All these years later, I can still see and hear it in my mind. You guys, no matter how many videos you watch, it just doesn't capture how beautiful and amazing these guys were in concert and how hypnotizing it all was. Geoff Tate - there is no comparison. Technically it's called "Progressive Metal", Also I seen these guys preform in Dayton, Ohio at the Hara arena with Metallica And Justice for All concert, in 1989, and it was one of the best and memorable concerts that I have ever seen performed by "Geoff Tate's Queensryche", and it was the best Operation Mindcrime concert that I've seen ever performed by the Band. Geoff Tate was in his Prime at the time as great singer, and he fricking blew the roof off the arena because of his powerful vocals.

I'm in my 50's n it is so cool seeing younger guys discover gems from the 80s-90s. I was a huge fan of QR in high school, Desert Storm (a friend sent me a copy of "Empire" there), and early 90s. When I was stationed in Tucson, a friend knew a dj n got us backstage passes to meet them when they were selling out 20K arenas. They were so gracious backstage. This was on "Promised Land" tour and my wife n I sat at a table on stage for one of the songs they were recreating a 60s jazz club vibe. We were so close to the band I could hear them acoustically strumming strings. Unforgettable n I have the gtr picks n autographed copy of the CD. Operation Mindcrime is an exceptional concept album n the 3 vids they released for the album will make more sense if you listen to the whole album. Like many bands, they had personal issues. Chris DeGarmo (guitar/writer), Geoff Tate (singer) n recently Scott Rockenfield (drummer) are not part of the band. Current lineup makes cool tunes but not what they made up to "Promised Land". ****so listen to Operation Mind Crime or watch Live Crime". Its a masterpiece up there with Pink Floyd's the wall.

The Queensryche song that Nick probably knows (but doesn't realize it) is "Silent Lucidity" from their NEXT album _Empire_ in 1990. That album has some bangers as well. Speaking of Pink Floyd, they WERE a big influence on The Ryche, on this song and especially "Silent Lucidity." You should definitely react to "The Queen Of The Reich" from their 1983 self-titled EP, "Warning" from their 1984 album of the same name, "I Dream In Infrared" and "Gonna Get Close To You" from 1986's _Rage For Order._ Also the entire _Operation Mindcrime_ album, and "Silent Lucidity," "Empire," "Jet City Woman," "Another Rainy Night (Without You)" and "Last Time In Paris," ALL from 1990's _Empire._

You guys might know this already, but just in case you do not. This song is the last song on the Operation: Mindcrime album, , which is a concept album (so the lyrics might seem out of place without knowledge of the complete story). I consider this to be one of the best concept albums of the 80's and the story is still relevant to our world today. When you get a chance, the three of you should give the whole album a listen (on your own time if you want), just make sure to have the lyrics close by and sit back and enjoy.
@purplekat5864

YES, I concur! Best concept album ever! But there will be a lot for you guys to talk about, story-wise. Give it several listens, it gets better and better. Not everything is spelled out, but there are plenty of clues lyrically, and the music is awesome! One of the things QR is very good at doing is writing the music to fit, and support, the lyrical content. There's an especially cool thing they did (whether purposely or just intuitively) with the music for " THE MISSION"(same album). I think a discussion on your show after hearing the album would be cool, with clips perhaps. NOTE:. The ending was truncated for this video, it's actually longer and more awesome. I'd recommend the live performance for the most intense ending. However, on the album version there is a small silence at the end followed by three final words from Nikki, the main character. Really good. it brings the album and story full circle...which you'll understand when you hear the whole thing. 😜 Yes, drums should be louder!! Always! (Drums are my fav instrument). You really picked up on something I noticed with QR. They don't do a lot of showing off. They play what the song NEEDS. They do capture pain and angst in the music, when that's called for (like in The Mission from same album). That's one of the many things I love about them. They are a cohesive unit, telling a story with music and lyrics. And not just individual players doing their thing. They are known for their twin guitar parts, which I love. There's a killer guitar solo by Michael in "Speak" ( from same album) you might enjoy too! I was not aware of QR at ALL until I saw their video for "Anybody Listening?" (on MTV) from their FOURTH release, Empire!! Never heard of them before that! This was 1990-ish. So, I don't think they got much mainstream airplay at all back then. Such a shame! They don't fit the mold in many ways. I love that! I've been checking you guys daily since you did Take Hold of the Flame. SO satisfying to see you guys do this one! I love your comments about the music, lyrics, vocals, etc! Thanks so much! Looking forward to more!

They were mainstream with the "Empire" album in the 90's. The ballad "Silent Lucidity" was a hit back then.

It was huge, and it wasn't even the best power ballad on that album. 😉

there most popular and commercial success was Empire , but ive been a fan for years, seen them various times, saw opertion mindcrime 2 , they are beasts live and studio, but no one can say theyve ever seen a bad Queensryche concert ever. that being said, you guys really have to see Operation:Livecrime. its epic. nonstop rocking for more than an hour w/o a break. Geoff Tate is a rare talent that comes around once in a lifetime. Trust me on the Operation Livecrime, saw it in person Mind fkn blowing.

I had the privilege to see mindcrime 2 in California. One of two live performances where Dr. X Was voiced by Ronnie James Dio himself. Took stage and duetted with Geoff,on the track The chase . Omfg. I miss Ronnie, and the original queensryche line up. Sooooo many eargasmic experiences ago. R.I.P. Ronnie. You're missed. And remembered.
