Seems very interesting. They can probably even add so to the mix so that way the recorded vr can somehow react when someone ask a question.

Hi Eric, Check out Microsofts Holoportation Demo from a few years ago. It's quite similar. Focus is more on recorded memories like in Minority Report. Pretty cool! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZWYaoJsmMuUg5I

I think that when we have high res color passthrough, a dvr of just the video feed would be amazing. Being able to save the last 30 seconds to a minute of what you're looking at is an early glimpse of the future for AR/MR

I wrote up something similar, back when VR was just desktop secondlife type experiences (no HMDs). The use case was to hold asynchronous meetings across timezones, where the secondlife type 3d meeting could be recorded and played back with successive interactions again then recorded. Artifacts from the meetings (like files, action items, status reports) could be exchanged in meeting preserving context. This would increase collaboration efficiency across timezones. Unfortunately my company never released the paper, nor never developed it. Glad to see someone else coming out with this now!

It is time travel because time and space are interlinked if you make a virtual space you have virtual time within that virtual space and when you skip back you are going back in time virtual time

This is essentially "replay files" like for video games, but with cameras around the room and basic 3D mesh algorithms. The thing that is terrifying (and why I don't think this will really take off), is the idea of controlling what is rendered to you to better serve your current purpose. I know it's not all evil company worker stuff, but it's a bit odd, given that those things DID happen to you. You were there. Just because you weren't paying attention, does not mean they did not happen. Helpful to see it happen later? Maybe? But it really takes away from what I imagine is one of the only things humans are better at than machines currently; adaptation. Limiting external input and reaction truly blends the line between human mind and biological computer lol

We get so caught up in games on VR that we forget how impactful presence is. It’s good to be reminded of the possibilities of VR and AR going forward.

A new technology has to be proved as more useful than the old tech. In this case : The co-worker would send an email letting him know that the new part is ready for check so when he has time he can have a look. He won't get the email as long as he is in focus mode. Then when he finished he would stretch a bit and have a short walk (as it also helps productivity) to have a look at the new part . But it is an interesting concept. Thank you for the content. Your channel always brings something fresh and interesting to watch.

reminds me of the "Focus" tech used in the Horizon games. The problem with volumetric data is that it's sooooo much more intensive than flat videos I played around with kinect motion capture a few years ago and a minute of that footage was 3GB. I'd guess that extracting the motion data and applying it to the workers avatars would be less intensive that these recordings.

Thank you.

There is one big problem with this not being the same as being at a lecture or something like that, you still can't interact with anything if your not there live (like, you can't ask questions or stuff like that).

My god. We're going into a black mirror episode faster than I thought. If I could see my best friend again who passed away, and in VR? VR might be more revolutionary than the photograph in history.

On one hand this is super cool on the other this is very dystopian. It's basically just another tool to avoid interaction with other people. It's like a physical answer machine.

This is really cool tech and like you said very useful, but it does continue to take away the human social element from our interactions as a species. We're already so detatched from real interaction because of messaging, social media and the internet as a whole, and this only further pushes that. Definitely mixed feelings on it, although it does feel like the future It's probably been said before but I really like these breakdown style videos by the way
@jonbarto91462 жыл бұрын
Human interactions on a Martian base during some kind of disease outbreak 6 months from earth doesn’t sound like such a good thing. Being present or seeing a playback of fellow colonists in AR/VR is not only possible, but preferable.

The same could be accomplished with a pair of sound canceling headphones and a sticky note. This is technology we don’t need. A solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.
@tinkerduck13732 жыл бұрын
You'll never know which technology we will need or not. There are a lot of discoveries and inventions in the past, where nobody had use for it (e.g. Lasers; the math we need today for medical imaging tech etc). We need to be open for new ideas. Time will tell what will be useful and what won't.

Kinda less impressive than time dilation the experience of more time in a smaller time frame but I get that sort of thing won't happen till full dive is a thing. Though I imagine the disconnect might become an issue when you're mentally experience weeks, months, even years at a time when in reality you were only "gone" for say 8 hours. It'd certainly be an interesting area of study, heck imagine it's usefulness in training the training of years compressed into a single day.

Why would you make a work environment this convoluted? This has to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen in my life. I swear, things get done faster with paper then they do with computers at this point. Imagine all of the McDonald's cashiers wearing this thing, and then dealing with the convolution. You'd never get out of line, since they build those to trap you in there.
