I cant say anything with certainty, but I might be able to help in the housing department. One of my friends (western suburbs) might be able to give you a place for a short time, ik she was planning on housing a friend who came out to a very conservative household, meaning her family probably has a free room (assuming that situation is over, as I heard nothing about it afterwards). now that would probably only be a temporary measure, and even if she cant directly help she is pretty involved in a few LBTQIA+ spaces so she might be able to help find a more permanent solution. Do you have any other ways of reaching out? I could pass on contact to my friend and hope that something comes from it Warning tho, housing is fucking nightmarishly expensive Also to my understanding US citizens have to pay taxes even internationally until they lose their citizenship, so if Im correct itd probably be smart to lose that pretty quick. also melbourne is pretty accepting from my experience as a trans woman

I'm in some other housing groups and have posted this on the transaustralia subreddit so I'm already in talks with some people who might be able to room with me :) Appreciate the algorithm boost! Super random I've been recommended this video. I've got pretty different views on Trump's presidency to you, and I really don't think there will be a humanitarian crisis in the US once he gets into office, but you do you. moving to a place that will be more comfortable is totally valid, I really don't love the US all that much, and Melbourne sounds like fun! Hi. I unfortunately can't help at all with accommodation, but I know that Adelaide and parts of Sydney (specifically the Newtown area. Definitely not western Sydney) are accepting of LGBTQ++ folks similar to Melbourne. I don't know about their games industries, but perhaps they could give you more options if Melbourne isn't working out 😊

@@Sableknight Unfortunately you'll have to file taxes for your entire life if you're a US citizen regardless of whether you're a resident in the US. I'm not sure if you'll be expected to pay any taxes on foreign income, but you'll most definitely need to file. It's unfortunate... Anyway, I didn't expect a response when I wrote the comment so this is a pleasant surprise haha. Hope you're doing well :D

what I hear australia is not doing so hot economically, and rent is way high too. Good place for game devs culture, but otherwise not sure about this

I've been seeing this kind of information, that the economy is struggling and the housing crisis is bad. I am already finding some folks interested in housing together, though, and it looks like even minimum wages are sufficient to afford rent in a lot of those places. Economically it doesn't seem *that* different to trying to live in Washington state, where I currently live, and I think the healthcare concern is worth getting ahead of this and making a move sooner than later.
