I noticed that in most of the movie (except the bar scene) the movie was CGI. Which meant most actors had to act against a green screen and/ or alone. You can also tell a lot of actors had trouble with this... Rosario Dawson & Michael Madsen comes to mind. There were a few that held their own like Bruce Willis, Clive Owen, and Rutger Hauer, but Mickey Rourke just felt completely comfortable and you could see it in the performance. He knocked it out of the park. The problem was now they didn't know how to extend his role properly in Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For, so they just put him as a cameo.

@@danburnett2492I don’t think it’s The Spirit although that at first certainly seems like a very logical guess. The only thing that makes me think it’s not that though is the fact that The Spirit was directed by Frank Miller…who obviously wrote the comic Sin City and then worked with Robert Rodriguez extensively throughout Sin City’s production to the point where Rodriguez ended up quitting the Director’s Guild cause they wouldn’t allow him to give Miller a co-directing credit. I just can’t see Miller being so much a part of making Sin City and then turning around and essentially forgetting it exists or at least it slipping his mind how amazingly it portrayed comic books onscreen…even though he was a huge part of making all that happen.

@Marc Dumont I've a strong feeling of ambivalence on that point... On one hand I'm inclined to agree that omitting the giant squid monsters felt much more grounded, but on the other... It kind of undermined the core premise of Ozymandias' master plan, no? His conviction that humanity could only unite if faced with a terrifying, unrecognizable common enemy - one with unknowable origins, capabilities, and intentions - was the sole purpose behind the convoluted machinations... And while I'm not sure if I agree, it's certainly even harder to believe that the threat of one sad blue boi would keep nations off each others' throats for long. John's too much of a known entity, shit just knowing to be on the lookout for a blue man flying through outer space changes the dynamic entirely. Added to that, it almost seems like Ozzy could've safely skipped all the subterfuge and just talked John into it. The blue fella was already pretty dissociated from the sanctity of human life - only took 5 minutes to convince him at the end, granted he was backed into a corner but seemed to fully embrace the premise. What if Veidt had put together a PowerPoint presentation and talked for, like... An hour? All he really needed in the movie version was John's cooperation and some bombs, no logistics of bio-engineering and teleporting massive self-destructive eldritch horrors. Well... That turned into more of a rant than I intended. But I guess to sum it up, the comic ending was definitely ridiculous, but the movie not having a ridiculous ending almost made everything _before_ the end ridiculous. I don't know which way's better; it's kinda a catch-22.
@sliptrick67112 жыл бұрын

This is blood for blood and by the gallons. These are the old days man, the bad days, the all-or-nothing days. They're back!

Tarantino is a genius. Wish he made more movies. Every time we he shares something it is 100% unique and 100% gold.

He has a podcast called the video archives podcast where they talk about movies for about 2 hours every other week and I believe had long said only wants ten movies on his resume

I thought so too, in the very least with reference to Dr. Manhattan, and the fact that Snyder did also take a page-accurate approach to the framing of his shots

What makes sin city so great is the fact that's it's not an adaptation but rather a translation of the source material.

I was a Mickey Rourke fan for the most unlikely reason. “The last outlaw” he’s good in anything. So when I saw the Sin City poster at comic con. I was really excited. I knew what we were in for. A treat

That performance was Oscar worthy And Sin City was a masterpiece and film making.

The Marv portion of Sin City absolutely made that movie as great as it is. No question. Rourke SLAUGHTERED that performance

You can’t just say “no, that’s exactly what it is” when it’s obviously not the vision in that persons head. 🤷♂️🤨

Depends on the type of movie. Sin City is made in a way you can go minimalistic and hide a bunch of stuff in stylized inky darkness.

It's funny how Quentin looks much younger now. This is the beauty of having a family. :) Greetings from Germany

I love Quentin Tarantino but if he's talking Dr. Manhattan then, no, it hadn't been done before due to the reason he cites. Mickey Rourke on set in make-up. However, QT is being a good friend, I guess. Robert Rodriguez isn't my cup of tea. He's only good when doing a pastiche of another filmmaker. Battle Angel is RR's best film because he did it as if James Cameron were directing. From Dusk til Dawn is a QT movie until it goes to shite as a vamp movie. The Desperado Trilogy ages like a televangelist' wife.

I remember watching Mickey Rourke in the B&W film Rumblefish directed by Francis Ford Coppola. It was considered too avant-garde but was way ahead of its time. Rourke stood out as Motorcycle Boy.
