Thanks for doing the Q&A, I really enjoyed hearing some of the stories and examples of cars and struggles that taught you what you know today. I love your "get your hands dirty" advice, I wish more people would just try to do something rather than make 10,000 excuses why they can't do it.

During the time I have been following you, I have received many good tips. I myself am trained in oxy/acety and stick welding. So this with me was "new" I knew the theoretical, but it is different from the practical. And the trips around the island for iron are excellent, I enjoy it.

Hey Tony I like your new show. I like the intro music I keep waiting for it to break into the theme from night Court for some reason that's what it reminds me of I don't know why. I like that picture you sitting on the back of your job with that the end of this video reminds me of my first car it was a 1975 Ford Pinto two-door hatchback. It was my father's and he just got it painted candy apple red shortly before I got it. My brother bored its go to trade school he is a mechanic and it got wrote off on this way home on a slippery follow Road covered with leaves in front of Tim Hortons here in Sarnia Ontario. I missed that little car but I had a whole bunch of pintos after that one of the was my first race car. I feel I have a lot in common with you looking forward to the next chat session lol cheers

I only have a flux-core welder, one with dials now, which I used to build my trailer and a lot of other work. My first MIG was a flux core with those two switches. It wasn't as bad as you thought, as I built all my shed frames with it, using 1.2mm (18 gauge) steel framing. We can only get 030 flux core wire here (and I think 035 is also available, but I've only ever used 030) and 023 is not available here either.

Tony, this video was a great idea. I'm just a poser compared to you but I wanted to tell you how I started out. I'm just a hobbyist and I didn't have much starting out. I started reading books on bodywork and I bought a Bernz'-o- magic torch that used Mapp gas in the early 70's. I actually still have it. I used it to braze panels together. Then I got a set of oxy/acetylene torches and started brazing with that and started teaching myself how to weld/hammerweld sheet metal with that. Then in the 80's I finally got a Mig welder. It was a Power Mate Quick fix 110 v but I did get the gas conversion. However it was the exact welder that you said not to get.🙂 I've actually used it up until recently and I finally got a hopefully pretty nice Mig welder. It's a Hobart handler 210 mvp. Actually I'll be using it for the first time today. Like I said, I'm a poser compared to you but I've learned so much from you and your videos. I thank you. Sorry this was so long. God bless. 😊👍👍👍

I remember you referencing the amount of bump steer when you were working on the Mustang. There are couple of things that are easy to do to minimize the issue. One is to due the Shelby mod to the upper control arms, dropping the mounting points. The other one is to purchase the spindle steering arm/tie rod attachment point. It utilizes a heim joint rather than a ball joint, where you can adjust height of the tie rod. Both items are available from Mustang parts vendors.

ya those parts work great if your still using the factory steering box. I upgraded to a power Caviler rack and pinion. it a full custom setup and there was a lot to figure out.

About fluxcore running hot - 4:38 would that explain why any panel I welded with fluxcore on my car warped extremely no matter what I did? The guys with gas just go zap zap zap and it comes out perfect.. yet my fluxcore welds pulled inward super hard not matter what I did.

There are acids in the flux that will eventually rot your steel bodywork. Flux-core and sheet metal bodywork are not friends. Don't expect long lasting repairs with flux-core MIG. Flux core is meant for welding in windy conditions where a C25 or CO2 shielding gas will get blown away.
@sidney9534
@sidney9534 Жыл бұрын
@@davidparker9676 I fixed an entire car with Flux core (on my profile). How long do you give it?
@davidparker9676
@davidparker9676 Жыл бұрын
@@sidney9534 I don't know. It depends on several factors. If you sealed it with epoxy primer and cavity wax on the backside of the welds, it would be longer than exposed welds on the backside and primer surfacer. It also depends on your local conditions of humidity and road salt etc. I have a car that someone did flux core rust repairs and it is bubbling everywhere he welded. I have to redo all of the metal work on that car. I have since been I-CAR certified and will be doing my own work from now on.

Hey Fitzee, while browsing a map of Conception bay, I was intrigued by the satellite map of Kelly's Island.
