Good progress mate. It's fun trying to get the entire ship in a shot isn't it? lol Just a suggestion , check that your bowsprit is going to fit. I had to open up the opening a little so it would fit. I made a mistake and following the plans added those deck supports before I realised part of that deck needs to be planked! One day I will learn to look ahead further. Will look forward to your next video.
@g-kip13 күн бұрын
Hi Greg, hope your well, yes definately a job to get the whole model in the shot. Thanks for letting me know about the bowsprit I will check it out, I think with the supports i will only keep them in place until i have added the lower two gunport templates, as i will need access to add the details to the lower gun deck, im hoping the two gunport templates will be strong enough to maintain the shape while i work. Time will tell.

I was looking around in my usual online model shops, seems that at least AMATI has a variety of lanterns. Several different types and scales. But these look perfect. I would use yellow lights since it is to mimic an oil lamp. ( The actual real ship would have electric lights now, probably ) I am curious what the stern will look like now
@g-kip20 күн бұрын
Hi Martin, thanks, I will try out a few colours to try and get the best effect, thanks for looking for solutions to the lantern. With regards the stern, got some plans, but nothing concrete yet.
@johnnyhollis997721 күн бұрын
Yes your lanterns are very similar to my efforts in PE brass! I didn't bother with the glass but I have toned the light and colour down by simply painting an LED. Varying the paint can give a little difference between the lights which would be authentic. Personally I have chosen a more orange effect to simulate a sooty build up on the inside of the lantern! Anyway way to go, your 3D printing will be a lot easier for mass production! Good job! Regards JH ⚓
@g-kip20 күн бұрын
Hi Johnny, thanks, I did try your suggestion, but I think the scale was a bit too small for the job, did you use clear acrylic paints or just diluted paint?, Im going to experiment with some colours.
@johnnyhollis997720 күн бұрын
@@g-kip Hi, yes the PE is very fiddly and a time consuming method! For the lights I used a well tried and tested method from building a Trumpeter Titanic that I am converting into the RMS Olympic for my sins! I found that just by a light coating of ordinary coloured acrylics, various light shades were pretty easy to simulate. I am currently using Vallejo but any good acrylic will do the job. The tiny LED's give out very little heat so the paint stays put easily enough. If the colour is not right for you then it's a simple matter of carefully scraping the paint away and trying again until you reach something that you are happy with. I am using slightly different strengths to get a random lighting effect which would be quite realistic for the 18th Century. It works well and is a method to bear in mind for other lighting projects perhaps. Have some fun with it and with a little patience you will get a good result. Regards JH ⚓

Hi Grant, in my case annealing the brass parts helped to eliminate the spring effect.

Hi Wolfgang, thanks I will give it another try.
@zyphod7427 күн бұрын
try annealing the brass before rolling or bending it. use the flame of a candle or cigarette lighter to heat the brass until it glows red then let cool. also use tweezers to hold the part you are heating. this will soften and reduce springiness of the metal.
