@@billwren5033 There's been some confusion. This live video footage of the song was also used in a music video. The album version was dubbed on top of it. I've been listening Queensrÿche since the mid-1980s and have been reading about them all these years. I continuously looked for more info about the band from the Internet when I bought my first PC computer at the end of the 1990s. I still don't know about any overdubbing used here. It's only used for that video version of the song. I've also heard a lot of bootlegs and even seen many bootleg videos. Geoff Tate sang just as good as this live many times. I know that there are some live releases by a few bands that have some corrections made in post production but it's not something we should really care about. It gets easily exaggerated. Anyway, here's the video version (with a very bad sound quality) and the live video footage starts at 1:09: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4bVn3aCjNagsKM

@@Vimana and to back you up on this, the audio track of the Tokoyo performance was recorded over two nights, iirc. No vocals were overdubbed. This is something they also did with Operation: Livecrime where they recorded two nights on the tour in Wisconsin during the Building Empires tour in 1990-1991. As with the Tokoyo performance there were no vocal overdubs just a few guitar pieces were fixed in the studio...I seem to recall there was a sound issue with one of the guitars one night and the next night there was a missed note or two that they didn't want to release to fans so they fixed it in post production. Geoff Tate mentioned during an interview that he goofed a lyric one night but they had audio from the second night, that's why they record at least two in a row, like an insurance policy. Queensryche's members have always been perfectionists when it comes to their performances but especially so when they are recording for a video release to fans so they made very few errors as a result. Edit to add the interview: "Here's Geoff on the recording subplot of Operation: LIVEcrime. "I know there were three shows recorded, and one of the shows was a complete write-off because we had some major equipment problems. So all of the Operation: LIVEcrime record was recorded from two shows. It's just really, what you hear is what you hear. Those are the exact recordings and we didn't go in and overdub stuff. I like that aspect of it." bravewords.com/features/queensryche-live-alone-and-loud This is what QR was known for even back in the day.
@Vimana4 жыл бұрын
@@billwren5033 Ok then. I guess I believe you and Geoff Tate was being very honest. I still don't believe everything I hear and read so I always question everything. Especially in the genres of rock, hard rock and metal we want the musicians and the singers to be brutally honest in what they do. Sometimes we are overly critical even if we don't have any reason to. Who are we to criticize and even blame other people so easily? I don't think there is any good reason to bring people down. Queensrÿche has definitely been an honest hard working band. I've now read about what have been said about the concert by the channel "Queensrÿche Bootlegs" and by "rbrebrook" here. As far as we know the corrected parts still have nothing to do with the high notes that Geoff Tate sang for example. If some things were adjusted later it might have been only on some other songs. Who knows? When people start talking, then some people automatically presume that those high notes were dubbed in the studio. These things always get exaggerated. After a while people start saying that the whole concert was dubbed in the studio. :-) I remember that there's a writing on some newer DVD release by the band Rush by Geddy Lee (the bassist, keyboardist and vocalist). He wrote that he played a bass note wrong and it was replaced with a dub from another concert. I don't think he really needed to write that... but there you go. Sometimes these small corrections have nothing to do with vocals or probably just removing feedback from the microphone. Usually it's something only the producer or the sound engineer knows. The record company always wants to have a perfect product, which they could sell. These bands are usually so honest that they would like to release a concert just as it is. Is Geoff Tate a great singer? I think he definitely was and probably still is. It doesn't really change if we know that he also made some mistakes. This is much too common in these comment sections and discussions in general: Someone likes a person. Then someone else starts to criticize that the person they like also was not perfect and did something that wasn't so good. So what? I think we can like music without always ending up having these discussions. I've seen this exact same thing on other comment sections about other bands and Queensrÿche too. I finally commented about it. I probably won't do that again.

One of the most underrated bands ever! Tate’s 5 octave range put him in a very exclusive class of vocalists. The band as a whole was incredibly talented.

Hi Jamel! My pics are: "Is There Anybody Listening" (official video) From about mid career. Beautifully arranged, lots of harmonies, kick ass song. And from much later in career, "Jet City Woman" Live. Jeff had lost some of his range by then, but I still love this version more than the original. Take care!

