Touched up in the studio. I'm not saying its KISS Alive! level of touch ups (i.e. only thing live were the drums..everything else re-recorded in studio) but without question the vocals were touched up/re-recorded in the studio. Not a knock against Geoff...im a fan of original queensryche without question but yeah, touched up.

I agree...hands down the very best in that little "different" niche that they carved for themselves. I just wish Tate hadn't gotten "Axl" disease and let his ego go crazy. It's a big part of why things went to crap for em.
@valdyrgramr
@valdyrgramr 5 жыл бұрын
@@drew65sep Honestly, around, maybe a lil after, Empire Tate started forcing the vocals past his limits then blew them. He didn't have the widest range, Rose did at the time. But, Mike Patton apparently, with whistle register, beats them both.

@@MrClassicmetal Tate's range through his career was F#1-G#5 aka a lil over 4 octaves. For Axl it was F1-Bb6 that's over 5 octaves. While I'm not a fan of Rose, he did in fact have a wider range. However, Patton using whistle register smokes them both in terms or range. Range wanking doesn't make a singer good or better than the other, though. therangeplace.com/thread/234/axl-rose-william-bruce-bailey therangeplace.com/thread/314/geoff-tate therangeplace.com/thread/1578/mike-patton

Definitely, Tate is incredible. I learned about Queensrÿche after listening to amazing Roy Khan from Conception/Kamelot, so I can't avoid comparing them, though their styles are totally different (well, Khan's style in Conception seems closer to Tate's, than Khan's style in Kamelot). Everything you said about Tate I can say about Roy Khan as well: ridiculous range, talent to make you tremble in awe and being totally perfect on stage.

I bought my 1st Queensryche album in early 1991, after also buying my 1st truly high quality home stereo receiver and CD player, both made by Yamaha(everything that company touches turns to gold)! I'd already spent $850(in 1991 dollars) on just those 2 components, so I had to settle for inexpensive 2-way speakers. But the quality of those components compensated for the $150 speakers. After buying the CD player, I needed CD's, and I wanted my choices to be well-produced, high quality recordings that would bring out the MOST of my new system. So I bought Rush's newest "Chronicles"(double album, "best of"), Depeche Mode's new "Violator" album, and Queensryche's newest album, "Empire". All 3 of those CD's were/are VERY WELL mixed and produced, with absolutely TOP notch sound, rivaling even today's newest albums. I was absolutely blown away at how good that system sounded in my apartment living room, despite not having the "ideal" 3-way speakers.

I could write a book about the band but I'll try to keep it short... :-) I'll just say they're one of the most talented songwriters at least in this genre of music. Geoff Tate's singing and Chris DeGarmo's backing vocals worked really well together. Geoff also had the ability to show lots of emotion through his voice. My favourite album by them is Rage For Order from 1986. It's such an unique album with creative little songs like "Neue Regel" and "Screaming In Digital". The last song "I Will Remember" is also one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever written. Most people praise "Operation: Mindcrime" from 1988 as their best. It's an exceptional concept album with lyrics that are even more relevant these days. The songs "The Mission" and "Suite Sister Mary" is where the album really starts to show its melodic brilliance. The songs before that aren't as melodic but always brilliant at least lyrically. And finally just a few words about the album "Empire" from 1990. It's one of the most well produced albums ever made. It sounds very good but many of the songs are more mainstream. They had their biggest hit in "Silent Lucidity", which is a beautiful song melodically and lyrically. The one song from this album that I really recommend for you and all of your viewers is the full studio version of "Anybody Listening?". Just listen to the lyrics as well or read them from somewhere. The song has an official music video but it's an edited version. All the main lyrics of the song are still there in the video version though... Well, this was quite a long text but I hope it was useful for you if you want to hear some more music from Queensrÿche.

The absolute best voice in 80s - 90s metal or actually any genre hands down. I remember magazines and polls comparing him to the likes of Halford and Dickenson, but in reality there was something about Geoff's tonality that gave him a unique gift second to none. It went beyond just hitting the right notes. As age has its affect on everyone, Geoff's voice changed overtime and he spent sometime restructuring the style of his music to accompany those changes. However after sometime out of the spotlight he has recently regained some of that ability and although is no longer the lead singer in Queensryche he is showcasing his voice once again in multiple other projects. Rock On Geoff!

I NEVER get tired of this concert, the whole band yet alone Geoff puts out a flawless gem of a concert ! When I first heard Queen Of The Reich when it came out, I was immediately sold. Up until Empire everything they put out was spot on. After that, not. But that ca 1983-1991 era is one of the best ever by any band. Thank you Beth, you really loved his performance, as we all do !!!

I wish you had grown up in the States back in the ‘80’s with me. You could have put into words what I felt every time I listened to Queensryche preform(6 times live, met once). I loved watching you listening to him sing, because your face reflected my feelings when I hear that one and only voice. Thank you for making this and saying what I didn’t know how to say 40 years ago!! You are an angel, and I’m not just saying that because we American guys totally love the way you British girls look and sound. Geoff Tate didn’t get the recognition he deserved back then, but for me personally, you just validated everything I said about him so many years ago. God bless you, Love and Thanks again!!😘y🌹

This is one of the most under-rated, musically awesome, rock songs of all time. There's not a vocal, drum, or string part that is anything less than stellar. While Geoff's vocals are outside of this planet, the percussion and guitar work could stand on their own without vocals. I'd put this up there with Stairway, Dream On, More Than a Feeling, etc. as iconic rock.
