Ugggh! What everyone else is trying to explain about this Album. The Concept ? They are using to describe the Album. It actually is one calls A Rock Opera. The songs tell a story from beginning to end with a few clues to secrets he is telling us.

My favorite track off this epic LP! If your going to do the entire thing, start from track one, as the entire LP is a single story. Each song tells a chapter. It is considered the very best Concept LP ever made. I seen this tour in person, and will never forget it! 🔥

Chris DeGarmo was a tremendous writer and played guitar to the song construction to the point that was surgically precise. When he left, the band foundered and never regained the greatness that they deserved. His style was not just so well suited to their sound, but it drove the music, with his understanding of what he wanted to put across. I never really took to the albums, post Promised Land. There always seemed to be something lacking, no matter how the band tried to keep the level at the top of their game. It just goes to show that when you have the right chemistry, no matter how hard you try, once it`s gone, you can never regain it.

The whole Operation Mindcrime album is a masterpiece. It's a concept album, meaning it's a story from beginning to end. You should listen to the album in its entirety & you should do some more songs by them like I Will Remember, Walk In The Shadows, I dream In Infrared , Empire, Jet City Woman & so many others. They also did an unplugged on MTV back in the day & I'm sure you can watch the whole show on you tube if you type in Queensryche Unplugged

One of the absolute greatest concept metal records of all time. It's flawless. Queensryche is the pure definition of genius NOT being understood in its own time. This record should be in the Smithsonian....its concept and lyrics are more relevant than ever. Geoff is one of the greatest to sing Rock imo. Ever.

Sister Mary is the girl un. "Suite Sister Mary" is another track you should listen to - the live version. The stranger he sees is when he looks into a mirror. People are afraid of the unknown and "turn away from the eyes of a stranger" afraid to know what lies behind my stare!
@andrewawakened6282 жыл бұрын
One thing you missed - HE is the stranger. He's looking into the mirror and doesn't recognize the person that is looking back at him - himself. That's why the says "I turn my head and stare into the eyes of a stranger, I've always known that the mirror never lies"

Another very nice analysis! I think maybe what you were trying to say about how this song and "Take Hold of the Flame" were different, but you could still hear that it was a Queensryche song, is that they have a definite "sound" which is evident even though the songs may be very different. I think they have several musical qualities and an intensity that lets you identify it as a Queensryche song pretty readily. Not to mention Geoff''s very recognizable voice! They are also rather known for Chris and Michael's "twin"guitar parts, which I love! The lyrics of THIS song, are beyond the ability for anyone to decipher unless they're heard the whole story. I know we keep saying that, but it's so true. I don't think anyone here wants to tell you the whole story because that would kind of spoil the enjoyment of hearing the story unfold the way QR designed it to. I will say, that when Geoff sings: "All I want the same as everyone:. Why am I here, and for how long.". That is just a reference to saying he's like ALL humans beings. He just wants to know WHY he's here on earth -- what's his PURPOSE? And how long does he have on earth? If this were a "stand alone" song in which the lyrics weren't tied to a specific storyline, then lyric meanings would be much more open to interpretation. But THIS song has lyric meaning that's more specific. But I can see you have a knack for dissecting lyrics. You had some good thoughts about what was going on. Looking forward to Friday's reaction! P.S. I can see why you were a little unsure if this was the same singer as in the previous video. Geoff is a man of a thousand hair styles! I've never seen so many on one guy over the years. This look was not his best, but most of them look pretty good!

This album came out in 1988 - at the end of the "rock" era, making way for grunge! I see that you've reacted to many covers of songs - try reacting to the originals from the eighties or even the sixties or seventies! Seen many reactors fall for this older music!! Btw I was 27 when this album came out!!!

The lyrics will be hard to follow because this album Operation Mindcrime is a full story concept album with distinct themes throughout and well defined characters . This is the last song of the album so you are hearing of our semi heroes anguished and retreats But it is full of Cold War rhetoric ; churches running drugs , pimping phony nuns . Discussions of sex and drug trafficking ; communist recruitment ; revolution that ends n nihilistic crimes . Also the video you watched was from an accompanying fulll album video that sets up the whole story visually as you follow the music and lyrics If you like I will try to find the full video It came in a box set with poster; CD and the movie video . Got it for Christmas 34 years ago Peace

@@venicerealm Sean explained that well, but don't be daunted by how complicated it sounds. When you hear the story unfold, in sequence, it will make perfect sense. And you'll understand much more from this song, which is the last part of the story. Also, because this was the official video for this song, a record executive (probably) made the decision to cut the original ending. If you listen to the song from the CD, or the live performance, you'll get the full, awesome ending. When you THINK it's over, listen for a few more seconds....for the final words.