Just have to say Chris Degarmo is criminally underrated as a guitarist.
@beachgirl45834 жыл бұрын
I think he gets overlooked because he left the band nearly 20 years ago. If he were still writing songs and touring with Ryche, I think he’d get as much attention as Vai, Gilbert, Lynch, Reb Beach, Satriani, etc.

What an unbelievably amazing band, it’s a shame they never got the recognition they deserved! I thoroughly enjoyed this!👍🏻

@davesteller63014 жыл бұрын
@@xXPyrophorusXx while in the same category of music, Tate's voice is different than Rob Halfords. Both can hit the high notes. But Tate is actually a Baritone. While I believe Halford is a Tenor (I could be wrong) . While I love both, I consider Tate's voice to be richer than Halfords. But to each their own.

If you want terrific lyrics, I would recommend that you listen/react to Queensryche's "Operation: Mindcrime" live version from 1991-1992 known as "Operation: Livecrime". The lyrics from that whole album (released in 1988) are incredible, the story it tells is fantastic, and many of the songs still ring true today. IMO it's one of the best concept albums ever released! Geoff Tate is also one of the most underrated singers ever. He was never recognized for his singing ability like he should have been. At that time, his vocal athletics were up there with Freddy Mercury and other greats.

1:05 This song was out Six months before "Purple Rain". But no surprise if the intro is similar, Prince was very mindful of trending rock/metal as he was aggresively marketing the "Purple Rain" album towards Rock Audiences, using the slogan "Tired of the Same old Rock?" in the 'Purple Rain' magazine ads. No doubt Prince thought it would be a good idea to emulate this song's intro for the intro of the song 'Purple Rain'. [Prince often emulated rock bands. He got his 1983 'purple clothes' idea and the 'flowers/flower petals scattered white background (see edges of 1984s Purple Rain album cover)' from Paul Stanley of KISS (who's signature colour was purple as of 1978, and did photoshoots with flower petals scattered on white backgrounds). Imitation is the highest form of flattery!]

This is earlier Geoff Tate and Queensryche - when he had his full range. You have to do something from Operation: Mindcrime; it’s their next album after this, a concept album, and it is 31 flavors of brilliant. The only sad part is that Geoff started losing the stratospheric octaves; by the time Empire came out in the early 90s, the top end was gone, but the overall chops were still brilliant.

Tate finally admitted in an interview a few years ago that he was classically trained. I knew it the first time I saw them live. The venue was new and having trouble with the sound system. He didn't needa mike. His movement on stage was identical to my brother-in-law the opera singer.

If you loved *this* song and Geoff Tate's astonishing voice, you will definitely want to give the band Fates Warning a listen. The very first time I heard their hit "Eye to Eye", with the astonishing Ray Alder on lead vocals, I was convinced Queensryche had released a new album. Turns out, it was their musical brethren, Fates Warning. Check out the videos for the studio version of "Eye to Eye", which is something of a power ballad, as well as the video for "Point of View", a much more aggressively uptempo, harder rocking song, both from the great 1991 hit album Parallels. If you liked Geoff Tate's voice on *THIS* song? Prepare to have your mind completely blown by Ray Alder's amazing voice, and his equally astonishing vocal range. In fact, there are those that feel that Fates Warning, Queensryche, and Dream Theater, were the founding triumvirate of the Progressive Metal musical genre. From Wikipedia's entry about Fates Warning: "A pioneer of the progressive metal movement, Fates Warning is often credited as one of the so-called "Big Three" of the genre, along with Queensrÿche and Dream Theater; namely, the bands who are most responsible for progressive metal's creation, development and popularization. Their early work, influenced by the new wave of British heavy metal, is also important in the development of American power metal. Fates Warning rose to international fame in the 1980s and has experienced numerous lineup changes. From 1982 to 1996, and temporarily in 2010, Matheos and DiBiase were the only remaining original members of the band, with the former being the only constant member. Their current lineup consists of guitarist Jim Matheos, vocalist Ray Alder, bassist Joey Vera, and drummer Bobby Jarzombek." (Guitarist Jim Matheos is also the band's primary songwriter.)
