Joseph is giving us the gun show for this wartime movie

Something that nobody has mentioned is that I think the first scene showing the bombing and firemen (with a runaway hose ) was actually foreshadow - the bombing of George's house. What follows was a flashback. The clue for this is the little church, which is clearly shown with bomb damage, but is intact for the rest of the film.

Yes I do do think George drowned, his mum and grandpa both died when their house was bombed and the end scene is them being reunited in the afterlife. Him waking up in the random lady's house could be purgatory.

@@missthea5259Good take. But won’t the grand father be with them also if they were all dead? Also may not need to have him continue running after the meet with the lady leaving to get him breakfast.

@@bamuda00 Perhaps the mother/son bond meant her soul could not rest until he was back in her arms, as she had spent her last day on earth looking for him. The way the underwater scene was filmed just looked like the end to me. Also, the dream sequence where he saw Ife and his train carriage friend alive again could be foreshadowing. I don't understand your last sentence. Could you explain?

I saw this at Chicago Film festival last week. I really liked it also. Joseph is buff AF. Also it was watching your reviews and mentioning film festivals that got me to go all in with Chicago International Film Festival. Thank you. I saw Vermiglio and others that you had mentioned!

"She's a procurer!" - Nick with another "Suddenly Last Summer" reference. LOL

I feel like he drowned in the underground and was being reunited with his mum in heaven at the end. She was probably also in the house when it was bombed.

I liked it too. I didn’t think I would because it’s been getting some negative reviews on KZbin from racists calling it “woke”.

It is utter shite,completely unbelievable bilge.

The kid looks curiously like Taraji Henson.

I would watch this. A different angle from the usual war time genre? From your review seems more "family orientated" especially the kid having a white mom but being colour blind to another's ethnicity☺

UK hon! Thanks for the review, you've been really busy these last few days!! Of note, McQueen is brilliant at bringing unspoken histories to the fore. So the conversation you both had about George not truly understanding his heritage is (I imagine) actually essential to the plot. Meanwhile, great shout about the wonderful Kathy Burke. If you ever get a chance, see if you can find Gimme Gimme Gimme on streaming. It's a 30 min sitcom she starred in (I want to say late 90s) xxx

Do you guys think Saoirse Ronan has a better chance of being nominated during awards season for this movie over "The Outrun"?

There's a difference between "blitzkrieg" and the London Blitz.
@missthea52592 ай бұрын
The Blitz was named after it though.
@reglavcor3 ай бұрын
The London "Blitz" is not the same thing as the word Blitzkrieg. The London Blitz, was the bombing of London during WWII, by German planes. Blitzkrieg is the German term for lighting or fast war.
