try it out. the load is applied to both areas at the same time. since they are made of different materials, we cannot just apply the load to each area separately. the strain comes into play here. even if you try to say the steel is (let us say) 20% of the total area and therefore the 20% of the load will transfer to the steel you still get an error. I hope that helped.

Chaitanya, each structural member have a capacity. for beams, the maximum bending capacity can be calculated from the maximum bending stress that can be cause by a bending moment.(sigma = M I / y) then solve for M knowing the maximum stress that can be supported by the member (depending on its material and x-sectional area). As for Axial stress, (sigma =P/A) then solve for P. in both cases you have to consider some factors of safety and those you can get from design procedures. Hope that helped.

an you assist with a square tubing: Calculate the axial compressive strength of a composite column, consisting of a 38 x 38 x 3.0 Square-section of S355JR steel and filled with plain concrete of 25 MPa cube strength. The column is 7 m long and pinned at both ends. Assume there is adequate load transfer.

i guess you cant distribute the forces like that .at ultimate state concrete strain is 0.0035 and steel might well also have yielded of the composite section. hookes law or transformed section is not applicable. equilibrium is the way to go. please clarify

Sir, Thanks a lot for making us understand in simple ways... wen we calculate the stress induced in steel beam , how will we come to know the design is safe or unsafe... pls instruct us considering both bending stress and compressive stress for the same problem....

Hey, I asked you about Influence Line Diagrams in one of your videos? And you said that you would upload those videos soon... I'm really eager to watch them. When are you uploading them? Do inform me when you do it.

hey there nice video...will you please do a tutorial on mechanics of composite column to steel beam connection ...?? Thank you

@skye rover This theory can be applied to RC columns. Yet, go over a chapter in RC textbook to see what people did :)

Excuse me , but i was wondering why cannt you use the formula for stresses P over A (P/A) if you have both the load(1250 KN) and the áreas for steel and concrete(16500mm2 and143500mm2) PLEASE answer . PS:THANKSSSS
