You are so very welcome. This is a wonderful game that succeeds in doing something many others don't: it gives the player a *feeling* of something that it harkens to and that's really something! I'm truly amazed this as flown under the radar for all these years and hope that this video gives it some well-deserved exposure. It's so charming. Definitely one of my best gaming experiences of the year.

This is totally AMAZING and MIND-BLOWING. Such an inspiring and cute retro game. Thank you very much for presenting this game, @Geek Gamers. I never thought that the RPG community's passion for Retro-RPGs would go so deep !! I am currently working on my own re-hashed and re-shaped version of HeroQuest (1989) and whenever I cannot participate in a group game, I actually spend time refining my own HQ hack. This is how I get my RPG fix. Solo Roleplaying is quite a chore ; it is often tedious, and sometimes uninspiring. It also requires one to have a dedicated table somewhere in the house to keep playing - a table that nobody will touch or move.

@AzureTiger S Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I agree about the game so much so that I've got it out on my table again right now. It's simplicity really works to capture the experience the designer intended. I certainly see the appeal of reworking HeroQuest--what a great game system, and one that I've ported into DungeonQuest myself (there are some vids on that channel showing how). Fun times. thanks for watching and commenting.

Time limit reminds me of the "food clock" in Nethack and its kind. Suitably abstracted for board game form. Looks like a fun game, if a tad expensive after customs charges. But never say never.

I just ordered a copy of this last week. It honestly looks like a grail game to me. However I had no idea there were expansions. Would be cool to see how the catacombs work. Or how the risk and rewards expansion works, peta etc.
@GeekGamers01
@GeekGamers01 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. I am sorry I did not show the catacombs, which is an expansion I have. It works a bit differently in that there are no dungeon tiles. You draw cards and need to expend a certain amount of energy to deal with each card. You start out with 10 energy. Each card you flip will have a different amount of energy requirement. You can keep going as long as you like, but if you flip over a card without the energy to pay for it, you will lose everything you have attained in the catacombs. It’s clever because it makes you feel the danger as well as the reward. I have not seen the other expansion but I am a huge fan of pets and I’m sure it adds a lot.

Yeah... the game crafter! I wish for the designer he could get it distributed differently and more affordably. The amount of content gives it a lot of replay value but probably for a gamer like you not enough teeth for the replay. I just blew well over $100 on Thunderstone Quest, for example (and still don’t have all of it) so the price isn’t out of line with the hobby... but it’s a big ask all at once.
@MrJankTv
@MrJankTv 3 жыл бұрын
The price is as low as I can possibly make it. I think I make $.51 on the game and that's only because game crafter won't let me go any lower on the game. There is a ton of content though and if you're into the rogue like video games, and dungeon crawls, I think that this is worth the money.
@TheDungeonDive
@TheDungeonDive 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrJankTv As you can probable tell by my name, I have a channel devoted solely to dungeon crawls and adventure games, so this is really in my wheelhouse. I was shocked by the price because I was expecting it to be cheaper since it's all card based (and I'm always on the lookout for cheaper, good games to share), but I totally understand the whole DIY thing, and that gamecrafter can be expensive. Total respect to you for going this route! Good luck with the game! It looks awesome! If it ever gets distributed at a price point I like, and that you can make some money on, I'll be there day one with a purchase!

good video! i had no idea this game existed until yesterday when i was browsing TGC. the price of it is kind of ridiculous but...i bought it pretty much immediately upon seeing it. it's almost exactly what i want from a game (yanno, aside from it being $120+ with shipping). game packs a crazy amount of stuff in to the box and really seems like a "endlessly replayable" kind of thing.

Thanks for showcasing this--I hadn't heard of it before. As far as house-rules for a co-op version, is there a way for two characters to team up against a monster? They would need to split the xp, I guess. Do you think this would work?
@GeekGamers01
@GeekGamers01 3 жыл бұрын
That is a great question and I talked a little bit with a designer about a little of this which is that items cannot be shared between characters beginning of a level. When I played, characters can share items if they are adjacent. For co-op fighting, the concern would be balance: except at a higher level dungeon floors and with somewhat lower level characters, you might just overwhelm the monster. There could be a way to scale up the monsters Such as rolling 1d4 to see how many of them there were, if it was a party encounter. Maybe that would work. I have posted house rules on the BGG webpage for this game. They concern equipping the characters so they do not become too powerful. I find this adds some balance, especially if you happen to draw dungeon tiles early on that are very favorable in offering treasures and artifacts.
@dunbruhajones6490
@dunbruhajones6490 3 жыл бұрын
@@GeekGamers01 Maybe spawn as many (identical) monsters as there are characters in the tile. Characters can choose which one to attack, while the monsters attack a random character. xp would be split, with no character more than one level higher than the lowest in the party.
@GeekGamers01
@GeekGamers01 3 жыл бұрын
@@dunbruhajones6490 That would work mechanically but I'm not sure why you would do that. If you are playing with multiple heroes and multiple people, it's just more interesting if each hero has their unique monster to fight. If you are managing more than one hero and playing solo, it's still more interesting to draw different cards. None of this gameplay is coop, however, but I'm not sure how your suggestion would make it any more coop, and indeed that would just take the variety out of the game. One of the many things that's great about this game is the variety of cards. Why limit that by making identical monsters?

As I mentioned in another comment, I just got Thunderstone Quest and a few (not even all) expansions and it was well over $100... unfortunately that seems to be where we've landed in this hobby on many games, especially from indie designers. I'm not here to convince anyone to spend money, especially when I got a review copy of the game, but IMO if you think the game is one you will enjoy, the replay aspect of it (with over 900 cards) is high. Running a sole character, you'd be playing this game for upwards of 50 hours and probably more before seeing the same monster or treasure again (if you kept the cards you saw out of the mix for the next set up).
