Hi Grant. Will be really interested to see what you come up with. Those wooden carvings would be quite the challenge but definitely worth it.

HMS Victory was rebuilt from a Baroque stern to the ugly, simplifies stern that it has today. I believe the Baroque stern, having tow full balconies and carvings which act as pillars at the outermost corners of the balconies is the most accurate version for the Santisima Trinidad as it was originally built, and as it is shown in the Madrid museum. That style of stern was typical of the period. Later stern designs for all European countries and England got simpler, probably as a way to save on costs, but they do not look as good to me as the Baroque styles. Of course kit makers are going to go with the simplified stern. Great work on your model so far, G Kip! See you on SoS.

Unfortunately, all OcCre kits are often very simple, lacking in detail or simplistic in design. On the other hand, the kits offer more varied wood. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to make any major changes to the kits as I don't have the workshop to do so. If you are able to make a faithful adaptation of your kit, then go ahead. I will follow your decision with interest.

Hi Wolfgang, I wouldn't say they lack in detail, just look at all the deck fittings you have just completed, (beautifully I might add) the details have to be constructed, they are not done for you, I'm going to attempt the changes, and see how they come out, if all else fails i can always use the original parts lol

The model of the Maritime Museum of Madrid built in april 1767 by order of Matthew Mullan before he sails to Cuba is not the Santísima but his project of a 112-gun ship. It was named Real Carlos in honour of king Carlos III. The Santísima was rebuilt (Great refit) in 1795-96. Her stern was modified, less decorated in accordance with the fashion of that time and certainly very similar to the stern of the kit. Warning. The figurehead is wrong. It was a statue of St Michael not the traditional Spanish lion.

I'd be glad to see something different than that arc across the stern on most models. I think that is just too ugly to have been real.

Hi David, i believe in her later years she may have had a stern similar to the kit, but initially a more ornate version, it is similar to HMS Victory, her stern was lovely prior to the refit before Trafalgar and the stern you see now.
