Tank Overhaul invites you into a world where military enthusiasts, collectors, and restorers combine their know-how with 21st Century technology to restore the greatest battle tanks of all time. From the original salvage, to the rebuilding process, to the history behind the innovations that made each machine great, watch as tanks worldwide are rebuilt to their former glory.
The Centurion - Fast, smart, and deadly, the British-designed Centurion is one of the greatest tanks of all time. A champion in Korea against the Chinese Red Army, virtually every army in NATO wanted one, and armies in South Africa and Israel are still using it. Even today, Centurion innovations live on modern tanks. Here you will meet two crews working on Centurions. The first crew volunteers at the vast Imperial War Museum Duxford in England. They have all the time, spare parts, and manpower they need. The second crew toils in a small museum in Oshawa, Canada. Relying on volunteer energy and minuscule budgets, they are aiming to get their Centurion finished in ten years.
The BMP - Unveiled in the mid-1960s, the Soviet BMP was the world's very first infantry fighting vehicle - a brand new concept for the modern nuclear battlefield. The BMP was designed to protect soldiers from radioactive fallout, and allow them to fight from within the vehicle. But, the BMP never fought a nuclear war. Instead, it fought conventional wars in the Middle East where it was outclassed by its vastly superior American counterpart, the M2 Bradley. Greg Taylor is one of the world's most experienced tank restoration experts. He has spent years attempting to get a BMP brought into his backyard in the Nevada desert. But, he has got an impossible mission on his hands - rebuild a Cold War vehicle without enough money or time, and with only part-time help from his friends on weekends. The brutal mission pushes Greg to his breaking point.

Great design ! Low profile. I was training at FT Riley training ground in a platoon leadership course and was able to identify a M 60 sitting under a tree about a mile away in wooded vegetation without binoculars! M 60 is so high ! Was able to lead succesful recon at it and report it back to Co. Haaaaahaaaaaa!

I'm sorry but that comander was either lying or doesn't know much about other MBTs because the Challenger 2 isn't the best MBT in the world. The Challneger 2 is one of the slowest modern MBTs, it's armor protection is worst than that of both the M1A2 Abrams and Leopard 2a7. As far as firepower, it still uses piece ammo which has a several disadvantages.
@circlefired758
@circlefired758 5 жыл бұрын
You are very wrong about the armour, its probably the best protected in the world only the Abrams is its equal in terms of protection. But i agree the gun is now in certain areas a disadvantage to the upgrade smoothbore Leopard, its something to do with the ammo we use its different than most of the allied powers, it does hold the longest confirmed kill record.
@kenwheeler6150
@kenwheeler6150 5 жыл бұрын
MississippiRebel. I don't know where your facts come from but I was under the impression that Challenger 2 uses Gen 2 Dorchester armour, the Abrams uses the old Gen 1 Burlington, Both a development of Chobham Armour. As for the gun, Challenger has the rifled barrel which does limit the types of ammo it can use, but it can be useful at longer ranges, and we do like our sabot rounds but keep the HESH rounds for softer vehicles and buildings. As for power, I thought the Challengers diesel engine delivered about the same battle field performance as the Abrams turbine unit. but with better range. I am not trying to prove that Challenger 2 is better than the M1A2 just not as useless as you seem to believe. And we have a BV for a nice cuppa with breakfast.

American-made documentaries always trying to sensationalize the mundane. Hey, they're restoring old tanks. That's interesting enough IMO. No need to try to find some angle to hype. The irritating re-epilogation of the narrative designed for viewers who joined the show after a commercial break is infuriating. And why the re-showing of a computer animation of a centurion in a modern urban environment? Absurd. These restoration projects take years and they want to do a tank restoration "documentary" with several days of on-the-job footage with some poorly selected archival footage and CG animation. What a joke.

Important information. The Centurion was still vulnerable to what the russians had from the front. Especially the IS-2 and 3s which could easily punch through and the 3 could even bounce the shells that the Centurion primarily used. Idk why the documentary says that the Russians were stunned when the British and other Allies were the ones stunned by the IS-3s.
@aaronp573
@aaronp573 5 жыл бұрын
Kommandant Killcode I believe that the term “communists” was used to refer to the communist Chinese that they were fighting in Korea, who really didn’t have any armoured vehicles to speak of, or at least none that could match the centurions on range and firepower. That is the reason I believe they might have been “stunned”.
@kommandantkillcode
@kommandantkillcode 5 жыл бұрын
Aaron Podmore Oh, I understand. It’s just suprising that they were “shocked” when the T-34-85 which the Chinese and Koreans had could penetrate the frontal armor of the Centurion up until the Mk 5. But at that point the T-54 and other mediums were starting to be introduced into Asia.

Always the best of it's time, the best of the world, or one of the best of something.. Ammo in Hull ? Pz.Kpfw VI Tiger does it, like the Pz.Kpfw V Panthers.. Pz.Kpfw VI Ausf. B too.. No revolution here. 40 km/H is not much more speed than a Tiger (?)

But the Centurion could take go toe to toe with a Tiger, a Panther or King Tiger and win.

Tiger has ammo all around hull and turret. Centurion has ammo concentrated in 3 spots to decrease chance of getting hit.

Istilluse Zune didn’t they stop putting ammo in the King Tiger’s turret shortly after its introduction?

Johan G.Bruère-Dawson the Centurion was designed to take a hit from an 88 and survive, the 17pdr could take out all the German tanks. And it was upgraded to take the 20pdr and up. You tiger fan boys are getting boring.
