I also watched Queer yesterday. I decided to watch it thanks to your list of Oscar predictions, and I'm glad I did. Daniel Craig's performance was captivating. Too bad that Luca wasn't there

Hadn't heard anything about this film but then l am pretty much out of the current loop of the latest productions. Love, love .... LOVE Luca's films. That said, the mystic halkucination reference immediately made me think of ALTERED STATES & THE EMERALD FOREST. That it is based on William S. Burroughs novel, brought up David Croenenberg's NAKED LUNCH with Peter Weller & Julian Sands. Dusty Mexican bars & cantinas references OUT OF THE PAST. Just where my mind made connections

I agree with you completely Ryan! Craig gives a career-best performance and I hope he doesn’t get overlooked.

Love hearing people not familiar with Burroughs go "Then he's hell bent on getting Ayhuasca for its psychic properties...?"... Burroughs used to use a turn table rigged up with lights and perforated paper called the dream machine to meditate, he spent most of his adult life on opiates and used to cut his manuscripts to pieces and re-edit them in an abstract transposition of what visual artists call collage... Yeah, telepathy and ayhuasca leads me to believe this is a VERY faithful reading of Burroughs' work.

Burroughs was obsessed with ‘short circuiting control’, as he put it. He saw drugs like ayahuasca as a tool, along with the cut-up writing technique and dream machine etc… He was a fascinating character and wonderfully bonkers. I haven’t seen the film yet but from what you describe it sounds pretty close to the book. I’m looking forward to seeing it. Thanks for a great review.

I am looking forward to it, i think academy will definitely recognise queer instead of challengers its just so obvious n I haven't even seen the movie. I hope they will do a proper lgbt representation! PS nice t-shirt btw)

I mostly agree with your review. I think it's a challenging but rewarding movie, especially if you are open minded and see it a second time. I thought the Eugene character was so well played as I can relate to the experience of a young sexually confused guy sending out mixed message. The whole film felt original and sensual at the same time.

Oscar for Craig ❤

I was a little disappointed, frankly. I had much the same reaction you did, but with about ten percent less enthusiasm. Maybe Daniel Craig will get recognition, but Andrew Scott didn’t last year, and in my view that was a better film.

mmm I really really liked Challengers. I hope that movie isn't forgotten by December. Daniel Craig playing gay? James Bond as a convincing gay man? Daniel Craig isn't that good of an actor. i don't buy it for some reason. I don't think I will watch this movie in the theaters

Uta Hagen wrote a book titled "Respect for Acting." Perhaps she should have called it "Respect for Actors." How about seeing the film before passing judgment on it? Just a suggestion... 🙂

@@treesny Craig is an average actor. I'm not judging him being straight playing gay. Lots of straight actors have played gay very well. Craig doesn't have IT

Daniel Craig played a homosexual character in Love is the Devil in 1998.
@monicamerle14172 ай бұрын
@@DK-yq5nx 1- the first movie i remember Craig in it was Munich (2005), he was not famous before that. 2- The role you're refering to was many years before he was cast as James Bond. I like what he's doing with the Knives Out movies because it's a comedic role, but let's face it, most of his dramatic roles are very macho, not only as Bond, but The girl with the dragon tattoo for example. I just don't think he can 100% convince me in this movie Queer. The critics have been mixed but not because of the gay factor but based on the movie being bonkers weird. I will eventually watch on streaming, I said I would skip it in theaters.
