in the chair and the man that's in my dream I'm going to melt the two men into one And I won't let go Gotta make the grade I set no, I won't let it go To be the best man, The best man that I can The best man that I can The best man that I can

one of the Best progressive Rock bands back then besides Rush...
@dondrury99578 жыл бұрын
You are comparing perhaps the worst Rush song with one of the best of Queensryche...not a fair comparison. Compare this to Spirit of radio or Freewill...cant do it. :) Im just saying...

I never liked Rush. Geddy Lee is a terrible singer. But I love Queensyche and Dream Theater.
